User Image Tiki was tired. He'd been up all night helping his sister through a rather violent vision that the poor girl barely remembered afterwards. He walked at a slow gait, having the need to scout the area - just to make sure she was safe. He would die before his sister came to harm, especially in such a fragile state. He hated seeing such a strong creature so broken by something.

The young hyena shivered at the memory of his sister suddenly convulsing, eyes rolling into the back of her head. The least he could do was make sure the area was safe, if not find some food and water while he was here. They would need to move on once she was better, but right now, they were here in foreign territory that smelled strongly of Lion, and it made him nervous. He wandered on, hoping he wouldn't run into anyone unfriendly.

User ImageDayo was hunting on her own today, or perhaps it was just an excuse to get away for a while. She was near the outer edges of the Pridelands, but she didn't expect to run into any trouble. Well, with a bit of luck she might run into something interesting... Like that lion she met the other day.

When the wind turned and she caught the scent of hyena she didn't realise what the smell was at first. She had deliberately gone in this direction since it was as far as you could get from the filthy hyenas in the Elephant Graveyard. She tensed up and sniffed the air again. Dog? No... But could it be? She looked around, trying to spot the intruder.

Tiki froze when he spotted the Lioness - she didn't seem to notice him, but he didn't think it would take long for the other to notice him. He could only hope she wasn't hostile - he wasn't in any shape to fight his way away, not that he could really fight in the first place. He was just so tired...

Lions rarely came to the Amani when they were back home - home that was no longer home. He tried to calm himself to move - he was on pack territory without a doubt then.

Now only if he could get his muscles to move...

When the young lioness spotted the bright coated hyena she was embarrassed not to have noticed him sooner. He stuck out like a sore thumb, but her attention was obviously not what it should be and it scared her. Her ears were plastered against her skull and she bared her teeth.

"What do you want," she growled, afraid that she had walked into a dangerous situation. It was so easy to dismiss her elders when they droned on about dangers and vigilance and blah. When she was younger she'd daydreamed about meeting hyenas and chasing them away with her friends, but this didn't feel like a fun adventure.

Tiki bared his teeth back, as an automatic response, before backing down. He didn't want to fight. He ducked his head and backed away a bit. "I'm sorry, Ma'am. Just passing through," he responded, trying not to sound rushed and he schooled his face to a neutral expression, staring the lioness down. He wasn't sure how lions responded to being stared at. Dogs deemed it as a threat, but he hoped the Lioness didn't attack him.

He couldn't afford to be invalided; his sister needed him. He took another hesitant step backwards - he couldn't lead her to his sister, but he had nowhere else to go. If he ran too far, they might find her....

"You can't pass through here," Dayo said in a voice that was high pitched from fear. "It's pride territory, you'll be killed before you can try anything funny."

Her own reaction scared her too. She would have imagined being a lot cooler than this in a crisis. The hyena had backed away, but she didn't dare to trust that it wouldn't attack. She stared back, unsure what to do. Letting it get closer to her home wasn't an option, but she was honestly not sure what she could do to stop him if he wanted to try to get past her.

"Why do you need to go this way anyway?" she asked, to try to get some time to think.

"I just need some water, and I'll be on my way," he decided on saying. There was lots of water in these lands, just like back home. "I don't mean any trouble. Honest to the Gods." He didn't usually talk so much - Ban normally did the talking, so he wasn't used to it.

But he was really thirsty, and he'd be in this area for at least the rest of the day. And he couldn't lead the lioness back to his sister either. She was just inside these pridelands, and he was worried. They crossed a river coming in - maybe they could go back that way, but the water was far down and looked rather dangerous. He didn't want to risk it...

"Well," she said. If she had been a human she would have crossed her arms. Instead she puffed her chest out and took a more aggressive stance. "You can't keep going this way. The scouts will find you and kill you."

They would hear her if she called now, right? Right? s**t, they might not, but she couldn't let an evil hyena waltz past her. She needed to think of something, and quickly. When she was younger she daydreamt about fighting hyenas, but she had no desire to get into something she couldn't get out of. This was an adult hyena and it could do some serious damage, even if she won.

Their staring contest was getting ridiculous, and she broke eye contact. What if she gave him what he claimed he wanted? If it was just a trick he'd keep trying to get further into the lands, and then she'd have to... Something. But if he was just thirsty... She bit her lip.

"Turn around while you can," she said, and she almost managed to sound threatening, "If you really have to get water there's a small spring out that way. But I can't promise you there aren't more hunters there. Are you willing to risk it?"

Tiki paused, contemplating his options. He could not go back the way he came for fear of the lioness following him, and he could not go forward either. His ears flicked back, taking a hesitant step back so she wasn't so close to him.

Water could wait, he supposed and swallowed against the dryness in his throat. He might have to push his sister up and pull her from the lands if he could manage that. He couldn't fight if someone decided to attack them, he was far too weak for that.

"I can't risk anything, honestly," he told her, nervously glancing around for an escape route. He could not turn his back on her - that would be foolish. He might have been raised in a peaceful pack, but he has seen dangers in the world and knew it could be scary and dangerous.

"If you'll allow it, I can go back the way I came..."

Dayo wasn't sure what to do. The hyena acted submissive enough, but it could be just that - an act. She wondered if he'd come sneaking back as soon as she turned the other way.

"I guess," she said, eying him with obvious suspicion, "But don't try anything funny."

She realized that she had no idea exactly where he had come from, and no real way to check that he was going back that way. Her eyes fell on a scrawny bush with yellow flowers. It looked tiny in the distance, but she knew it almost reached her shoulders if she stood beside it.

"Wait," she said, and motioned towards the bush with her head, "Go towards that bush. That's away from the border."

And incidentally, it would leave him past one of the small and almost hidden water holes, if he was smart enough to find it. If he really just wanted water he might go away after getting some. But she needed some way to check that he was really moving away from the border. She searched for some of the familiar landmarks in the area and picked two quite far away, one to the far left of the bush, and one to the far right.

"I don't want to see you stray outside that rock," she indicated a small rock in the distance, "And that broken termite mound," another head movement, "I'll check."

That gave the hyena a rather large wedge of "allowed" terrain, but no obvious hiding places to disappear in. And with his colorful mane she would be able to see if he tried anything.

Tiki could almost sigh in relief. He had left his sister in that direction and his shoulders sagged a little from the emotion. "Oh, of-of course..." he muttered. At least he had avoided the fight. "I am really sorry for intruding on your territory. I did not know that it was part of a pride's lands." Well, he could smell it. He could also smell the faint trace of Hyena on the wind, but that was something far off.

He shrank back a little, taking a few small steps back. He glanced to the bush and then to the broken termite mound and glanced at his paws. He could run? But that could prompt a chase, and he did not want to show his sister's location.

He was a bit nervous, and clenched his jaw, before sighing again. "Please don't attack me when I walk away?"

He was afraid. He was afraid of her. Dayo sat still like a statue, mulling over this. A warm tingle of power settled in her belly. She made him look like that. Nervous. Worried. Frightened. She enjoyed the feeling, but at the same time it was overwhelming. The good guys shouldn't feel like this, but... Oh, she enjoyed the power trip.

"Go," she said, in a voice she hoped sounded dangerous, "As long as you do what I say I will not hurt you."

Tiki scampered away, rushing towards his sister. Luckily, she was away and blinking tiredly at him. He nudged her up and she sighed. He glanced back at the lioness, making sure she would not attack him or that she saw his sister. He led her away from the lands, stopping for a second when he nearly stumbled into a small hidden patch of water.

He was so nervous that the lioness would decide that this was outside of what she said to do. He paused to allow his sister to drink and then pushed her on outside of the lands. He made a mental note to never return to this place.
