Atlas was at a loss of what to do. His father had given him the day to take a break from his rigorous training, but he didn't have any other activities to occupy his time with. He'd eventually decided to scout out the area, but he was starting to tire from it. Occasionally his gaze fell on herds with their foals running around aimlessly. Some sort of training exercise, perhaps? He wasn't really sure; he only knew his father. Maybe he would meet his mother and sisters that were occasionally mentioned.
After a while, even other herds were a seldom sight. He'd have to find water and shelter soon, before he collapsed. He thought he spotted something up ahead, so he started walking towards it. With any luck, it'd be a watering hole.

Tekashi was doing her own sort of training. Survival without the family training on her own. She liked the peace and quiet, the challenge of finding food in this harsh place. She liked to watch the stuggle of life, the beetle, the lizard. How the beetle would hesitate before it moved into the sun, how the lizard would hide nearby, only the eyes moving. And once the beetle made a break for it the lizard would scrabble across the hot red sand and crunch it three times before a satisfied swallow and half closed eyes. It was so primal.

Atlas didn't find a watering hole. He found a white and green filly instead, which was quite the disappointment. He wasn't vampiric like his mother supposedly was, so there was no point in attacking her. His gaze went to the lizard and beetle she was watching before moving on. He had no interest in those creatures. He had made his goal and he was going to complete it. Anything that got in his way would be trampled underfoot or be the recipient of the fruits of his training.

Tekashi glanced up and watched silently as a clay colored coat came towards her. Her lizard scurried off into the brush, intimidated by the looming figure. Tekashi simply looked at him not in the mood to call out like some harpy, if he were interested he would stop, if not in his passing her lizard thing would come back. The sun came out from behind a cloud and pleasantly warmed her coat. She loved when it did that.

Atlas's glanced over at the other foal, inspecting her for a moment before continuing on. The colors were interesting, but irrelevant to his current task. The sun started beating down on his back and it wasn't long before his footsteps began feeling heavier. A little while after that, the world blurred and swirled in front of him. He stopped, shaking his head to try and clear his vision. This had been a bad idea. He shouldn't have strayed this far from his father...

Tekashi continued to watch him, he seemed to be faltering. Silly colt had gone too long in the sun without water, shed bet her bottom. He swayed and her eyes crossed. Oh well nothing for it but to try and help. She sidled over and gently pressed up to his side, slowly so as not to firghten him. She pushed a bit guiding him to where she knew there was water. Lucky for him it was descently close, he was a heavy bloke after all.

Atlas snorted and shook his head at the contact, but was forced to relent and let the white filly guide him. He stubbornly carried his own weight, however, using the other foal's presence only when he needed to steady himself. This was embarrassing, having to be helped along. His father would've never allowed him to outgrow the humiliation if he ever found out.

Soon enough they had reached the water and Tekashi averted her face to give him peace while he drank. He would need a great deal of water if he was as dehydrated as she thought. She wandered a little ways a way to examine a flickering dragonfly who was hovering over a cattail. Her lizard had probably disapeared by now down a nice dark hole.

Atlas drank the water slowly, lifting his head after a few gulps and walking halfway around before dropping his head to drink again. Then he returned to his original spot and repeated the motion, doing so until his thirst was completely satisfied. Even so, it would be foolish to continue now; his body needed rest. His eyes scanned the area until he saw a boulder jutting out from the sand. The colt trotted over to it and laid down in the shade it created. With nothing else to do, he watched the filly by the cattails. Why had she helped him? What benefit did it give her?

Tekashi gently blew on the dragonfly and it buzzed away to another cattail. So she followed a harp toad around and watched it, and when that grew boring a squirrel. So much life in such a seemingly desolate place, one had to simply watch. As for the brown colt, she was happy he was at least resting and not trudging on like some loony. Boys, not enough sense to know when to find water. She wondered if they were all that dense, her brothers sometimes were. He was blessedly quiet and didn't scare of the animals at least. A snake slithered past so she followed that next.

Atlas just watched her chase around the wildlife, keeping his confusion behind his stoic expression. What was the point? It would only run away, and it wasn't like she was hunting the creatures. It made no sense to him... His ears flicked up when he heard something nearby, a frown developing on his face. He got to his feet, searching for the source. Was it something dangerous, or was it simply another squirrel or lizard?

Her ears perked up at his movement, her snake had silithered into the grass and was now impossible for her to find, the stripey prat. She tilted her head listening for the noise, he was tense. He needed to perhaps relax the slightest bit and see stuff around him for once. That was where the true knowledge was.

Atlas glanced at the filly, rolling his eyes when he caught her staring at him. What he was doing wasn't unusual. There was a possibility of danger, so he was alert. He turned his attention back to the sound of the approaching creature. He kicked the boulder he was standing beside, hoping the noise would help him determine the creature's identity. If it kept coming, it was likely a predator. If it fled, it was just prey.
(( Predator odds, prey evens. ))
It wasn't startled. Predator, then. Atlas quietly inched away from the boulder since the creature was now heading for it. The colt looked ready to pounce at a second's notice. In his head, he was going over his strategy. 'Wait until the head and shoulders are completely visible. Strike just behind shoulder to knock into boulder and throw off-balance.. Smack head against rock to disorient.'

Tekashi for her part wasn't scared. She mostly wanted to see what it was. It could be any number of things. Puma, a martin, jackal, or what have you. In this case it would be more uncommon then say a rabbit or squirrel.

A jackal. That's what emerged from its hiding place and had fixed its gaze on the white filly. But Atlas didn't worry about that nor anything else. He simply launched himself forward to execute his predetermined plan. Of course, it didn't work out exactly as planned; the jackal was quick and seemed determined to make Atlas his next meal when he was noticed. But in the end--as usual--the colt came out on top. He shook the sweat from his mane, examining his kill. For a smaller predator, it put up a fight. He would have to remember that for future reference. Atlas moved back to the water, taking a drink and debating whether to jump in to clean the blood and sweat from his pelt. Speaking of his pelt... he turned and inspected his sides for injury. There were quite a number of claw marks, but most of them didn't seem too deep. It was hard to tell for sure with the amount of blood trying to hide the wounds, though...
His gaze fell on the white filly by accident, but he let it settle there for a moment. He absently wondered what she would think of his... savage performance. From what he saw of the foals in other herds, his training and fighting wasn't that common. Well, there was no point in dwelling on it. Now he had to decide what to do with the dead jackal.
