CertBlackIce was feeling rather important at the moment, he had managed to slip away from the ever watchful eyes of the herd and wander off towards the edge of his mothers territory. Here he planned to spend a good bit of the afternoon gathering some new plant specimens to test with later on. A great many different plants grew down here near the treeline and he was anxious to see what they did when mixed in different ways.
The last experiment had been very exciting! The little bird chick he had found had jerked around in odd ways when fed a couple little green berries. BlackIce had been quite sure the little beast was going to die...but it had pulled through. Which was excellent because now he could focus on finding more plants and not on finding another test subject. But he was getting distracted with too much thinking and not enough gathering....now where was the plant that made others Itchy? He wanted to see what happened when you got someone to eat it..did it make your insides itchy? Of course he would have to be careful about how he harvested the itchy plant...since he didn't want to be itchy himself. Hrmmming to himself he poked around for a large leafed plant he could could use as a buffer between himself and the itchy leaves.

She had ventured a far distance away from her current home, the mountain that had a view of her old desert home but was within these new lands. Why she had wandered this way was unknown, Nyamuragira hated all these lush green plants. They grew tall and blocked out the sun, the produced sickeningly sweet smelling flowers, they bloody well grew everywhere! This was not the type of land she would normally go to, no she craved the familiar harsh grittiness of the desert, where everything was rough and welcoming. But she needed time to remain in this land, to allow those who would try to bring her to their causes aide to stop their search for her, then she would return home.
Walking along the soft grass Nyamurgira thought about setting the whole damned forest on fire. It would use up a large amount of her powers but it could be done, flame in the right spot, enough dryness in the leaves and whoosh everything would be aflame. Now that would be a wonderful sight! The mere thought brought a smile to her elongated mouth. But sadly that wouldn't work at the moment, for the rains recently had ensured everything was not dry but moist. She would need to save her vision for these lands for another day. Movement caught her eye up ahead and her predatory instincts kicked in. She was still used to feeding only on occasion, gulping down large amounts of meat unsure of when the next meal would come. Moving quickly through the trees Nyamuragira came closer to the target. As her eyes fell on the colt her need to hunt lessened slightly as she took in his features. Claws much like a Hippogryph would have, only this one had them on his back hooves as well, no wings, a tail that might have passed for one of her own kind, but it was the spikes and glowing eyes that intrigued her the most. The spikes, much like the tail, could elude to Ulun'suti blood. "What strange creatures this land holds." She commented as she stepped closer to the colt.

BlackIce mentally scolded himself as the voice sounded from behind him - he had gotten so lost in his search for the plants that he had forgotten to pay attention to what was happening around him. His mother would scold him horribly...it was a good thing she didn't have to know. Turning about to face the stranger he had to blink for a few moments after taking her in...now his mother was bit strange and he himself quite odd in comparison to many..but she, well...BlackIce had never quite seen the likes of her.
Still he wasn't about to let her know she had startled him so he looked her up and down and then remarked in a rather sassy voice "I reckon the same could be said for wherever you come from too."
There was something dripping from her and all those red marks..at first he thought they were wounds and she was bleeding but as he watched the 'blood' smoke on the ground he realized that whatever it was it wasn't blood. At least not normal blood. "Did you know you have red burning goo on you?" He asked, tipping his head slightly to study it. It probably seemed like a silly question..of course she must know it was there..but well, he was just a foal.

The colts words made her laugh, a vicious sounding chuckle escaping her. Laughter was not something that came from her often so it was an odd sound and feel, yet it did feel right for this moment. She knew her appearance was vastly different from those dull looking individuals that called this place home, but this colt proved to her that not all of them were so plain. "Oh no, I am quite normal for where I come from." She told him with a twisted smile. The desire to hunt had been lessened by his odd looks but if he proved to be more bothersome than it was worth...well she could see him making an interesting little snack.
His question brought on another odd laugh. "That is no goo boy. That is lava, and it is not just on me, but a part of me. I control it, it's flow lessens and grows at my will." To prove her point she thought of those who annoyed her and the lava churned faster, larger clumps dropping off at a quicker pace before she slowed the flow back to normal rate again. Her eyes ran over the colt once more. "Your features look oddly similar to me, perhaps you are from my land without knowing it. You appear to have Hippogryph blood, than would explain your claws..." Her gaze moved over his long tail and spikes. "But there is a hint of my own kinds blood as well, we Ulun'suti have tails and spikes similar to yours." Her own tail snaked forward to show the colt how they were similar in a way. It was possible for the colt to be a mix of those two bloods, she had seen a few hybrids in her time and while it insulted her to see Ulun'suti blood mixed with that of Hippogryphs some did have advantages, especially in fighting. If this colt was a mix then she wondered just what the parents looked like and if there was perhaps something else in the mix as well.

Black Ice was intrigued by the control over the lava, intrigued enough to not be annoyed about how this mare was interrupting his search for potion ingredients. The burning lava would be useful in heating up some of his various mixtures..the colt had long throught that heating some of the components would vastly affect the way they worked..but as of yet he had not found a way to do so. He doubted that he would be able to talk the mare into hanging around long enough for him to actually try it out however. Pity.
"Interesting, I have never seen this Lava before, everything is frozen and cold where I live." He started out, wondering if the mare would tell him where he might find more of this lava substance. Or perhaps she would let slip another option..she seemed to have traveled quite a ways and BlackIce did not know of much beyond his homeland.
"I don't know what a Hippogryph is but our tails do look similar." He admit with a slight tilt of his head - even the spikes on the mares tail sort of reflected the spikes on his own. "My mother has a tail with a sharp blade at the end of it...I don't know about my father but I suspect I inherited my feathers and claws from him as my mother doesn't have any" He shared with the strange mare. It was really too bad that none of his siblings had been interested in helping him down here today - they would never believe him when he told them he had meet a mare who dripped burning red ooze.

"Lava is not easily found, especially in places covered by ice and snow." She told the colt. In fact not all of her kind had features like her own, each Ulun'Suti was unique in a way and her uniqueness was her lava. Oh there were surely others out there who possessed lava on their bodies but since Nyamuragira tended to keep to herself she had not seen any with her own eyes. Was likely just as well, as she wasn't too keen on others of her kind anyways, nor was she a fan of Hippogryphs or the various species who lives in these new colorful lands. "Even the desert in which I lived most of my life lava was a rare find. It is us Ulun'Suti who wear it more often than the earth itself. And lava is a formidable ally as much as it is an enemy. But the lava it is not my primary power, that comes from fire, which allows me to control the heat and flow of the lava, for my element is fire." Why she was sharing this much information with the colt she wasn't sure, but perhaps she felt an odd kinship with the strange looking colt.
"I know of Ulun'Suti that have clubs at the end of their tails but not blades." Nyamuragira glanced off into the distance for a moment trapped in thought. Slowly her gaze returned to the colt. "If your mother does not have such features then it is safe to safe you gained them from your father." With a shake of her head a few small bits of lava flew off and landed not far from her, the land sizzling from the heat. "If you are from a land of ice and snow then what are you doing here? I do not see any of that retched cold stuff around this area." To her ice and snow were as evil as water was, for if enough was around it could harden her lava and that as a terrible thing to endure.

BlackIce sighed a little bit as the mare revealed that his lava substance wasn't easy to find. That was a shame - but he wasn't about to go traipsing all over the place to try and find it. He would just have to come up with a different solution. But then the mare turned the discussion in another direction and he could no longer be bothered to think anymore on the heating subject. And although the talk of her element was interesting he didn't quite understand what she was saying so he decided to let it pass rather then look stupid.
"I came down to look for potion ingredients." The colt stated in a bright voice, clearly the mare had hit upon a subject he liked. "I am going to mix them together and then feed it to a raven chick I found..see what happens." He went on "Last time there was a lot of shaking and jerking..quite funny really." Motioning with his head back upslope he went on "The snow is only up higher in the mountain, if you go high enough there's always snow..but nothing grows up there so it's kind of boring when it comes to potion ingredients."

Nyamuragira's brows raised a bit as the colt explained what he was doing out here. He was looking for ingredients to make potions? And would apparently be feeding said potion to a raven once it was made. How intriguing. Especially when he told her what happened with the last mixture he had given the creature. "You like to experiment?" She asked him in an amused tone, her elongated mouth curling up in a smile. For one so young it was good to see such interest in things already and he clearly got great delight in testing mixtures on the raven chick. Why she was so intrigued by this that she decided to actually stick around and help him find what he needed. "If I help you gather things can I watch the results of your mixture on the raven?" It would likely be entertaining to watch.
Of course she almost instantly regretted saying that as he went on to say that the snows were further up. Hopefully that's not where he lived, for she had little desire to deal with snow and ice at the moment, even if it did mean seeing a raven chick experimented upon. "Little grows in the desert as well, but at least the warmth there is appealing as is the grittiness of the sand." Though she wouldn't openly admit it Nyamuragira missed the desert immensely and was counting down the days she could return to her beloved home.

BlackIce puffed up his chest a little bit as the mare offered to help if she could watch his experiment afterwards. See! his experiments were interesting and worthwhile, an adult even wanted to see one, a stranger at that! "Of course, it's quite interesting." He assured her "I love to experiment...most Soquili just eat plants but I'm telling you that there are so many more used for them that its silly not to look into it." He went on in an important sounding tone, attempting to seem quite grown up around the older mare.
"See that plant there? That was what I was collecting, it makes you itchy when you touch it, really itchy..so I want to see what happens when you make someone eat it." Obviously something would happen, if skin reacted to it just by being touched why...he could only imagine what would happen if it was eaten. "But we have to be careful when we collect it..we don't want to get it on ourselves..so I picked those big leaves there to keep between us and the itchy leaves."
Her description of the desert was interesting, though BlackIce wasn't sure that he would agree with her description of sand being comfortable, he had yet to find sand that was...perhaps it was a different kind of sand? Some soft type that he had never seen before.

This colt was...amusing. She normally wasn't a fan of being around others, but encouraging this youth to continue his experiments and perhaps even give him some tips to help him branch out from using a raven chick to actually getting Soquili to consume his concoctions. Yes, this was something that needed to be encouraged and quite thoroughly. Why if she didn't hate the cold and ice she might have even considered offered to come out here again in the future to oversee more experiments, perhaps she would based upon the outcome of today.
As she listened to him explain what he was gathering and how he would acquire the needed leaves without allowing them to touch him. For someone young he certainly seemed to be smart, most foals wouldn't think to use another leaf to save them from the affects of the target. Her gaze moved to the leaf that he wanted to collect and then the other leaf he would be using to aide in gathering it. She was impressed. "You are smart to protect yourself from it's affects. But you are also saving and risking your experiment at the same time. You yourself will not touch the leaf thus not passing anything from your body onto it. But do you know if this other leaf is something that does not have any negative qualities that will interrupt your test of the itchy leaves." She wasn't aware of what either of the leaves plants were, still being new to this land Nya was only trying to offer any guidance she could to the experimenting colt.
Giving her head a slight shake she expanded. "I know little of the plant life in these lands. Being used to a barren land I find all the greenery offensive, but I can offer whatever help you need for this experiment."

Well for all his careful thought and cleverness it seemed he hadn't managed to think up everything after all and the lava mare made a good point. BlackIce tipped his head slightly as he considered what she had pointed out, really he ought to have thought about this but sometimes it took an outside observer to really see a situation clearly...he'd heard that from another herd member.
"I hadn't thought of that..." He admitted as he glanced between the two sets of leaves. "I know those ones are safe to eat." He told her pointing with one clawed foot towards the leaves he had planned to use as a barrier. "But I hadn't thought about how the two might mix...perhaps I ought to fetch the bird and make it eat the leaves right from the branch!" That seemed like a viable alternative..though it could prove a bit difficult if the bird decided to be uncooperative. He was sure that he could figure out a way around that if he had to however..with a little bit of thought. Turning to look at the mare he tipped his head to see if she approved of this new plan.

Seeing the colt realize that his once well thought out plan wasn't so perfect Nyamuragira let her elongated mouth curl into another smile. While she didn't mind encouraging his little experiments any opportunity to crush anothers hopes of dreams could not be passed up, even if it was of minor significance. Perhaps this would teach the colt to truly think things out before jumping to a conclusion. She waited as he thought things through out loud, giving her head a slight nod as he came to a simple conclusion.
"Yes, you could do that...for now. It will allow you to see how just those leaves affect the bird after being ingested. But don't stop the experiment there, wait for whatever effects to wear off and then give the bird a mixture of both leaves." Even if the dose of single leaves proved to give good results that was no reason to not test the other mixture. "And remember, just because something is safe for us to eat doesn't mean it won't have an ill effect on other species." She could think of at least one desert plant that could only be consumed by a certain species, others would fall deathly ill if not die should they consume enough of it. And there were cases of two good plants being mixed together in just the right dosage to prove fatal to those who ingested it. Though these were things she had merely heard as her own knowledge of plant life was quite limited.

BlackIce nodded as the mare outlined a new and better plan for his experiment. Yes her plan certainly made a great deal of sense and BlackIce filed the information away for future reference and thought. "I'll go and fetch him then!" He told the mare excitedly before turning and dashing off a few steps. He had gone only a few paces before skidding to a stop and looking back at the lava mare "I'll be right back!" He assured her and possibly himself.
He rather liked the lava mare..it would be a shame if she wandered off before he returned with the raven chick. But even if she did BlackIce told himself she had already given him the most valuable information and while he might miss sharing the fun of the experiment itself with her he wouldn't forget whom had helped him formulate the plan. It was important to remember and pay ones debts he knew..he'd heard that from his mother. Having assured the mare that he wouldn't be gone long as all the little colt dashed off again, running as swiftly as his clawed feet could carry him back up the mountain pathway.

Well the colt certainly had spirit. This was the first Soquili she had met since coming to these new land that actually made her like this area was not a waste and that not every other individual was an idiot that thought rainbows, sunshine and flowers were the best thing ever. She hated those happy times. She had seen many of them in the desert but this land held so many more of them. Yet this colt was her one example that there were others out there who she could get along with. Nyamuragira's eyes watched as the colt ran off, stopped, told her he'd be back and then took off again. Under any other situation she would have been relieved to have the other leave and she would take that as her opportunity to hurry off. Today was not the case, she wanted to see how things turned out with the colt's experiments.
She hoped that it wouldn't take the colt too long to return, she may be interested but she was far from patient. Waiting around too long would cause her to leave. Tapping the end of her tail on the ground Nya tried not to get too impatient, this experiment would be fun to watch, especially if the leaves had some sort of negative affect on the bird. Her movements quickly went to pacing along with tapping her tail along the ground. Her eyes darted around looking at all the other plants in the area that he possibly use for other experiments. She knew nothing of the local plant life but one thing she had heard in the past was that the more colorful something was the more poisonous it was, and this forsaken land was filled with brightly plants. Why that disgustingly orange plant might prove to be interesting, or perhaps that one with the spiny edged leaves would be at very minimum uncomfortable to swallow, that could be fun to watch. Now where was that colt? Her eyes moved back to the trail he had disappeared down.

Thankfully for Nya the colt really hadn't all that far to go, he had already brought the chick most of the way down the mountain this morning to keep from having to drag the leaves or anything else he found all the way back to the herd. He would have brought him here to wait the whole time but he'd been afraid the rather dumb bird would wander off into the more dense vegetation.
Now that he was about to actually administer the experiment however that wasn't a concern anymore...he planned on watching the bird the entire time. Having collected the rather fat little chick BlackIce hurried back to the spot he had left the lava mare half afraid that she had gotten bored and wandered off. Thankfully that did not seem to be the case and as he came scampering around the last bend, clawed feet shooting up clods of dirt behind him he was quite pleased to see that she was indeed still waiting. Slowing down he deposited the litle white raven chick on the ground before him, where it sat in a pudgy ball with a somewhat distant expression in its eyes.
"I call him Scourge" BlackIce told the mare proudly. "He's a good test subject because he's pretty dumb..and he'll eat anything."
