Today had been pretty good so far. The Hatching had left the rather pretty, dark-haired candidate with a sour taste in her mouth, and a distinct disdain for most of the other candidates in the weyr yet again. This morning had started slowly, getting up, braiding her long hair out of her way, trying to keep the dark ebon strands from Dash's grip....The little blue only pissed her off even more. Her duties were more important than this silly little blue that thought himself a bird. Making her way out of her room, Dash flitted ahead of her, the blue chasing away from his owner, only to have her call him back with sharp words. Her feet fell quietly against the floors, her movement absolutely unheard. She liked the silence at this hour. She also liked that most of the other Candidates knew not to bother the sour 16-year old.
Dash was proving to be a nuisance, however, flying fast ahead of his owner. The little blue loved adventuring, and loved getting people to allow him to mess with their hair. He was chirruping and squeaking at Sei to get her to move faster. He was intent on getting her further through the weyr today. Further than they've ever gone. Rushing further ahead still, Dash found himself bumping into someone. This drew a loud screech from him, and he blinked a few times, confused.
"DASH! Shard it...get back here you insufferable flit...." She mumbled, following after him as she spotted him running into a person.....Oh shards and shells....

It wasn’t exactly how she expected the hatching to go, turn and turn again she had stood and failed to Impress. Never had she actually expected to impress, she didn’t see herself as the sort of person to become a dragon rider and yet that was precisely what she was now. The morning had started just like they always did, there was almost no difference between her candidate chores and her tasks as a weyrling, she had Sloth to feed and oil but besides that there was only slight differences in her schedule.
‘Mine,’ nasally groused the bright-skinned blue from behind heavy lids, snorting with dejection Sloth forced his ridges to rise up and with the action pried open his content lazy eyes, a moment passed as his groggy stare wavered between being focused and blissfully askew before he smacked his snout open and closed in the most deployable of wet sounds. ‘You have a little me coming at you, my love. I don’t recall learning to fly though; shall I tell Girth we need him to eat the little thing? Oh--- look its person is coming this way to fetch it. That is lovely of her. Isn’t it? Bah, we should be back in bed Qui, back in bed nice and toasty, carry me please, my toes hurt.’ Letting out a loud dragonic version of a yawn Sloth fell forward onto the ground, sprawling out exactly where he once stood suddenly far too exhausted to make a movement further, he simply had to rest that very moment or he would just die.
Rubbing long, layered bangs from her slightly tanned face Quindrife couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose at the babbling of her hatchling, the grin that pulled at the edges of her face added to the confused expression that flooded into her eyes, what was he talking about, a little him? She just didn’t get it. The loud screech and solid thud of a little scaled body slamming against her back made the ramblings of her listless blue make perfect sense. A firelizard! Jerking her hands upward Quindrife scooped the little frantic creature into her calloused hands and pressed him firmly against her flat chest. “Shhh, there, there, it is okay little one. No need to be scared----“ wait didn’t Sloth say something about a human---- oh shards! Blinking with round, stormy grey hues the towering weyrling staggered back slightly until her feet came to a halt against the shiny oiled tummy of her blue partner. “Sei---Sei---Seikih---- “ she nervously squawked then held the firelizard outward. “This little screaming comet must be yours.” The comment fell off of her lips feebly and the falsetto gruff tone of her voice tightened into a broken pitch that came out feminine and odd.

The first thing that Seikih noticed was the small blue dragon on the floor. Oh....That was the lazy one from the lot, wasn't it? The one that seemed that it had better things to do than run around. Her lips pulled into a frown, and then she looked up once more, looking at Quindrife before her. It seemed that Dash had found a new friend. The little blue chirruped happily when he was held in her arms, and he gently grabbed her hair in his small paws. He used this grip to wriggle into the other female's hair, out of her hold, and nested himself in it, drawing a heavy, irritable sigh escaping the young woman. What a dim flit she had. Those silvery eyes blinked up as Quindrife began to speak to her, a single, dark brow raising as the other almost squeaked. Huh.... "...Yes. That would be mine. I am sorry for his behavior." She murmured quietly, tucking a bit of dark hair back.
She'd heard of the other before, seen her once or twice on Candidate duties, and in the girl's mind, she was better than most of the idiots that she had to deal with on a daily basis. Quieter, more sensible....even if she'd gotten one strange dragon, "It's Quindrife, right?" It was the most she'd ever said to any one person when she wasn't snapping at them. Shortly after she'd asked this, the girl's eyes turned back down to the blue, a small smile curling her lips, "Is he tired still." Dragons were her favourite creatures in the whole world. They were such magnificent things, offering people an option to get closer to the skies, to fly with them...Anyways. Shaking her head, she looked back up to the other woman, her lips flicking back into that small frown, "I...Dash seems to have chosen to nest in your hair.."

A wiggle here, a carefully placed paw there and the little blue was up and into her already tangled mass of brown locks, really the situation was fairly amusing though the grim expression that the starcrafter wore kept the mirth that the taller girl felt from showing in her demeanor. Troubled gray eyes stared back unblinkingly into the silvered depths of Seikih’s hues, each movement that the dark-haired female made caused heated fluttering to scratch at the pit of her stomach like a volcanic riptide of boiling nerves and emotions. Physically pulling her gaze away from Seikih’s face and avoiding her body all together Quindrife gave a gregarious nod.
“Yes, Quindrife, that is I. Ah, no need to apologize for him. He seems friendly, well acclimatized to human contact. You did a good job with him in that regard,” turning her attention towards Sloth the muscularly framed brunette knelt down and ran her palms across his massive wings that where limply draped along the ground. “He is always sleepy, I have to fight him tooth and nail with everything that we do. He doesn’t even like having to chew his food, he wants me to do it for him half of the time but I won’t have any of that. He is able bodied and I won’t have him being a lump for the rest of his life. I had hoped,” twisting her jaw over her shoulder the strong-figured tomboy eyed the candidate girl with tenderness glinting in her pale gray hues. “I had hoped you would have Impressed with me, it was a cheap trick what Igen did at the hatching. They had no right to take away dragons from rightful Fort candidates. You will make a wonderful rider one day---- oh it seems he has.” Quindrife’s thoughts broke away from coherence as she commented on Dash nesting in her hair, truly with how the Hatching went the girl wasn’t happy, yes she was grateful that she had Sloth but overall the entire event was horrible especially the fact that Zofer had Impressed and now out ranked her--- the mere mention of his name made her body tense and her knuckles grow white. He was a bronze rider and she was nowhere in the same league, never before had she wanted to not be at Fort as she did now.

Seikih sighed, "His social nature has nothing to do with me, to be honest. He grew up sleeping by my head, and quickly took to nesting in my hair as it was down. The issue is, now that he's full grown, he's learned how to filch hair ties from unsuspecting candidates." Rubbing her temples, she watched as Dash screeched at her from his perch in Quindrife's hair. Such an agitating little thing...How he'd chosen to stay with her, the young woman would never know. Dash was the most infuriating little flit given to a Candidate...in the history of flits. This Seikih had decided. But out of anything, she was rather alright with the fact that he'd brought her to the only sensible person in this sharding pit of dragon dung and idiocy. Out of the lot of stupid people at the Weyr, Quindrife was not the worst.
When the Hatching was brought up, her nose flicked slightly...Though Quindrife's sincere hope that she had Impressed with her....This...seemed to take the young woman aback. She blinked twice, a small flush crosing those pale cheeks, and a look of utter confusion on her face. No one had...ever been so kind to her...and that warmth in those deep grays....What WAS that even? Why was she looking at her with any kind of fondness? It wasn't in Seikih's vocabulary to understand such things, "One of these days , I will Impress. I will become one of the strongest Riders, because that is the one truth..." And for a moment, her eyes changed, looking out at the wall, going dreamy, "....One day I will fly in the stars....see the skies and the weather from a closer vantage....I envy Dragon riders for that..."

That hopeful almost catatonic bliss filled expression didn’t go unnoticed by the tender she-behemoth, she knew that look all too well. Even now that she had Sloth she caught herself wearing the same daydream haze, Seikih wanted nothing more than to kiss the stars and the stratosphere and what she craved was still just a vision out in the distance.
“I have no doubt about that,” Quindrife stated her voice saccharine and hushed as she spoke towards the candidate beside her. It was the truth, genuinely it was, of all people in the weyr the pale complexioned beauty with eyes like silvered twilight was the one that had the most potential and would make the most heavenly of riders. Quindrife had seen that so very many times in the past, watching her from afar. Just like with stars, they didn’t need to speak to say volumes, they didn’t need to notice her to make her feel small in relation to their grandeur. Stuffing bandaged hands into the lined pockets of her trousers the blue-rider gave the wild little creature in her hair a slight toss. Growing up with a harper as a father Quindrife suffered through various things that the man considered jubilant fun one of which being a gold flit named Regina, hair had always been one of the things the queen fancied but unlike Dash she was more constructive rather than a nuisance though that training did take a long while to accomplish and wasn’t the easiest of tasks. “Envy isn’t a color that looks good on you, besides one day soon you’ll Impress. You will have a dragon of your own and you will fly higher than any of us.”
Clearing her throat with a shallow cough the gray-eyed tomboy shifted her weight and continued to stroke at the freshly oiled hide of her life-mate, unlike other dragons Sloth didn’t give a croon of pleasure or even seem to care that his partner was administering affection upon him, out of all of the dragons that she had ever seen or been near Sloth was the most apathetic creature she had ever met and as much as he completed her he didn’t fill the void of her soul like she thought he would. “You know I bet with a little devotion you could train Dash to pleat hair rather than tangle it, my father had a gold when I was growing up. She was the most irritating, infuriating, scaled dimglow of a beast but like any animal I put enough time into breaking her of her habit and I am sure I could teach your blue the same thing. I personally think you would look very striking with a braid.” The comment was hushed as if hiding in plain sight but the expression that Quindrife wore was bold and held a subtle hint of something almost impish to it, like a boast but without the arrogance. “Would you like to fly with me one day? When he learns to use his wings that is, it’s cold in the sky and I would love to be able to share that with someone that will appreciate it and not think the experience a right. Everyone here thinks they deserve a dragon but to be honest I don’t think but a handful merit that honor. You, you do, you aren’t like others. You don’t have to speak for me to hear you, your eyes tell me everything I need to know about you. You’re brilliant and I know you will Impress soon, yours just wasn’t in this clutch is all.”

The way that the other woman spoke to her. It was so strange, that the woman seemed so devoted to knowing her. It was almost as though Quindrife had a rather distinct interest in her...and the way those stormy eyes watched her...it was startling to the usually lonesome candidate. She wasn't used to the idea that someone would want to be with her....That someone would actually have care for her outside of her mother. She'd been so used to only really focusing on the woman after the way her life had changed...and so, the fact of the matter was that she had never expected to make a friend...or even have someone expressing interest in her. Taking a breath in, and letting it out, she seemed to lapse into thought, her fingers gently running across her plaited hair, teasing the twists of the braid as she schooled herself back to her normal nature. Breathing in, and letting it out, she found herself relaxing slightly. There...This was much better.
Breathing in once, and out once more, her gaze turned back to Quindrife and Dash, before she knelt slightly, and allowed her hand to carefulyl reach out and pet under Sloth's chin. He was a beautiful blue, "You give your Rider trouble, don't you, silly boy. You really need to think about that. After all, Yours is the one that feeds you and takes care of you." Seikih chided the blue softly, "What if you keep being a lump? What if she stopped oiling that pretty hide of yours?" She liked talking to the Dragon. Even if she couldn't hear him, she could still talk to the sharding creature. He was rather interesting, and honestly, even though he was being a lump, he would eventually develop himself into a proper Dragon for this girl, she had no doubt, "Or stopped feeding you. Honestly, you sharding silly hatchling, think about her too, hm?" Dash, seeing his owner paying more attention to another creature than himself, let out a small, indignant noise, screeching out. His claws disentangled from the other girl's hair, and he barreled out of his nest, tackling Seikih's chest and clinging to her shirt, grumbling in his own way.
The girl rolled her eyes, as he began to nuzzle her neck, and twine himself around her braid. Instead of burying himself in it, the flit carefully gathered the length of hair about him, claiming it rather intently for his own use. No other creature, not even a big, scary dragon, could have his Seikih's hair. He didn't want to let go. For the first time since she'd come to the Weyr, Seikih let out a small chuckle, a smile lighting her lips that held a warmth most never got to see...a warmth like a small candle flickering to life for the first time. It was honestly a fleeting thing, quickly fluttering away, and hiding behind that cool mask of indifference. "I...I would love to go up in the stars, Quindrife. I'm honored that you would offer. But of course, this is only if Sloth wants to, when he's big enough to fly. After all, this little one rather has his....capability. It just needs to be put the right way, am I correct?" She enquired, quietly.

It was curious watching the dark-haired girl breath in courage and exhale confidence, did Seikih even realize how gorgeous she was as she collected that stoic mask of elegance she wore and fastened it into place. Quindrife was humbled to even share the same air as the other female.
At the foreign warmth under his chin groggy half-lidded blue eyes fluttered open then settled into relaxed slits Sloth’s naturally tired hues seemed to have a content glossy shine to them as he focused his attention on the pale two-legger. ‘My rider is the one that gives her Sloth such great trouble. Qui-mine would never force hers to go hungry or mar my shinny hide with the flaky itch of negligence, she is much too vulnerable to suffer this world without my protection. She takes care of me now because I am soft and young but in time I will be much larger and I will keep her safe. I’m not silly, I’m a realist and practical, she gets me things that I want and need and when I am older I will do the same, granted not without complaint but I will regardless. The word is symbiotic. It’s a beautiful word. Mine is a clever girl, I fell in love with her for her mind, her strength of body was only a plus. She promised to take you into the sky, her word is our word, we will fly you into the stars.’ The voice that flooded into Seikih’s mind wasn’t that of a child as one might expect a hatchling to have but a deepened tone that was spoken in a sophisticated whisper, almost like a refined gentleman with a subtle feminine flare. To be simple Sloth sounded dapper and eloquent. Twisting the corner of his snout into a self-gratified smirk of sorts the blue shut his eyes once more then sank further onto the floor readying himself for a much needed nap.
“He really is too much isn’t he but there you have it. A promise. He might not remember it but I won’t forget that we will be your ferry. Erm--- so by chance are you hungry, lunch should be soon if we leave now we can get the good cutlets--- um and I can have you sit with me at the weyrling table, no one will say anything about it cause well--- I’ll deck them if they do.” Quindrife gave a laugh at the end of her sentence then brought her right hand up to snub the side of her nose, the tick was something that she always did when she was nervous and being around Seikih sure as the sun rose made her feel on edge.

When she felt the voice whisper in her head, those silvery eyes broke her composure again, and shone with awe...absolute delight and shock at the sound of Sloth murmuring to her. He assured her of His' strength, and that he was only allowing this for his own current convenience. The warmth of it was...amazing, but he kind of managed to irritate her slightly with the self-gratified tone behind his words. Like she was the foolish one for even suggesting he might not be able to take care of His, and Quindrife take care of Hers. This quickly brought the mask of irritation falling over her lips, those eyes narrowing. Stupid little thing....He had to be a sharding rude little one about it...but...He did promise that they would take to the stars some day. Her heart skipped a beat, and as she stood, she felt Dash bury himself a bit further into her braid. The tiny blue let his claws cling to her shirt, as she straightened herself, the small barrel of braid that Dash had made not even shifting as she turned back to wonder at what Quindrife was inviting her to.
Sit with the other Weyrlings? When she was just a candidate? Was that allowed? The idea of eating with those who'd impressed their Dragons already...It was a bit intimidating...but one day, she'd be with them, sitting in their Wing, flying with them on the back of whatever Dragon chose her to be Theirs. Well...At the very least she was hungry...and somehow...even though Quindrife had been able to get past her defenses a few times today, the young Candidate was willing to give her a chance...willing to give her a chance to have some time with the girl that no one knew. "You know...I am rather....peckish at the moment, I suppose. I could deal with getting something to eat." Her fingers tapped at her leg, a tick the girl had when she was unsure of how to deal with something, "I appreciate the inviatation, Quindrife....Thank you."

The cool velvet of Seikih’s tenor brought forth a wavering smile upon the towering brunette’s sun-kissed visage, pushing herself into an upright position Quindrife straightened to her full height and gave a very faint groan, her abs as lean and powerful as they were dully ached due to the fact that she had been carting around Sloth and all of his tubby glory for the last few days. Long willowy digits pushed into the tangled nest of brown locks that resided on her head, forefinger and thumb picked at the ratty mess of hair smoothing it back down into something resembling presentable after just a few moments of silence.
“You are more than welcome Seikih,” pleasantly stated the brunette before throwing a glance towards her blue deadweight. “Come on Sloth, I need you to carry your own forked tail this time buddy. Hauling you around is starting to give me bruises.” Allowing a faint chuckle to rumble in the back of her throat like a pacified mewl the mannish weyrling pushed the tips of her boots into the fleshy underside of her life-mate’s pudgy stomach. Grumbling with irritation Sloth tugged the tip of his wing towards his snout then hiked his stubby lower legs up in a vain attempt to scoot away from his rider’s bothersome interaction.
‘Nooooooooo,’ pitifully whined the lethargic blue as he extending his rump and back quarters then proceeded to inchworm across the floor a few more paces. ‘Go on without me, I can’t muster the strength to continue.’ With an exaggerated sound of defeat Sloth threw himself down into a prone position and gargled a swansong towards both women.
“Oh come on! You were literally born yesterday there is no way you are this exhausted you lazy git! Don’t give me that look,” she threatened half-heartedly when his big blue eyes turned to face her and his bottom jaw puckered and wiggled in some dragonic version of a pout. “No, absolutely not going to happ--- fine.” Sighing dejectedly Quindrife rolled her muscled shoulders then set to work at picking her spoiled blue from the passageway. Shifting his weight so that it was evenly distributed along her hips the powerfully built brunette staggered a few times as she attempted to gain balance then grinned broadly towards Seikih as she managed the odd task of carrying the hatchling. “He is a whole lot heavier than he looks.”

Seikih's silvered gaze watched the other woman's lifemate squiggle across the floor like an insect. Though she didn't know what he was saying, it was still highly amusing that he seemed to think that it would be THAT easy to get His to carry him....Or so she thought. The next thing that the pale Starcrafter Apprentice knew, the lazy blue was in Quindrife's arms, and he was being cradled as though an unruly small child. Her lips quirked in a tiny frown, and her head tipped to the side, watching this dance between lifemates that was....almost comical, if not for the sheer fact that the little Dragonet was so pudgy. Gently a hand reached out, stroking behind his horns, as she made a small face, "He seems like he would be heavy indeed." However, a thought struck her, and she spoke again, "What if you carried him like one would a child? Try bracing him on your hip with one arm as you walk. It might ease some of the weight from you." She smiled kindly.
Maybe it would help with the woman's heavy lifemate until he was so large that all she could do was have him walk. Eventually, Sloth would be unable to be carried...but for now, anything to make it easier. Honestly she was beginning to warm up to the taller girl...Quindrife was....quickly managing to attach herself to the stoic girl, "Now. Food sounds like a beautiful idea." Withdrawing her hand from the small one's head, she began to walk. her feet solid on the ground.
