Once Dino had been given the tour, gotten Disk fed, and finished putting away his things, his mind turned immediately to his sister. He had no way of contacting her directly to let her know he was here. He hadn't even responded to her letter yet, since there was every chance that he would arrive before it did. So there was nothing for him to do but wander the halls, hoping to find her. Fortunately, he had a good idea of where she would be. He got directions to the infirmary and started walking that way, Disk in tow.
He wouldn't call it a surprise exactly. Considering how well she knew him, he'd be surprised if Malta didn't expect him to come marching down here himself. Even before Dino had a big bronze murder machine by his side, he always made one thing abundantly clear: nobody messed with his sister!
He waited till around midday, when hopefully she would soon get a break from work, then went and waited outside the infirmary for her.

Malta hadn't recieved a reply to her letter to Dino, and work had quickly pushed all thought of her brother out of her mind.
It been a nice quiet streak- not many injured, sad people coming in for treatment... until that morning when apparently some violent prisoners had decided to attack each other...
They were pretty badly cut up...
She had had to help patch them up, and hadn't had a break since she had gotten up in the morning. She hadn't actually slept more than an hour, having stayed up with a glow studying medical texts and organizing supplies.
She regretted that.
But finally she had a break to eat. She and the masterhealer had done all they could and the prisoners would be better (hopefully) soonish!
She had walked outside to sit down when she remembered that she had actually forgotten to make lunch...
That meant... She would have to beg the chef for something...
She cringed. Talking... the thought of it made her stomach plummet and turn cool.
She was so tired and worried that she didn't notice her brother Dino and his wher Disk.
Well.
Part of that may have been that she hadn't seen him in years.

While Dino waited outside the infirmary, Disk stood by his side, infinitely patient. His eyes drooped lazily and he hummed to himself as he daydreamed about chasing... something (whether it was food, a female, or an enemy didn't matter, they were equally enjoyable to Disk).
He could hardly blame Malta for not noticing him, when he was so lost in thought that he almost missed her himself. Although he saw her walking past, it took a moment for the thought to register in his wandering mind. By the time it did, she had already strode past him.
"Oh.. wait!" he called, running after her. "Malta!" he said, laughing. He finally caught up to her, reaching out for her shoulder to stop her. "Malta, wait. It's me."

Malta jumped and shrank back at the sudden touch of an unfamiliar man!
She 'relaxed'- IE- shrank down- when she saw the wher.
A guard.
Guards were okay, right?
And...
Now that she thought about it...
The man was familiar.
She didn't remember seeing him around. So how did he know her...
Oh!
"Dino?" she said incredulously, studying his face.
Some harsh marks of travel, some worry lines...
but...
It was him!
She truly relaxed now, not the shrinking, hiding thing she had been doing.
"Dino! You came!" she said, a smile spreading across her face with slow delight.
Without thinking she pulled him into a tight hug.
"You actually came!"
The reply lay unopened at her bed, passed over for a thousand other things and forgotten.
Didn't matter.
She hadn't realized just how much she had missed him.

"Of course I came! Did you think I could leave you alone after that?" he said, hugging her back tightly. "And besides, I've missed you." He wrapped his arms around her back and squeezed, very nearly picking her up off of the ground. He couldn't believe how long it'd been since he'd last seen his sister. All he wanted to do was talk and catch up. But right now, there were more important matters at hand.. His smile faded.
He stepped back from Malta, but he left his hands on her shoulders, fixing her with a serious look. "Now.. Tell me who's been making fun of you." he said with an even voice, as though all he were going to do was give them a stern talking to and get them to apologize. But there was a glint of evil intent in his eyes, which implied what would happen if they didn't.
Disk regarded the girl with curiosity, instead of the usual suspicious vigilance with which he watched anyone else who got that close to Dino, that he didn't know for a fact wasn't a threat. Since they'd only met for a short time before she left, Disk would never have remembered Malta if it weren't for the sheer bulk of time that Dino spent thinking about her. The one thing Disk did remember is how comforting her touch was, and after they had finished hugging, Disk trotted over to her expectantly and held his head up to be scratched.

It was hard for Malta to describe how happy she felt right now. Dino had gotten bigger and stronger and she felt a deep sense of relief and pride. Pride that he was so imposing, and relief that he was here, someone strong she could count on...
Not that the master healer wasn't strong in his own way, and she trusted him, but it was just... good to now Dino was here, and would be looking out for her.
When he released her from the hug, she reached out slowly and carefully to Disk.
She liked Whers.
She laid a hand on his head and stroked along the long axis of his skull until she found a good spot behind one of Disk's horn nubs. She skritched there. It was a good spot. She gave Disk a smile, too, which faded as her brother became serious.
She kept scritching as she turned to face her brother.
"W-well..." She didn't know most of the people by name, she just didn't want to know who they were. Something about Dino's expression made her nervous about telling him.
But she read between the lines. That was why he was here, to be her big brother and protect her. And he wouldn't do anything too bad...
Right?
"Some of the p-prisoners... The ones that help in the infirmary or are sent there..." they could be the worst, especially when they were upset or in pain, "And... uh... a few of the guards..."... but they weren't nice to anybody. They had a hard job, she supposed she understood a little...
"and... uh... the supply dragon's rider..."
His name was evading her, and even if she had wanted to tell him specifics, the expression on his face and the tone in his voice made her a bit nervous. It was hard to remember things like that when she was nervous.
"B...but... the Masterhealer is good to me and the other apprentice is very nice too! The cook is a good person too..." she said quickly, hoping to lighten the dark look on Dino's face.
In her nervousness she instinctively drew her hand away from the wher, not wanting to share the unease.
