Gula took her time lapping up the water from the swollen river. Last she checked, there weren't any others around. The only thing that kept her company was the sound of insects doing whatever it was insects did. Most of the time they just annoyed her. She had no idea why such creatures needed to exist. After satisfying her thirst, not like it was hard to do so during the rainy season, she looked up the banks for a reasonable spot to rest. At the moment she was traveling. She wasn't sure why she kept moving but there was a sense that she was looking for something or someone. Still, she wasn't in a rush. Her paws dug into the dried up mud as she walked along to find a reasonable tree to rest under.

It was a sunny, dry day, and Nyota was wandering, looking for shade, water, or both. she put her paws on the hard, dry ground, and a klipspringer bounded across her path, which she quickly killed and picked up into her mouth. across from her, she saw a small pool of water. running over to it, excited to see it, hoping it wasnt just her mind. getting closer now, Nyota realized she wasn't crazy, the water really was there, and so was the shady tree. if only she could share it with someone, anyone could use what she had right now. she sighed, and put her klipspringer to the ground to lap up the water. it was warm, but it quenched the thirst. she finsihed drinking, and walked ove towards the tree. she plopped her boddy down and a cloud of dust clouded around her. he lied her meal in front of her and took a bite of it. it was tough, but she was hungry, and it would satisfy her for now.

Gula sighed with contentment as she noticed a tree with a reasonable amount of foliage on it. Sometimes it was hard to find trees with enough leaves to create shade but she tended to avoid rocks. For some reason, all the cats liked rocks. She slowly made her way to the tree with a smile upon her face. It was almost too late when she noticed the lion. She had been so damn busy staring at the tree that she had nearly walked right into what she assumed was the waiting jaws of a hungry lion. It was eating and her eyes grew big. There was fear and a touch of hatred. Many times had she had to run from one of them. Hyena killers, that's what they were. She didn't know why either. What had she ever done to them. Gula bared her teeth in a snarl. The lion would likely be able to catch her if she ran but she still had to think of an escape plan.

the snarl had startled her, and she looked up from her meal. It was a dog, and she was wondering why she was snarling so much at Nyota, maybe she was about to take away her meal "umm..." it just came out she backed away and took the meal with her, sweeping it behind her, and reading herself for a fight if needed.
She hoped that wouldnt happen.
She wasnt good at fighting, and she doubted this hyena could really fight either, she was just being this way because...Nyota didnt have a clue why, but maybe if this didnt turn ugly, she would find out.

Confusion crossed Gula's face. This lion was acting weird. Was it trying to toy with her? Why would it say umm? Why did it back away? There were so many questions going through her head that for a moment she kind of let her guard down. It was very clear to anyone who could observe her that she was momentarily confused. The expression on her face said it all. Gula blinked at the lion, brows drawn in thought. Then she looked at the meal that the lion had pushed behind it. A thought came to her, though it went against all she knew. Maybe the lion felt like Gula would try to steal her food? But lions were ruthless creatures, why would it feel threatened by her? "Why do you not attack me lion?" She had to know and she was not one to be subtle.

Nyota cocked her head in confusion. "why would i?" she asked back. after all, Nyota hadnt done anything to her. so what would be the point to attack some dog out of the blue? She carefully laid in the spot she had stood in and pulled the rest of the carcass and took another bite, and chewed while she waited for the hyena to talk again.

Gula cocked her head, mimicking the lion. The lion seemed a bit more relaxed, less tense. That was more like the lions she had met in her youth. Confident and sure that they were so much better than a hyena. It wasn't the actions that threw her off, it was the question. "Why wouldn't you? Isn't that the nature of your kind, to kill hyenas? Many times as a pup I had to run for my life away from a lion." The words were said with such heat. Gula's fur was raised as she sifted through her memories. Those were the worst times of her life.

Nyota know understood why she was so hostile. "well, im not like that, im not even a very good fighter..." she was still a little worried she would get attacked, but she shouldnt, maybe if she was calm, this hyena would also be calm. she didnt know for sure, but it was worth a try.
She just hoped the hyena would come to understand that Nyota really wasnt like that, and she was kind, and would never kill, unless it really came to that, and it never would.

Understanding dawned on Gula. No wonder she hadn't been attacked. This was a weak lion, one that probably didn't normally kill because it just wasn't skilled enough. She had never run into one before. Clearly it knew how to hunt, but hunting was completely different from attacking something that could attack back. It all made sense to her now.
She swiveled her head around. Now that she was no longer afraid, she wanted that shade. "I'm not like your kind so I won't attack you. I was merely looking for someplace out of the sun to rest." Gula was good at running and escaping so if the lion did attack her, she'd put her skills ahead.

"alright, are you hungry? i'd be happy to share" she smiled kindly and took a few more bites of her meat if it was about to leave her, even though her stomach was now satisfied, and there wasnt much left.
a bird flew overhead, and Nyota looked into the sky. it was midday, and Nyota was wondering if she should just sleep where she was for the night "i would have to see if this hyena stays or goes, im not sure if shes totally friendly, if she got the chance, would she kill me or hurt me?" she shook the thoughts from her head and decided it was best not to think about hurt and death at the moment.

Gula was taken aback. This was a strange encounter for her. No lion had ever offered to share anything with her. In fact, she considered it luck if a lion just ignored her. "I'm fine." Not like there was much meat left but she wasn't particularly comfortable with the situation. "I think I'll go rest in that shade over there." She pointed with her paw to a tree a bit away from the lion. Not like she'd truly be able to rest knowing a lion was around but at least she'd be able to sit. The whole time she had been standing. "Don't worry lion. I won't attack you. I have no desire to be injured."She gave a stiff nod, about the closest thing she could get to being friendly, before heading toward said tree.

"alright then..." she then stopped talking for now and finished off her meal. getting up to drag off the remains some place else. finding a good spot, she thanked whatever god would here thanks, and walked off back to the tree. the sun was setting, and she decided one final drink from the tiny pool would do, then she would rest her eyes.
Laying back down, she stretched out her legs and and yawned. she didnt really know what made her feel so tired, but she was tired, so to close her eyes, it would be good.
she dreamed of a place to call home, and it made her smile in her sleep. Chun Chun Boom one last post and we can finish it p if you want :3

Gula lay down in the dirt under the tree, taking comfort in the tufts of grass that managed to grow near it. She watched the lioness for quite some time. There was a lot to think about. Did lions who weren't good at fighting simply not attack others because of that reason? Or were there actually lions that didn't want to kill her? She tilted her head, her eyes following the lioness to the water and back. It wasn't long before the one she watched fell asleep. Gula let out a sigh. Now she could really relax. She guessed that the lion really wasn't going to attack her. Rolling her shoulders to ease her tense muscles, she slowly lowered her head down to her paws. It wasn't long before she too drifted off into sleep.
