It was much a normal day for Nicholas. Just another trip to the Wardwood to collect a few trees, nothing big. Maybe scout out some for later dates, commit them to memory. He had a few orders for tables and chairs, but not many for smaller items. He supposed since Christmas had gone by, the orders for smaller toys would be far gone, with only the occasional order as a reward or present. This still wouldn't change his need for wood. He was running rather low recently...

He finally found one of the trees he had scouted out 3 months prior, and took out his saw. Now for the careful part, cutting it down. He began to look around it, trying to figure out which way would be the best to preserve its natural beauty...He didn't often take from the Wardwood, but desperate times called for desperate measures....And he also was getting paid a lot for these particular pieces. They needed a higher quality of wood.

Finding no immediate way, he sat down on a nearby log, looking the tree over. Hmmm....How to do it?

Thanos was not racing through the Wardwood and he was not searching for a human who would possibly help. He was merely taking a jaunt through the woods and if he happened to run into a human, well, then he'd just go for a little...walk with said human. And the walk wouldn't be leading anywhere in particular. At least, that's what Thanos staunchly told himself as he thundered through the forest.

Like a black shadow, Thanos ran, pretending that he wasn't even the tiniest bit worried about that idiot Kian. It had all been in good fun and it wasn't Thanos' fault that Kian had come into the woods looking for him. Thanos' couldn't help but wanting to be alone after having been paired with such a weak chosen. And weak Kian was...and small, gods, so very small, at least to Thanos. When that dead-fall had collapses atop his chosen, Thanos had been going to least things at that, but then, Kian hadn't been moving after that and Thanos had scented something strange. Even after he'd nibbled on the human, Kian hadn't even stirred.

That's why Thanos was pretending he wasn't going to look for help after not being able to move the tree that had trapped Kian in the dirt.

Thanos was just contemplating heading all the way back to Kian home to fetch his butler when he nearly trampled a human who looked to be staring at the tree. Grinding to halt, Thanos chuffed in irritation, his massive chest heavy as he took in deep breath. He bared his teeth at the human and stomped his hoove before he (gently) butted the human, urging the lazy fool to get to his feet.

And so began Nicholas' first encounter with a guardian. Nicholas wasn't at all used to running into bucks or does, especially not those of such unusual coloration, and ones that bared their teeth at him. This one, he realized, was much different. It wasn't just any buck. It was a guardian.

But Nicholas was recovering from his near death experience with Thanos, and slowly got to his feet, not about to die by a buck. That would lead to many laughs from the people of Oldcastle, he was sure. Killed by a buck? Really? Nicholas wasn't quite sure he wanted to tussle with this one either....Those scars said enough.

At the gentle butting, he watched the buck carefully, on his feet. What did it want from him?

Thanos lost patience with the human. The man didn't move fast enough and it would be just his luck to find the only man in the woods without a brain. Huffing unhappily, Thanos chomped the hem of the man's shirt and started dragging in him through the woods, uncaring of how fast he was going or if the human was uncomfortable. Kian was the one who was in trouble and it had been mostly Thanos' fault. He hadn't meant to lead Kian on a chase that ended with the man beneath a pile of logs. It had just happened.

In the mean time, Kian had groggily come to, discovering that one of his legs had been pinned by the dead fall. He felt bruised and achy and his ribs twinged when he moved, though he didn't think they were broken. Groaning, he started to struggle, trying to wiggle out from beneath the fallen tree.

Nicholas shouted at being drug along by the buck, though did his best to keep up. Where was he taking him anyway? Was he going to be part of some ritualistic human sacrifice in the name of the tree gods? Oh he hoped not. He tried to leave many trees to grow, and didn't take unless he needed to...

However, when the guardian finally stopped, Nicholas found himself staring at a man, pinned down by a tree. In a little bit of a panic, he immediately began to work at trying to lift it. Even though he was unsure of whether Thanos would understand him or not, he tried.

"I need you to drag him out when I get it up, okay?" He called, attempting to lift it as best he could. Little by little, it began to lift up off of Kian, Nicholas straining to lift it higher.
