Copper stood under a tree, watching the sun as it began to lower itself into the treetops and onto the horizon. The sunset was the brightest he had ever seen, and he smiled calmly at the orange glow that was cast upon everything. If only she were here to see it...he sighed inwardly at himself. He had been determined not to think about her, or rather what he had done to her. He had just left her...he shook his head. You're thinking about it again. He thought to himself angrily. He looked at the red sky with equally red-hot anger towards himself, and as he did so he told himself that he had to find her. He was going to fix things. He had to.
He calmed himself, but only momentarily. As he looked up and watched the sun touching the horizon, it seemed as if the earth was being singed by it. He watched in alarm as the forest fire came soaring towards him. He thought he was dreaming, it sure seemed like a nightmare. But as he spun around and felt flames licking at his heels furiously, he knew it was real. He ran as hard as he could. He had experienced fires before, had saved others from them. But this fire was faster, angrier. The year had been dry, and the fire munched happily on anything before it.
As the flames threw themselves before him in taunting stubbornness, he knew he would not be able to beat this fire. The sweat poured down his brow and he looked in every direction, surrounded by flames. His vision began to blur. He made wild dashes at the walls of fire, but they both knew who would eventually win. At least there was no one to save, at least she was safe, at least...

'You've got to be kidding me' was the first thing that went through Adara's mind when she had spied the brown stallion simply staring at the approaching doom. She'd noticed the signs before the fire even came into view - the acrid smell of soot and burnt wood coupled with the fleeing wildlife was enough of a warning. She had been running at a somewhat leisurely pace, confident that the flames would not reach her once she reached the river at the edge of the trees. Her running was quickly halted when her eyes peeked from beneath her bangs to take in the odd stallion.
By the time the stallion came to his senses, Adara realized it was also too late for her to get away unscathed. The fire had come for them at a hellish speed. She could've escaped if she hadn't stopped and she found herself muttering about the idiocy of men while she huddled close to a large rock near the edge of the fire circle the stallion had found himself in.
"HEY!" she yelled over the crackling of the flames. "HEY YOU! OVER HERE!"
They were getting out of this. There was no way she was dying in a stupid fire. She had places to be, lands to explore! If they could just make it to the river they'd be home free and she could give this stallion a real good tongue lashing! Whether the big oaf would listen to her or not was another thing entirely.
Baby Pandah Super duper late @_@ My Adara muse is fickle, sorry 8c <3

He looked down slowly. Perhaps a little too slowly for the situation. But the shock had set in and there was little he could do about it. Until he heard what the little Usdia mare was saying and registered that she really was there. Her coat was bright and colored just like the fire, for a moment he'd though he had been seeing things. He blinked at her and shook his head. "Get out of here!" he didn't want her to be hurt. She was small, perhaps she could find a way out. But he was doomed, he was sure of it. Or perhaps he wanted to be doomed.
The flames approached, licking their way down a slope and towards them. "Go on! It's not safe! Don't worry about me, I can make it," he lied. If she didn't go he would have to find a way out for her, but it was looking more and more dismal by the second.
