Appearance: Thistle loves being a nightshade because humans find her exotic. She loves to flaunt it. She only ever wears fisherman's pants and a wrap-around belt. No shoes, no knickers, no bra and no shirt. With her dark skin and eyes, it's not like she'll ever get sunburnt. She loves rubbing oils into her skin. She loves to know that if people touch her she'll be silky smooth. The scars she's gained throughout her years as a pirate just make her even more of an enigma (in her opinion).
Thistle's skin and eyes are blacker than the night sky. It's almost as though she absorbs all the light that touches her body. It keeps her nice and toasty through the winter months. She's slight in stature but with enough curves to know she's fully matured... at least physically speaking. Sometimes the air in her causes her to behave in ways that would make others of her kind groan in frustration. Her hair is long enough to just cover her nipples but most of the time she has anything that would cover her face clipped up in loose curls. The back dangles free about her back and flies about as she darts around or fights. How she loves to fight. It's the most exciting game imaginable.
Name: Thistle Dimitri Kayla Nibb
Age: Even though Thistle has only lived fifteen-and-a-half years, her species has a shorter lifespan so they age faster. Her age (or apparent age) is twenty. This does not make her a child. It's more like how one human year is seven dog years. A dog is mature at about two-years-old.
Biography: Thistle is a nightshade from an alpine forest somewhere in north-eastern Russia. She's lived a very normal life in terms of nightshade expectations. She spent the first few years of her life at her mother's side before being left to roam amongst the herd. A nightshade herd can roam several square kilometres of forest and it is the duty of everyone in the herd to keep an eye on children's movements. Obviously it is not as secure as having a family living in a single domicile so fatalities do happen. It's nature's way of ensuring only the strongest, fittest (in terms of ability to survive rather than physical prowess) and wiliest survive.
By the time they reach physical maturation most nightshades only have vague memories of their birth mother and rarely know who their birth father. Instead, they consider a family to be those who are closest to their heart. A mother is anyone who helps take care of you and a father is anyone who watches over others in the herd. Brothers and sisters are whomever you spend most of your childhood playing with. There are no husbands or wives as such, only lovers. There is no eternal or soul mate. In fact, their language has no for eternity or forever. The thought of having one lover for the rest of a person's life sounds ridiculous to them. How can one say they will still love that person in years to come? People change over time so who is to say that change won't cause them to drift apart?
There was only one remarkable distinction between Thistle and her kin: the strength of the air in her soul. Each species is believed to be ruled by one of the elements. Nightshades say they are ruled by the element of blood, though this in itself is disputed. They are certainly not ruled by air, which is what Thistle seemed to display so much of. She was so flighty and often wondered far beyond the herdlands. She did not seem to make as deep a connection with her kin as other nightshades did. It was certainly bizarre when she announced she would discover the rest of the world, though to say it was surprising would be naive. She was cautioned against it but Thistle's itchy feet got the better of her. One night, with little more than a woven bag of supplies, she disappeared from the forest for good.
For many years young Thistle travelled with pirates, private aeroplanes and backpacked through the parts of the world long forgotten to many humans. In the few years she saw more wonder than most people did in a lifetime. Everywhere she went this little lass from a pocket of a Russian forest went, her eyes were wide with wonder and her mouth ajar. The world was truly a miraculous place. Oh, what wonder there was to behold. When the invitation to visit a mysterious castle came to her through such obscure means, it was impossible for Thistle to refuse.
Personality: Her ruling element is blood, her major element is air and her minor element is water. This means she is a mix of carnal, companionable, honest, free spirited and tends not to stay in the same place for very long. It's why she chose to become a pirate. She gets to go wherever the wind takes her while still belonging to a close-knit "family". She also gets to get a bit of action when they attack people. Unlike those with fire as their major element, Thistle tends to think of fighting as more of a game than her more passionate fellows. She even tends to throw jokes between her companions while fighting or pulling naughty tricks to confuse her opponent.
Abilities/Powers: As a nightshade, Thistle has a few race based powers but no extra magical powers. She can disappear and reappear in a cloud of black soot, see in the dark and is poisonous. Her kiss can make people's eyes dilate (causing night vision), making out with her causes hallucinations and having sex with her is usually deadly. When she's attacked her blood leaves black stains on wood and is nigh impossible to scrub off.
Miscellaneous: For the moment Thistle is just passing through. She may become a master or pet later.
