Ah video games. One thing Alex liked more than dance, reading and writing combined. She stood bent over the "$5 and under" rack, fighting with her hair to stay out of the way while she flicked through the games. There was never really anything good in the rack, but occasionally she found a hidden gem.
Today was not one of those days.
The black and purple haired young woman huffed, scanning over the titles one last time. The specific game she wanted was no where to be found. Titans damnit.
She stood up and almost stepped straight into a girl with vibrantly pale green hair.
"Oh! My bad. Totally didn't see you there," she said, slightly embarrased at her lack of noticing the other person.

She was going to do it today. She had saved a little bit of money each week for over two months, and today was the day she was finally going to buy that first person shooter…and just not let her grandmother find out. It wasn’t a lie, per say…but it was still giving Juni that horrible twisting feeling in her stomach as though it was.
The green haired girl sighed and clutched the game tightly in her hands…then almost ran into another girl. “No, no, I wasn’t looking where I was going. Sorry about that.” She gave a little laugh. “Are you looking for anything specific…? I mean, I don’t work here or anything…but I know the store pretty well and…I don’t know. If you wanted help…”
Oh god. Now she was rambling off to strangers. Her grip on the game tightened. She wasn’t going to just give it up because she had started talking to someone.
…Even if her nerve was fading quickly.

She gave the teen a smile. "Sort of, but it's been so long since it came out, I think it's a lost cause." Green eyes flicked down to the game in the girl had in her hands. "FPS huh? I'm no good with them, myself. I tend to miss or run straight through the enemy in multiplayer!" Alex gave her a encouraging smile.
"I'm Alex by the way, player of all things roleplaying, strategy and adventure. Annnd some MMOs," she said with a charming sort of smile that belied the actual awkwardness she felt. Hey, anyone would feel awkward all but running a poor stranger over. Especially a cute one with awesome hair.

Juniper nodded. She knew what that felt like. It seemed like most games that were any good required the internet to purchase. “And…yeah. My grandmother doesn’t allow me to play them. She thinks that I’ll start getting crazy ideas and try to shoot up my school or something. But in reality, all I want to do is put some led through some zombie brains…is that too much to ask?” She sighed, then gave a little smile. “I’m Juniper. It’s nice to meet you…and yeah. Normally I play MMO’s or roleplaying games too. Basically anything that looks…uh…cute so my grandmother doesn’t throw a hissy fit.”
She tucked a lock of green hair behind an ear and shrugged. “But…what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her, right? I mean. I’m almost eighteen. She can get over it…and it isn’t lying to her if she doesn’t find out.”

She chuckled. She sympathized with Juniper; she too had gone through the unfortunate "you're too young for this!" stretch of time where she had to play the more popular games at her friends' houses. Or smuggle it in during the night. Not the best way to keep a regular sleeping schedule, but she was a gamer.
Gamers had no regular sleeping schedules.
"Well no, but buying that without someone eighteen or over is going to be a bit of a pain. They've cracked down on the whole "selling M-rated games to minors" thing lately," she said, glancing at her through her hair. Alex smirked and plucked the shooter from her grasp.
"You can pay me back later, ya?" With that she made her way into the line with a swish of purple and black hair and mischievous green eyes.

The girl opened her mouth to say something, then sighed, settling into a pouty poker face. Well. That hadn’t been something she had even thought about. She mostly looked over eighteen, and she had been hoping that they just wouldn’t check her ID or anything like that. But now that Alex had mentioned the whole crackdown on purchasing games, it seemed like her whole plan was going to just go up in smoke.
Well damn. Now she’d never get to play…or at least…that’s what it seemed to be until the dark haired girl snatched the game from out of her hands and. Well. Maybe she would get to play it after all.
“Hey! Alex, that’s not cool…I…” She followed the girl into line and tugged on her hair, her pout growing. “I’ll pay you back when we’re outside. I’m not really one who likes things like this…but well…thanks.”

Alex chuckled, grinned like made at Juni. "Anytime!" she said, nudging the other girl slightly with her shoulder. The line moved along and she stepped up to the counter.
"I thought you didn't come here outside of your shifts?" said the guy behind the counter as she handed him the game. Alex rolled her eyes.
"I only say that so Sherly doesn't get all butthurt when I don't come in outside of my shifts. Besides, I'm here as a customer today, because I felt like and this is the fourth store I've been to." The guy eyed Juniper for a moment before ringing up the game.
"Still looking for that game aren't you? ID." She pulled out her driver's license for him.
"Always." She swiped her card and he gave her the game.
"All yours Alex. Enjoy!."
"Thanks." She grinned at Juni and made her way to the door.

Juniper followed, seeming just slightly self conscious. Well…this was unexpected and rather sweet. And hey…now she could finally try a first person shooter without any judgement from anyone…and even if she sucked at it, it wouldn’t matter because it was just her and her game now.
She grinned at Alex and nodded. “Thank you so much. I really had forgotten about the dumb age rule…but…I don’t know. I almost feel like I should have been able to get it myself. I can see R rated movies now, after all.” The green haired girl shrugged and then sighed, tugging her wallet out when they were a few good paces from the store. “How much was it? I have the money here.”
Maybe she’d get a phone number out of this…and the two could…
“Hey, do you maybe want to hang out sometime and try this game out with me? It might be fun..you know?”

She handed over the game with a smile. Alex snorted and held up a hand when Juni opened her wallet. "It's on me. Think of it as a gift from one gamer to another," she said, continuing to smile. She inwardly chuckled. Juni was just kind of adorable and she wondered how more adorable the girl got while playing video games. Wasn't every day she ran into a girl gamer around her age.
She pretended to looking like she was thinking about it and then pulled out her phone.
"That would be awesome. I work tomorrow and the day after, but maybe the day following that? I'll give you my phone number and you can text or call me when you wanna hang out?" said the purple haired teen, thumb flicking over the screen of her phone to pull up the window to enter in a new contact.
She was now excited to get through the next few days of work.
