 Gula had been lost in sleep. It was a very peaceful sleep, one where she didn't dream but drifted off in the realm of unconsciousness. There was nothing quite like rest where your mind was also at rest too. Of course, the gods had other plans. A thin twig from the tree above that had been hanging precariously earlier broke off and smacked her across the snout. She awoke with a start, immediately standing and lowering her head in an aggressive manner. When she realized there was nothing there, she threw back her head to laugh. Life was full of surprises. She looked up at the sun, wondering what other surprises were in store for her.

 The day was still rather young, but warm. Safi had just recently woken and was in the middle of one of the best and most luxurious stretches, her weight solely on her front legs as she pushed her hind legs out as far as they would go and forced her hips toward the ground. It felt so good, she almost purred. Almost.
Suddenly, there was a loud cackle off to her right. Safi jumped into a defensive crouch. While she had never personally had trouble with hyenas, her mother used to tell her stories about how they would sneak up in packs and pick off young lion cubs. Her hackles rose and her claws curled out of their sheaths and dug into the ground.
Slowly, she stalked in the direction the noise had come from, drawing in the air around her. Finally, she caught the scent, and allowed herself to relax; there was only one hyena, female from the smell of it, her scent heavy with sleep and a tinge of fear. Creeping further onwards, she spotted the hyena standing beneath a tree, laughing at seemingly nothing. Her ears pricked forward curiously, but she was hesitant to approach; this was the first creature she had encountered since... well, for a while, where the encounter was more than just a sighting of the animal as it wandered the Rogue Lands.
She was held back by fear - what would the hyena think of her? A leopard wearing a vulture's skull! - although she refused to admit it, even to herself. She felt resentment growing as her mind immediately began to reinforce the wall of brambles that protected her. Regret and disappointment that this was the way she now had to deal with people thanks to... him only made her angrier, with the treacherous coward who had changed her and with herself, for allowing herself to change because of him.
As all of her fury caused thoughts and emotions to scurry through her like frightened mice, she spaced out temporarily, with no regard for the fact that she was in plain sight of the hyena.

Gula closed her eyes for a bit as she lifted her face to the warmth of the sun. It felt good at times but most of the time it was a cursed thing when there was little water to find. Now was the time to enjoy it while there was still plenty of water to go around. She let the afterglow of her laughter settle. There was a memory of another hyena telling her that while medicine was the cure for the body, laughter was the cure for the soul. By the way it made her feel inside, she believed those words.
After a moment, she looked around her. Hopefully no lion had heard her laughing to herself. There were no lions but there was a curious creature with what looked like a vulture's skull on it's head. Weird, definitely not something she normally saw. She sniffed the air, it didn't look like a lion at least. Since she hadn't met many predators other than her own kind and lions, she wasn't quite sure what to make of this one. All she knew was that it was feline.
Her head tilted to the side in thought as she continued to stare. Looked female from what she could see and a bit touched in the head, if she could form an opinion based on looks. Gula had a habit of judging before knowing. From what she saw, it was spacing out and wore a skull. If that wasn't weird, she didn't know what was. Spacing out near other predators could be very deadly too. Good thing for this one, she wasn't one to attack creatures she didn't know anything about.

As the worst of her rage settled, Safi blinked to clear the red haze of anger from her vision. While some bitterness still remained, she had managed to shake off most of the fury and was able to pay attention to her surroundings. Glancing around quickly, she was just about to pad back into the cover of the trees when her gaze swept over the hyena that had brought her out here in the first place. The dog was staring at her openly, unashamed and not even trying to hide her suspicion and surprise.
Oh, perfect, she grumbled inwardly. From the look in the hyena's eyes, the creature thought she was completely insane. Just what she needed - another judgemental animal to stare at her like she was some sort of monster. As her anger started to rise again, she could feel her upper lip curling and her eyes narrowing to slits. Before she knew it she was stalking toward the hyena, strength, purpose and fury rippling through her muscles. As she strode forward, her claws slid out their sheaths and tore shallow scars into the earth.
Stopping in front of the hyena, Safi thrust her face into the hyena's and snarled, "Weren't you ever taught that it's not polite to stare?"Chun Chun Boom Okay, it's been over 5 months. This is officially being recorded as "Abandoned".
