This... was not a good day for Lazarus. He hadn't flown in some time, and, as the skies had been an unusually clear, he'd chosen to take wing. It had been extremely enjoyable at first: he was always amazed to see how slow traveling by hoof could seem when he was aloft, and with the air came the freedom of traveling in any direction he wanted. It was true he was not a very graceful flier, but he didn't mind. He could manage. But not today.
A cold wind blasted towards him, and he lacked the experience to ride it. His only options were to land or to be thrown around like a rag doll. The choice seemed obvious, but it wouldn't be that easy. The ground beneath him was a large expanse of forest, and he was always suspicious of the evils that could be found beneath the boughs. Mother Nature seemed to sense his hesitance, for she sent a weaker, but still potent, breeze at him.
With that, he lost his hold on the currents and plummeted down. His velocity was slowed with a few desperate strokes, but he was unable to regain the air. The branches, which he inevitably reached, broke under his weight and further served to ease his descent. When he finally touched the ground, it was with all four feet. He was battered and bruised (so very bruised), but alive.

Kiyoko was walking through the trees of the forest, enjoying the stroll on this nice day. Yes, if she wanted, she could choose to ride the breeze in the sky. It was quite a thrilling experience too. But no, she preferred to fly when she knew of a nearby clearing where she could land, in case of an emergency or otherwise. She had no idea how large this forest was or how close the nearest clearing may be, so she wasn't going to risk it. Besides, she couldn't enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forest from up in the air.
Walking along, she sighed happily. Her journey stopped when she spotted a squirrel scratching at the floor for something and decided to watch it. A smile graced her face as it chittered a bit before scurrying over to a nearby tree and scaled up its trunk. She continued to watch it as it disappeared into the branches and was about to turn to continue her trekk when a snap from overhead kept her attention to the trees. At first, she thought it was a bird moving from one branch to another, but with the snapping of more and the steady approaching of the sound, she sensed something wasn't right. Her eyes widened when she finally saw a large form coming quickly to the ground and with a surprised whinny, hurriedly galloped out of the way. She winced when she heard the thud of whatever it was that crashed to the ground. Cautiously, she made her way back over to investigate. Craning her head out at her approach, she gasped when she realized what had fallen was a soquili. "Oh my! Are you alright?!" She quickly galloped back to the others side, not really caring that the question she just asked was a stupid one, it should being obvious from the fall they'd just taken that they weren't alright.

Lazarus lowered himself to the ground, his legs pained and unsteady. His body heaved under his labored breathing, the whites of his eyes exposed as he checked himself over and struggled to keep composed while the worst scenarios flickered through his mind. All he could think was that he had to be okay – that there was some chance his legs could simply be bruised but not broken. He was painfully aware of his build all of a sudden – not just his own, but of soquili in general. Such long, thin legs: they were not like wolves or bears or ocelots, they couldn’t survive if even one broke. And he didn’t want to die, not here in this strange, unfamiliar forest, closed off from the rest of world.
Sweat and foam quickly coated his pelt, and he lashed his tail, distressed. He did not even notice a mare call out to him, not until she was beside him, at least. Her presence was far from expected, and he nearly jumped before he realized she wasn’t a predator.
