Winter would have been a much more pleasant time of the year for Aventine if she'd had a bit more clothes to go along with it. She didn't envy any of the short skirted senshi out at this time of year, and even though she had stockings and sleeves of moderate length, that didn't change the fact that half her chest was hanging out and she was wearing shorts. After her conversation with Pasiphae, she'd really taken it to heart. And she knew she had to make a difference. Even if it meant half an hour in nearly unbearable temperatures.
On one hand, she loved snow. Just not when she wasn't prepared for it. She loved being able to dress up in half a dozen layers. In fact, she'd even humored the idea of snagging a coat for her knightly runs, though upon realization that she didn't have anything pink enough to match the rest of her outfit, she dropped the idea all together.
Which meant she had twenty three more minutes for her patrol before she got to wander back to her place, get a nice hot bath, and catch up on all the latest television.
She'd been working hard to take cues from her allies, and as Athene had the first night she'd met him, before she'd powered up she nabbed a hot drink, extra large, and was parading it around with her to keep the cold at bay as she meandered through the park.

This was the time of the year Delilah couldn't stand! It was cold. There was no snow. And the clouds never seemed to go away. Honestly it was the gloom that got to Delilah more than anything because it appeared to spread from sky to the people all over the city. At least during the Holidays people were cheerful. Now they just didn't seem to care.
Wrapped up in several layers with scarf, hat and gloves for added protection, Delilah was cutting through the park on her way home. Moving at a pace of freezing, she barely took in anything that she saw. Until something pink and summery caught her exposed eyes.
Coming towards her was a woman that was either from the North Pole or insane. Shorts and hello chest? Alright, she won the award for in need of fashion police.
"I'm sorry but how is it you are wearing that?" Delilah felt herself call out before the cold caused her to drop her lips under her scarf.

The voice immediately caught Aventine off guard, and she spun to face the speaker so quickly that she nearly dropped her drink. "Hey," she blurted before she'd even really assessed the girl in front of her. For far too long, she'd only come across other powered individuals, so when she had a girl—just a normal civilian standing in front of her…
Well, hell, how do you explain what you're wearing?
As if eying her garb was going to solve her current wardrobe issue, she dropped her gaze from the girl in front of her to glance at her outfit. "Ah…Hey! Wow! What do you know!" she exclaimed with an extremely awkward laugh as she lifted her gaze to the girl again. "Who let me walk out of the house like this, am I right?"
And then she saw it.
As much as Aventine was trying to focus on the girl in front of her, the faintest movement from well behind this girl made the page stiffen. She couldn’t see just what it was that had squirmed between two bushes, but it damn well didn't look like any forest critter she'd ever seen.
Which meant, maybe she hadn't been looking at any forest critter. It wouldn't be the first time she'd seen a youma that small, but she couldn’t jump to any conclusions—especially when she had an audience. Of which she still had standing right in front of her.
Eyes snapping back to the strange, Aventine managed another round of forced, half-hearted laughter. "So, ah…Guess…I should go change or…something. I mean, you know. Uhhh."
She stopped—swearing she saw movement again. This time, closer—and she wasn't going to risk an accident from happening if she could stop it. "…Though, uhhh…you know, random, but you haven't seen any weird little creatures around here recently, have you?"

Delilah knew right away that she had caught the woman by surprise and caused a bit of confusion. In a way she was worried that the exposed skin would be burned by flying coffee but it appeared Pinky had a handle on it and even managed not to spill a drop. Still, seeing it move as she turned made the attire all the more shocking. Was this woman from some French movie? She looked like right out of the pages of a Marie Antonie story; hold the hair.
The woman's first response made Delilah raise an eyebrow. She didn't sound French. "Steal a costume?" She asked finally settling on the fact this woman had to either be and actress or work at a museum.
Rolling her eyes at the idea of her just being late to babysit kids, Delilah still felt that she could have at least put on a jacket or something to keep this wind at bay. "That might be a good idea. It's only going to get colder and that drink won't keep the flu away."
Just as she was about to start walking again to prevent her own butt from freezing, her eyes caught the look of the woman in front of her. Turning her head around, Delilah looked back in the direction she came from. "Little Creatures? Not today. Even the birds are saying it's too cold to care."

Completely convinced that the girl in front of her thought her insane, Aventine forced a smile and tried to think of some way to rationalize the situation to a civilian without sounding like she needed to be put in an insane asylum. "Well, ah…keep your eyes out, you know? I've heard some people being attacked by strange monsters. Especially in this area. I was, in fact," her eyes skimmed the area once more before she continued, "Looking for some. I mean."
The girl sucked in a deep breath and then just raised a hand to her temple. "Oh my God, you have to think I'm insane. I'm not insane, I promise. It's all just super complicated and basically we can say that I lost a bet to wear some dinky little outfit, and I'm the type of girl who honors her word?"
Yeah, that was a good lie, right?
"But like, this place gets kinda spooky at night, and I seriously have heard of people getting into weird trouble and I'm sure you're a nice girl, but this whole thing is just totally weird and I couldn't even begin to think of how I'd explain it to you. Sorry. If it makes you feel any better though, I promise I'm not up to no good?"

Still gazing back at the woman, Delilah's eyebrow cocked at an angle that spoke volumes. The woman was losing her mind in the cold and Delilah was getting more and more concerned. Was she going to stalk her and follow her home now? Maybe she should call the police...
Her only response after noticing that she was alone with the woman was "Yea. I'm sure..." Of course she had heard of strange events going on. Who in the City hadn't? Still, why in the world would she be out looking for them? And in THAT?
Finally Delilah stopped her motion to back up and walk away only to shake her head and begin to pull her cellphone from the pocket of her coat. "Look, I can tell you are hiding something from me and being a complete stranger, I get that. But at the same time, saying that you are looking for something after attempting to warn me? Monsters? Saying you are up to no good when one look at you draws an entire world of attention towards you?" Delilah's other hand pointed at her outfit as her scarf finally dropped to show her face. "And you think I'll believe it's a bet and move on? Look, just give me one good reason I shouldn't call the cops to pick you up and I'll go?"
Just as she said that, her own eyes picked up the movement around them. Suddenly she wasn't looking at the woman but past her with concern on her face.

"Well, first of all, don't call the cops," Aventine blurted, "I mean, I'm pretty fast at running, so I'll be way gone before they ever even get—what's wrong with your face?"
Admittedly, the moment the girl pulled out her cell phone, Aventine's eyes had bolted to it, watching very carefully to try and determine if she was dialing a number, though it didn't take long for Aventine to want to try and make some sort of connection with the girl. Which required eye contact—which would have been so much easier if the girl didn't look like she'd just remembered she'd left the stove on.
Perhaps a bit overdramatically, Aventine waved her free hand in the air, as if to redirect the stranger's attention back to her. "Yello, are you even listening to me?" A shiver had run down her spine, though she was blaming it purely on the cold. "I mean it, don't call the cops. You will seriously ruin my night…"

Blinking several times, Delilah's mind came back to the situation at hand. She had just threatened to call the cops. But her eyes kept jumping from the woman's face back towards the bushes beside them. In a way, she was cursing they were evergreen because then something could hide in them. Had they been more like azaleas, nothing would be able to hide in the twigs.
"And it would ruin mine dealing with them as well. Cops aren't always the nicest to deal with."
Delilah was whispering as she noticed something stick out the top of the bushes. It didn't seem like it belonged at all. "Look, do you have a pet with you too? Because I swear there is something in that bush watching you." Delilah answered as she used the hand holding her phone to point toward the direction. It was getting on her nerves as it seemed to jump from bush to bush.

A shiver almost visibly ran down Aventine's spine and she turned towards the bush, taking a step back towards the girl. "It's probably not watching me, it's probably watching you. Look—I promise, I'm not up to anything bad, it's just—oh my god," she blurted, seeming horrified when the little youma, no more than a foot tall, crept from the bushes. It had a long, thin neck, and a head that looked vaguely equine, however the horse-like similarities ended there. It was perched on it's back legs in a posture that looked like a meerkat, however it had a plated shell on its back and strange, pincer-like claws instead of front paws.
"—It's hideous!" Aventine finished; she had stepped back to clutch either of Delilah's shoulders, as one might a friend during a scary movie. "Don't let it get too close to you, okay? I'm—I'm gonna take care of this, but like, you have to trust me, all right?"

'Why in the world would that THING be watching me? Delilah was shivering herself when that creature walked out of the bushes but not for the same reason the other female was. It was disgusting to look at. As if someone wanted to play a cruel joke on mother nature.
She didn't flinch when her shoulder was touched. Frankly it was welcoming because it meant that both were just as freaked out. "Why don't we just leave it alone and try to forget it exists?" Delilah called out trying to tear her eyes away from it. "Maybe it will go away."
And just as she said that, the creature tilted its head towards them, in an attempt to 'look cute' before coming a few steps closer.

Aventine's eyes were on it; it might look cute now, but she wasn't going to let herself be fooled. "Uh…Well, don't get your hopes up on that one. It's a youma, and like—they're nasty little buggers that come out and basically try to ear your face off. They're like little leeches and suck out all your energy. I think. I mean, usually I just attack them before they start making a fuss for anyone, so uh…I mean, I guess I should take care of it, but…"
But it was gross, and creepy, and she was worried that there were more.
Almost more than anything, Aventine would have loved to run—but she couldn’t do that right now. She was supposed to be the hero—and if she ran, who was going to save this girl? Or whoever else this youma found tonight?
"If it gets too close, just run, okay? But keep your eyes open, let me know if you see anything else and I guess I'm going to." She sucked in a breath and puffed out her chest, forcing herself to move away from the girl. "I'm going to take care of this." Her voice was steady, and she sounded convinced that she could handle it. Hell, she had fought much larger youma, right? What was the big deal?
With a slightly less than heroic battle cry, she swung her foot at the youma; the contact sent it sailing through the air, but she hardly seemed relieved. It landed in the bushes, but she lost sight of it shortly after. When it didn't emerge again for a few seconds, she sounded relieved and turned, grinning. "—I'm basically a professional," she declared. "My name's Aventine. Or, like. Right now it is. I'm not always dressed like this. What's your name?" She was hoping that the youma was gone, but on the off chance that it wasn't, she didn't want to leave any civilian alone…but all be damned if she had to stand here all awkwardly while waiting to make sure that monster was gone. Plus, why shouldn't she get to show off a little? And prove that she wasn't some super creep?

Delilah's head just turned an glared straight at the woman. "You have got to be kidding me." She said and looked back at the foul little creature. She had never heard of such a thing and the woman was supposed to take care of it?
"What are you going to do? Kick it? That's what I would. It's about the size of the football." She finally added still not believing anything about energy sucking creatures. Those had fangs like vampires in her head. Over all, Delilah had made up her mind. This woman was insane and that Thing was a science project gone wrong.
Her answer came pretty quickly when the woman known as Aventine sent the little beast flying. The cry it made sounded like a dying rabbit or something. Still, Delilah looked back over and attempted not to puke. "Aventine? Like the Roman Hill?" She ask softly. That was the only other time she had EVER heard of the name so of course it was the first place her mind went. She as about willing to introduce herself before the movement caught her attention again.
"Um, well, Aventine...." Delilah motioned with her finger back behind them in the direction the thing had gone. But this time, it seemed more bushes were rustling. "By chance, does it have friends?"

"s**t, I hope not," Aventine said, moving to stand in front of the girl protectively. "—Uh, yeah, Roman Hill. You know your geography, girl. I didn't have any idea about Aventine until I Googled it." And even then, she'd fallen asleep on the computer and forgotten just about everything she knew. All that mythological mumbo jumbo was totally lost on her—and when it came to geography, she knew that the hills were in Rome.
The rustling bushes were more than unsettling; one youma was no problem—but more? It didn't matter how small they were; she'd seen Jurassic Park enough times to know that even the little bastards could eat your face off. She cracked her knuckles and pulled out her perfume bottle, not even sure what it could do to help her. Unless, of course, she was going to give them all an asthma attack. There was always the opportunity to pummel them with it, and for as uncreative and lame as it was, it was starting to look like her best option.
Trying to distract this girl, she hoped that conversation might put her at ease. Or, maybe even the youma would get discouraged from all the voices and run off! Without ever taking her eyes off the bushes, she asked, "You know much about the place? I hear it's pretty. Super romantic. Or, at least, it used to be."

"I know my myths." Delilah responded as she naturally stepped closer at first. She then caught her movement and moved back. As for her knowledge, it came from her love of cameos. In knowing about them, she knew about their history and thus where they came from. Italy was high on the list.
Delilah started to move again but stopped as the rustling got stronger. She started to watch one of the bushes when Aventine spoke again. "If this is your idea of a date, remind me not to agree to go out again." Delilah snapped back as her eyes suddenly noticed the woman holding something. A bottle? What was that for?
"What are you going to do with that?" She asked looking to find anything she could use. For a moment, things went quiet. Then from the bushes, three of those creatures appeared all calling at them. Delilah stepped back before she reached around her neck and unwrapped the scarf she wore. A cold wind came up around her but she didn't seem to notice as she spun it up like boys did with towels. If this thing and its friends were coming, she wanted at least something to push them back.
"Maybe they were on a date?"

"Uhh, well that would be totally awkward," Aventine blurted, looking somewhat nervous. "I don't know if youma date, but the idea is just kinda gross." And more than a little unnerving.
"Okay, so I can take on three! It's no big deal! And these guys are small!" she insisted. She could probably dust them with no problem!
…Right?
Sucking in a breath, she attempted to calm herself. "They don't seem to be too bad. Just keep your eyes open and run if I say so!"
Without any other idea of what to do with her perfume bottle, she chucked it at the nearest youma and ran at another one, jumping into the air and slamming her feet down on top if it before she aimed a kick at the one reeling from the bottle to the face.
They let out two distorted squeals, but that encourage her to ease up on them; her attacks were uncoordinated and crude, but she at least had the determination and energy to show that she meant business—and was going to do everything in her power to keep her new acquaintance safe from harm.
