Mai had a rather normal childhood, living with her parents, helping them out with they work, learning some ninja arts from them, playing with friends from school. Her mother a distance relative of the Aburame clan from the Leaf, and still upheld the tradition of implanting they children with bugs, so Mai has been a nest for bugs sense she was little. Her father would tell Mai stories about her great grandparents, and how they were amazing ninja in they day, and while both of them were amazing ninja, but always dreamed of having a normal life, and they become her heroes and wanted to be just like them when she gets older. Now that she has come of age, following a tradition of her family, she has been sent to the to the Sound village ninja academy, and learn to become a ninja.

After moving to the Sound a strange shyness has come to Mai, after thinking on it, she believes that it is because of her unease in the new location, an the change that had been happening to her body, because of this she has been working on getting over the shyness. Due to this she has had some trouble relating to her other classmate, and hopes to get to know them better, she has resolved to get to know them, now that a month has past and she is a little more comfortable. Also during the past month Mai has been working on turning up to class on time, and hasn't been late more then a few times, also after the failure at the knot tying exam, she still has to resit, Mai has been working on her robe skills.

The Abruame Clan is most widely known for it's association with bugs. Once a member is born the bugs are allowed to feed the subjects chakra allowing thousands of bugs to live inside their body, and in return protect that body they are living in. Which results in the host being able to use bugs to attack.
