A long shadow stretched out before her feet as the young girl walked home from her after school chior practice at Meadowview, pretending she was stepping on it each time she stepped forward. Dark hair, dark eyes, dusky skin... her looks hinted at her arabic ancestry, but it was softened a little, mixed with something else. Her voiced hinted at it too, a hint of a lilting accent sounding as she sang softly to herself.
Orah loved chior practice, loved singing. It always gave her a special feeling to be part of a group like that, all of them putting themselves into what they were doing, all connected and building off the others. Remembering a passage she had stumbled on, she repeated it to herself, slowly working through the tricky part as she rounded the corner and headed down the street to her house.
The street was deserted, quiet... still. Not even the wind blew here, and the houses threw long black shadows over the street, broken only a couple times by shafts of light. Would have been almost creepy, if she hadn't walked this route more times can she could count.

There was not much to do tonight, that much was very clear to the Eternal Senshi of Danger. He was bored, mind breakingly bored. He was so bored he suddenly didn't feel like doing anything, when all he really wanted to do was something.
He saw someone walking down below and grunted. Same old story. He was already moving off when he saw something else. Something in much more of a hurry than a girl stepping on her own shadow.
It darted out from under a store front, so Chaonis saw it for a second until it vanished under another over hang.
Toward the girl.
He moved to follow it, leaping down from the roof and landing near the girl, though he wasn't fast enough to beat the youma. It was already jumping at her. It was easier to sit back and watch them attack senshi, since he knew they could fight back, but it was not as entertaining for it to be a civilian.

The sudden movement from the corner of her eye caught Orah by surprise and she jumped, dropping her bag as she stumbled back. A very girlish scream broke from her entirely without her conscious effort and she threw an arm up as she stumbled and fell hard on her backside.
What the hell was that?!
Round eyes wide, she looked up at the... monster that loomed over her, gasping in fear as she tried to crab walk her way back away from it. She'd heard stories... everyone in the city probably had by now. Monsters that attacked civilians... It had seemed like a tale to frighten children, or something that only happened far away. And now here it was, reaching for her...
Orah let out another scream as she covered her head with her arms, convinced her life would end right there and then... eaten or ripped apart, no one ever knowing what had caused her death.

Chaonis heard the girl screaming and scoffed. Like that helped a situation. Honestly, why girls thought it absolutely necessary to scream at every little inconvenience that befell them.
Okay, sure. A giant demon monster thing was trying to eat her, but was screaming at it really going to change that? No. It was just going to annoy everyone involved, and probably just make the youma even more inclined to chow down.
The Senshi of Danger was thinking too hard about something that did not matter. It was just distracting him.
What was he doing?
She screamed again and he remembered.
"Alright, I'm going, keep your panties on," he grumbled, running over and grabbing the youma from behind. He wrenched it backwards and fell to the ground with it, struggling to wrestle it so he could pin it and bash it into dust.

The sudden arrival of... someone dressed in odd clothing that tackled the monster left Orah rather stunned herself. Who the heck was that?
Not that it mattered at the moment. Whomever he was, he was beating on the monster and that was good.
Scrambling to her feet, she looked around desperately for some sort of weapon, but when nothing presented itself, she did the only logical thing she could think of... When he had it pinned, she ran over, hauled back, and punted it in the head. Of course, that left her with bruised toes, hopping back on one foot as she assessed the damage she had done.
Certainly, no one could call her a shrinking violet when it came down to it. However capable her savior might have been, she could not have just stood back and watched while he took on the monster alone.

Chaonis was surprised when the girl hurled off and kicked the youma, looking up at her and grinning his approval. Not just stuck screaming for help, then, he supposed. And that was a good thing: she had redeemed herself in his eyes.
Not that it meant much. He mocked and frustrated everyone he knew, whether he liked them or not. Or they liked him or not. There was no escaping his cocky attitude, and any insult that popped into his head would, inevitably, fall out of his mouth.
He had a filter, he just chose not to use it.
Smashing his fist into the youma's abused head, the thing had no real choice but to burst into dust. He got to his feet, dusting himself and then regarding the girl. He grinned.
"That was a nice kick, though your form could use some work."

Keeping her weight off her sore foot, Orah stared as the creature burst into dust beneath the man's fists. Well, that was certainly an efficient way to clean up... no messy monster corpses. It made her wonder how often this happened and just no one knew about it because no one suspected the piles of dust have once been monsters.
Which brought up the question, now that she had time to think of it... who was this guy? Orah assessed him with a long look as she rolled her foot at the ankle, letting the pain bleed off.
"T-thanks... I guess." She said, risking a glance away from him to look for her bag before hobbling over to pick it up. "I don't get much practice booting monsters... what was that thing anyway? I've heard stories, I guess, but that was a first for me."
Suddenly remembering her manners, she stepped up and tentatively offered him her hand. "Thanks... for saving me. I'd probably have been eaten if you hadn't tackled it. May name is Orah Gowan."

Chaonis watched her, tilting to his head as he folded his arms over his chest. Now that the fight had passed he was feeling much more like himself, the adrenaline fading with its familiar little kick.
He grinned.
"That was a monster that wanted to eat you. There's not much more to it, really. But people like me, we murder those things and make sure people like you stay alive for longer than two minutes."
That was the goal, at least.
He eyed her hand, then arched an eyebrow at her. Shaking hands was kind of obnoxious to him, like it was something only adults did when they were being very serious.
"I'm Chaonis, Senshi of Danger. What are you doing out, besides being monster bait?"

Orah drew her hand back shyly when he didn't take it, clasping her hands behind her back. Shifting, she wiggled her toes inside her boot again. They still felt sore, but at least she hadn't broken anything. Just a little bruising.
"Nice to meet you." She said as she scuffed her boot on the street. "I was just... walking home from school. I had to stay late for choir practice. I've done it a lot before, this is the first time this has ever happened. I'm really glad you helped me out with it... I honestly thought I was going to die there."
Sighing in frustration, she shook her hair back, giving Chaonis a serious look. "This happens a lot, doesn't it? I've seen things on the news... where do those things even come from? Why hasn't someone done something about them?"
Now that she wasn't in direct danger, she found she had a lot of questions. Which was probably normal... you didn't have a near death experience every day, after all.

"Well, you're probably going to be on their dinner menu now, so you should be more careful about where you're walking, and when."
That was not how it worked: the youma did not look for food to share and didn't keep notes on who might be particularly tasty, should they get away after the first attack. Any encounter with a youma would be completely coincidental. Still, Chaonis liked to scare and mess with people if he could.
"I dunno," he said with a shrug, "it's not really something I feel like explaining to someone like you. Just leave worrying about these monsters to us. You might not think anyone's doing anything about it, but I know a lot of folks who would disagree with you."
He shrugged and waved the topic away.
"You think you can make it home without getting attacked again, or should I follow you around?"

That was a worrying thought... getting attacked once made her some kind of a target?
"Um, Thanks for the advice... I'll be on the alert from now on." She said, glancing around at the quiet, seemingly innocent street. Where could a monster like that hide? Where could she hide if she needed to get away from one...? Maybe she should always make sure she had heavy books in her bag, in case she needed some sort of makeshift weapon. At least it was heartening to know there were people out there doing something about it.
The mention of home made her shift, scuffing her boots again. It really wasn't all that far... if she got attacked again, he could probably hear her scream from here...
"Yeah, I can make it home from here. I'm pretty sure, anyway. You don't have to follow me, I'm sure you have very important things to do." Orah clutched her bag to herself as she spoke, working the strap up onto her shoulder again. She stilled finally, her fingers wrapped around the strap. He hadn't wanted a handshake, he probably wouldn't take kindly to a hug in gratitude...
"Thank you, again, for saving me."

Chaonis watched her. He wasn't sure what he thought about her yet, and decided he would have to keep an eye on her. Maybe he was getting soft, in his 'age', or at least in his time as a senshi. He'd been one for a while now, and he found he was getting more... dedicated, maybe. He hated that word. But it was true.
He wanted to make sure that his words didn't come true, and she didn't get eaten, oddly enough.
To make up for this, he was going to have to go steal something from a store or bully someone unsuspecting later. He could not accept the fact that he was just growing up, and not the reckless, jerk teenager he once had been. He was still -mostly- that guy, but enough had changed for him to notice.
"Yeah, you're right, I do. Just don't get attacked again." he nodded his head at her stiffly, but had already decided to follow her from the rooftops anyway, just to be sure. Damn it.

Orah gave him a bright smile before she turned and started walking away, looking back only once to give him a wave.
This whole situation was too weird... she felt like she should be making a bigger deal of it than she was. Wouldn't a normal person be having hysterics over something like this? It would be perfectly within acceptability for her to loose it a little, after all she had nearly lost her life, but at the same time, she found that she worried about what he would think of her. She had never seen him before and probably never would again, but still. He probably fought those things all the time... and if she accepted them the way she accepted wild animals, maybe walking away calmly was really the right thing to do.
Letting out a gusty sigh, Orah decided it was just too much to think about right now. There would be time for that later, when she was safe at home. Preferably in her pajamas and tucked warmly in her bed.
Seeing the shop ahead, the highschool girl broke into a trot until she reached the front of Farah's Garden, pausing in the aisle between the displays of brilliant flowers. For a moment, she looked back up the street, wondering if she'd see him still standing there, a small figure in the distance... but there was nothing to see. Wondering if it were the distance or if he'd left, she hitched her bag up higher and entered the shop, waving to her father behind the register as she made for the inner stairs up to the upstairs apartment.
Well, time to get back to real life. There was work to do and dinner to make, after all.
