"I know you never meant to do,
all the things you put me through.
It's ok I forgive you."

Mud Flower paced back and forth in her burrow, she had taken a few days to recover, had been of no help and made a rookie mistake on the raid. She gave a soft sigh her through still tender from where the snare had bit into it. She was lucky to be alive, so extremely lucky to be alive. She had heard what had happened to Ginkgo, the fire eyed owsla that had saved her. She knew of course that he wasn’t the only one that had saved her, wasn’t the only one that had been there. She just couldn’t recall who the other’s had been at this moment, couldn’t remember. The last thing she really remembered was the soft reassurances he spoke before her world had faded to black for some time. She had wanted to go, thank him somehow, and perhaps if she had been there she could have done something to help him. She wanted to apologize for making such a big mistake there were so many things he wanted to do but at the same time she just couldn’t.

She stilled, her body starting to hurt a touch, she discovered that when she started to stress her body and head started to hurt. She couldn’t be sure why and she assumed it would go away with time but for right now she needed to remain calm but to do that she needed to do something. She settled in the dirt of her burrow for a moment before suddenly getting up grabbing a carrot she moved from her down and towards where Ginkgo was being kept.

Upon reaching the burrow she shifted for a moment, not sure of what to say. Should she call out? Should she just walk in? What was the proper etiquette of approaching the burrow of an owsla? She couldn’t remember, not sure she had ever even known honestly, she had never approached them as an outskirter. She shifted for a moment more before deciding to just stick her head in. “Are you awake?”

User Image Ginkgo was fortunate in that not only was he alive, but that he had a few other owsla willing to take his shifts so that he might have plenty of time to recover. Though really, given the amount of pain he was in, he often found himself wishing the Black Rabbit had taken him anyway - so that he could have some rest and no longer ache. It hurt to move, to breathe, to eat. To say he was miserable was an understatement and he longed to get out to the surface and feel a bit of fresh air breezing through his fur. He felt he would go stir crazy and was even growing weary of Dogsbane's presence.

Genuinely weary this time.

The runner was genuinely useful, though. He brought the badly wounded officer flay. He even went out and found an old hlessi and brought back herbs that helped to take away the pain. Never more leaves than toes on a paw per day, he mentally reminded himself at the mere thought of the old rabbit's instructions. He liked those herbs very much, even if they tasted bitter. They helped him get through the day. He knew he would be right as rain one day, but that day seemed so far away at the moment.

Currently, he was nestled in a bed of fluff, little bits of things he had gathered over the summer to make a nice, warm, nesting place to ride out the winter. He was glad he had started early, else he might be freezing his tail off soon. He was dozing lightly, somewhere between wakefulness and sleep. A torn ear flicked and he lifted his head groggily.

"I am now." His voice was somewhat sharp, as he could be a cranky rabbit and felt far from well at the moment, but he was quick to apologize when he recognized who it was at his burrow's entrance. The doe from the raid, the one that was caught in the wire. He was relieved to see she was alright for the most part.

"Many pardons."

"I know you never meant to do,
all the things you put me through.
It's ok I forgive you."

Mud stilled and flinched slightly at the sound of his voice. He looked awful, laid out like that, clearly in pain. She rolled her shoulders in a shrug her ears falling back. “No, it’s fine. I didn’t mean to wake you.” She said as she hesitated for a moment. She was unsure of herself and she hated it, she gave a soft huff before picking up the carrot and moving into his burrow placing it before him before backing up to a respectable place and hunkering down. It was a bit chilly; winter was clearly reaching its cold fingers across the land. The deep laceration on her neck had healed some, though it was still a ragged wound, that would clearly scar, for the most part it looked better.

“I wanted to say thank you… for saving me.” She stated her tones soft but firm, there wasn’t a quiver there. She was no timid little doe, by any means. “I heard what happened to you, it was either a very brave or very foolish thing to do.” Her voice held a note of amusement perhaps? It was hard to discern in the soft tones. “Anyway I figured since you could use with some good food. Help you build your strength back up.” She said and it was clear that even though she seemed sure of herself she was feeling just a bit awkward. If her hunkered down stance near the entrance of his burrow was anything to go by.

"All I do is sleep." It was the truth and he was tired of it, but it really was for the best. The worst parts, though, were when he dreamed. Sometimes he heard that doe scream - the one that had her head bashed in with a bat. He couldn't fathom what would possibly make a farmer attack his own rabbits, but he was eternally thankful that sad though it was, at least it wasn't one of their own. If he had lost any on his team, he wasn't sure he would be able to live with himself.

He seemed to visibly brighten somewhat at the site of the carrot that she brought to him. Up to this point the only real visitors (and gifts) he had received were his sister, Dogsbane, grass, and those herbs he loved oh so much. The carrot reminded him that he was hungry, his appetite was returning, and his nose twitched as he sniffed at it. It smelled delicious.

"Thanks... It was probably both, but at least it worked. How is your neck?"

"I know you never meant to do,
all the things you put me through.
It's ok I forgive you."

"Your body needs it." Was the soft retort as she smirked at him. Her little tail wiggled slightly as he sniffed the carrot and seemed to approve. She wasn't sure what he had had to eat last or if it had been anything worth eating. She honestly didn't know much about the Owsla buck at all come to think of it. She knew a few vague rumors, like that the grey runner was a fan of his. That he had a sister, but no kittens of his own, and that he could be a bit prickly. This wasn't like a well of information to draw on.

She wondered vaguely if any of the rumors she had heard about Dogsbane and Ginkgo were true, she wasn't into gossip really, not like Hain was. She had really learned all her gossip from him truth be told so she wasn't sure how much of it was actually centered in fact. Wasn't like she much cared anyway, whatever the case may be. She settled herself down more comfortably before her ears flicked forward at the question.

She gave an amused little nose wiggle. "Probably was yes." She mused before she fell silent for a moment. Her shoulders rolled and she looked off to the side. "It hurts, it will scar no doubt." She gnashed her teeth slightly, still so irritated with herself for being so stupid. "It was a stupid mistake, I knew better. That is the thing, I knew better and still I moved. That might be what hurts most of all, was that I put others at risk due to my own stupidity." She gave a soft grumble and huffed. "But there was just this... wrongness about everything. No dog, no cats, no noise..." She huffed and sighed. "Was it even worth going back the second time around?" She asked though the question wasn't really meant to be answered. She doubted Ginkgo knew the answer to that any more than she did.

Of The Epidemic

"True, but that doesn't make this burrow any less stifling and as much as I gripe about it sometimes, I miss patrol." He very much approved of the carrot, but he nibbled at it slowly. Everything he did seemed to be slow to the point of exaggeration, but he didn't dare move faster. If it did anything to verify the rumors floating around the buck, his burrow certainly did have Dogsbane's scent in it. The runner often sat with him, doting over him while he healed. Even before, it was hard to get the energetic buck to give him some breathing room. It was twice as hard, now.

"Awell, at least I lived through it, yeah? And no one else died. A few scrapes and bruises..." He left off the bit about the brained doe. He didn't feel like talking about that at the moment.

His faint grin dissipated as she began speaking about her mistake. It was just that, a mistake.

"Don't take it so hard. It was your first raid, am I right? You're still alive and no one on our team died. It was a mistake, yes, but rabbits make mistakes all the time. It can be difficult to keep a clear head when snared. Many rabbits fight against the wires until the Black Rabbit claims them." He wasn't quite sure how to answer her question right away, but he had his thoughts on the matter for sure. Little came of the second raid. It was as though all hell had broken loose. Maybe they should have expected it, but hindsight is always 20/20.

"We did get some flay-rah, but not enough for it to truly be worth it. What we need is Frith's blessing and a bit of luck. We need actual flay for the down and a raid or two won't fix that completely."
