No. No, this wasn’t supposed to be happening. Nobody was supposed to sneak up on Cybele. She was the Senshi of the Hunt, it was her job to sneak around and kill youma when they were least expecting it. And the people from Chaos? She wasn’t sure what she was going to do with them once she hunted them down, but she was going to hunt them down. And jumping out at her like that when she was trying to track him? Just… no. Especially since she was so close to him and didn’t even realize it.

But of course, it did happen. When he hit the ground just a few feet in front of her, she shrieked and jumped back. “What are you doing?” she demanded , still trying to get herself together. This was just wrong. Never mind that she needed a lot more practice! She should be better. And the guy… She glanced at him, noting his dark clothing and Chaos aura. “You’re from the negaverse, aren’t you?” She stepped forward, not sure what she was trying to do. “Don’t sneak up on me like that again!” She found her hands curled into fists but she wasn’t really in a fighters pose, not a good one at least.

Cybele watched the negaverser carefully as he talked, expecting him to do something sneaky again. Her eyes widened when he summoned the shriken. Once again, she didn’t know people could do that, just like she didn’t know about starseeds, or Aurora. It was ridiculous how little she knew, and he was just rubbing it in her face like that. “Yes, yes,” she said, her voice dripping with disgust, “I’d just love to join your lovely little group. Especially because of that great first impression you gave me. Sneaking up on me and almost kicking my face in? How sweet. And threatening me with your… things is great as well.”

She stepped towards him again, her teeth clenched and her fingernails digging into her palms. She dropped the sickly sweetness and raised her voice almost to a shout. “But I can’t because I’ve already made way too many promises about what side I’m on!”

She stopped short as it hit her- he might really attack her. So now was not a good time to have an emotional breakdown. Instead, she charged up to him, closed her eyes and attempted to punch him in the face, saying, “And I can tell you what to do! It’s not my fault if you’re too stupid to listen.” At least if she beat him she wouldn’t be a complete failure as a senshi, right?

Despite the fact that her eyes were closed, Cybele was fairly surprised that her hand hadn’t hit the middle of his face like she wanted. And then she opened her eyes and found herself pulled forward and then shoved to the ground. “Hey!” She kicked a foot back as she fell, hoping to kick him or trip him or something. Fighting was another thing she was proving useless at.

She stood up and turned back to him, her mouth curled into a snarl. “If you want to insult the White Moon Court, at least have a good reason! Earth is my home, not space. I don’t even know what’s up there! And you’re the ones causing all the death and destruction, or at least making the youma do it for you. Mostly.”

She shook her head quickly- this wasn’t the time for uncertainty. “Anyway, the promises I’ve made are none of your business! Just know you’re on the bottom of the waiting list of people I want to fight for.”

Cybele wasn’t in the mood for the ‘why you are wrong’ conversation. She really didn’t have enough proof against either side to have a proper argument, and she didn’t really trust Bazzite after he’d jumped out at her like that.

“Look, I am fighting to protect the earth, or trying to at least. If the White Moon Court is wrong, I’m sure I’ll figure it out eventually.” Her voice was very sharp. This boy was trying her patience, thought it was probably obvious. She didn’t usually try to punch total strangers. “But if they are wrong, I’m not joining you. That’s my second promise. I promised Remarque I’d join the Dark Mirror Court if this doesn’t work out. Because the Negaverse…” She paused for effect, “is evil.”

She wasn’t totally sure about that, but it was better to sound certain. That was something since she wasn’t in the mood to be logical. As she said the final words, she charged him again. She hoped to shove him hard.

Inside, Cybele quickly screamed, rolled her eyes, and made a mental note to never again bring up any stupid promises she’d made, and preferably not to make any more stupid promises. Outside, she sighed and stepped back. After a moment, she found herself smiling at his excitement, but she caught herself right away and turned it into a proper scowl. “Yes, I promised him. Yes, he’s nice… or something. Yes, I’m done talking about this!”

After her outburst, she softened a bit. Except for jumping at her, he hadn’t really done anything mean or violent to her.“You’ve been pretty nice to me, and I’ve just been trying to hurt you. Sorry. Can we stop all this fighting, or would it make you feel better to punch me? You can try, but…” she shrugged, “I’m not just going to let you.”

Her voice still held a hint of a threat but she no longer felt like she had to beat him up to prove herself. When she thought about it, the whole idea sounded cruel and not like something she wanted to do. Instead, she finally let herself smile.

“Umm…” Cybele considered, watched him flap his arms around like he was flying and giggled a little. She still had no idea what those sleeves would really look like, but oh well. She was pretty sure she’d never seen them, and that was the point. “… Rora? Beni? No, I don’t think I’ve met them. She does sound nice, though. And pretty.”

All the people sounded nice, but the others she’d met were nice as well. She frowned as she thought about how everyone was supposed to be fighting each other. Then she quickly tried to change the subject. “Believed in you? Some people don’t?” It was another troubling thought. He could be a serious threat! “You’re good at sneaking around, and fighting.” Maybe complimenting the enemy was frowned upon, but it was instinct to Cybele.

“Remarque… I think he believed in me too. But like I said, we’re done talking about this.” She delivered the line much more cheerfully this time, complete with a small smile. “So what about you? What’s your name? I’m Cybele,” she said, curtsying.

“Bazzi? Ok.” Cybele nodded at him. She frowned at his question and tugged at a minty pigtail nervously before deciding on the easy answer. “No, I’m really new to this. I have absolutely no idea what is going on, as you probably figured out.” She walked around Bazzite so she was facing him again. He didn’t sound super discouraged about not being believed in, but she felt bad.

“Anyway… well, you deserve to be believed in! If you practice a lot, I’m sure you’ll win a fight eventually.” She smiled brightly then stopped and blinked slowly. Now she was giving the enemy advice. Well, just saying to practice was ok, but she didn’t really want him to win a fight. “But… hurting people is bad. People who don’t believe in you just because you don’t hurt people are stupid.” She was back to being a bit harsh, then sighed. “Well, someone got mad at me for not taking things seriously, too. So, I promised to try harder.” Ok, no, she was not going down that thought path again. Complimenting the enemy was much better, but not good in general. Maybe there was something else to change the subject to?

“Umm… Beni doesn’t like the senshi? So is he one of the nice people I should meet or not?”
