Hello everyone whee

I need help with the identification of a plant. My mother was tending to her plants in our yard on Thursday and told me of a strange plant she saw that she hadn't seen before. She tried pulling it out but she got her fingers stung; so she left it where it was.

I don't know much about plants and I'm not familiar with the "mystery plant" so I took a picture with hopes of getting it identified.

It has transparent stinging needles/hairs on it's midrib and veins. These are only on the undersides of the leaves. It also has thicker needles on the end of each incised leaf. It's approximately three inches wide. Not at the base of the plant but at the "leaf span"; and it's equally tall. It's growing on the NE area of our yard.

I had taken a photograph of it with a wooden ruler for scaling but those came out blurry.

I don't know if I described it well enough, but I hope that my description along with the photograph helps in it's identification. 3nodding

Looks like a species of Thistle, dunno the species, or genus, but it's of the Thistle family from what I can tell. If it has thorns like the ones you're talking about, then it most likely is a thistle. It is an edible plant, which is enjoyed by donkeys, so much that they reference Thistles in Winnie the Pooh with Eyore eating them on a regular basis. The flower will also help figure out what genus it belongs to.
