The texts came with an attachment, a small set of maps that would lead them down through one of the less convoluted paths that end in the underground cave containing Merlin and Excalibur. At the bottom level, surrounding the two weapons, a number of hunters lay motionless on cots as others monitor them and write notes.

Dwight greets them by heading right to business, "So the other week one of the guards down here feel asleep on duty and had an extremely vivid dream. A few days later another guard does the same, and has a very similar dream to boot. By the time they notified the labs about this, half a dozen hunters had experienced this vivid dreaming. We're currently trying to get a wide range of results on this to get a clearer picture of what we might be dealing with in regards to..." his eyes slide to the glowing beacon of Excalibur and what lay in the shadows behind it.

Clearing his throat, the tech continues, "Anyway, the reason why I called you guys for this specifically, is because your superiors feel you may be ready for promotion to full hunter." Giving Melvin a judgmental squint, he adds, "Except the punk. But as for the rest of you, of the hunters who we've tested down here, all full hunters slept and woke safely, but trainees..." Suddenly one of the sleeping figures began to thrash and convulse, spilling violently out their cot as several medics rushed to assist them.

"Well, anybody without sufficient power, experience, weapon bond, or whatever, ends up having a violent seizure that leaves them recovering in the infirmary for a few days. So far it's been 100% accurate on this, so I figured we could multi-task here and use it as a sort of Dagobah, to see if you're really ready to be a hunter or not." Frowning a bit, he examines each of the Intermediates, "If you'd rather not risk, I won't blame you. But each of you have come up a bit lacking in one way or another in past reports, and this way you'd actually be able to prove your position beyond a doubt."

Intermediates: This will be a solo mission! You may use this thread or create a new one! You may choose to use this for a promotion mission or have your hunter opt out and wait until a later time!
Melvin: You get a slightly different spin on this!

Don't stress out about completing for the sake of stats for 7kings! If your hunters promo is still open, they can use the more advanced lvl stats for events.

Intermediates

I.

As you settle on your cot, a medic hands you a small cup of liquid. Drinking it causes you to fall asleep in a smooth but quick manner.

You open your eyes to darkness surrounding you and a sense of endlessly falling deeper and deeper into it until suddenly your feet hit a solid surface with a soft thud. Darkness peels up from the floor, revealing a glowing disc like a massive piece of stained glass. Within the image a stylized sword is embedded in a large stone, a frame of crystals surrounding it.

A voice, noble and kind, rings softly through the darkness, "Salutations, traveler. This is a dangerous path to travel for one such as you. I suggest you go prepared."

Three items appear before you, floating gently just within reach of your hands. Trying to hold two at once will cause you to collapse until you let go.

The Sword

You feel the power of strength an aggression running through your limbs.

"Oh, a fellow warrior, hmmm? Perhaps one day you might be as strong as I!" The voice begins to laugh jovially, "And he says I have no sense of humor."

The Shield
You feel steady and solid, the firmness of your defense surrounds you to the core.

"A protector, eh? Always useful folk to have around, taking the brunt of attacks as the warrior gets the real work done. Good on you!"

The Staff

You feel wild energy sparking along your mind, a heady and slightly dangerous presence.

"Mages." Somehow you can hear the voice rolling it's eyes, "Well, I'm sure you'll manage anyway."

As you settle on a weapon, it's form begins to twist and shift into something that more closely resembles your own weapon in it's style and runes. You cannot hear the weapon's voice, but it's presence provides a familiar thrum across your bond.

Just past the disc's edge, a small step appears, and then another, and another, until a stairway has formed, leading you away into the darkness.

"Go on, traveler. What you seek lay still ahead."

II.

The stairs lead up and onward until finally another disc appears, featuring the noble profile of a king, sword held high as others kneel before him. As you step onto the platform, small vibrations begin to fill the air a new voice murmurs silkily, "Failure is not an option, but success may cost you everything. Are you willing?"

Sinister, inky figures form and surround you, their clawed hands slashing through the air.

Battle!
Weapon HP: 60
Sword: Roll 2 d20 (subtract 12) for your damage!
Shield: Roll 2 d10 to defend from the auto attack. Subtract 8 for the amount of damage your defense causes!
Staff: Roll 3d6! If the first die is 1 or 5, they hit one target. If the first number is 2 or 4, they hit up to two targets. If it's 3 or 6, they hit up to three targets. The damage done is the second 2 dice - 4.

Roll 2 d4s! This is the amount of enemies that attack you!

2-4 enemies: they have 20 HP each! They auto attack (hit or miss) for 10 damage!
5-6 enemies: they have 15 HP each! They auto attack (hit or miss) for 6 damage!
7-8 enemies: they have 12 HP each! They auto attack (hit or miss) for 3 damage!

If your weapon breaks, you must go back down and grab one of the other ones. This gives you three chances.

III.

"Well, done," the new voice compliments with a certain edge of mockery, "...you can fight well enough against that which is without." The platform begins to crack and shatter, the steps all fall away, and once again you plummet into the darkness. Down, down, down you fall and when finally you land, you aren't met with stained glass scenery. No, there is glass, dusty with thin cracks spider-webbing along the edges. It's dim, and smudged with age, but beneath it you can just make out a sickly purple glow, throbbing softly in a rhythm that soon matches with that of your heart.

A voice whispers behind you, "So lets see what lies within."

You turn to find yourself staring back, but this is no mirror. The other you holds out their hand and your weapon, your real weapon, shimmers into their grip.

Battle!
This is RP only!

The doppelganger is a focus for all your hunter's faults, flaws, and insecurities. They hold within them all the doubts and fears that nag and plague your hunter. Its up to you as to how your hunter defeats them!

IV.

Upon their victory, your hunter will wake up. To finish this promo, simply fill out and post a mission report.

MELVIN

Dwight's mission for you is to gather data on the dreams of various hunters!
- interview other hunters about their dreams
- have them roll 1d10 to determine how useful the dream is
--- 1 being ridiculously useless
--- 10 being something thats close to the Intermediate's dream here, but much less vivid and only vaguely recalled in pieces
- add the rolls together!
- once you hit 30, collect Melvin's findings and post them in a mission report to complete his promo!

It took Before less time to arrive at the cave than he normally would have. Mostly in thanks to the attachment contained within the message, his time in Deus had him hone his skill of being able to read maps. Do or Die seemed to be the usual method of teaching and since he hasn't died yet, it was a method that obviously worked for him!

Then he actually got there and wondered what sort of Do or Die thing he was going to have this time. Dwight's explanation of things brought him to an all-time high then promptly knocked him back down a peg or two (or five) 8C This sounded like one of the weirdest promotion mission he'd ever heard of, but that might be because he didn't go around asking the other trainees and Hunters what they had to go through.

"Hey, sure, imma go take a nap, ain't like I wasn't put to prolonged sleep not too long ago~" he joked, then turned to those with him. "G'luck with you all!" he cheered, though his gaze lingered on Ofelia and barely registered Melvin. Ami got a wave and a thumb's up from him, though.

He moved on over to a cot, and downed the small cup of liquid quick as you please. He rested his head on the pillow and when his eyes closed, it wasn't long before he was out like a light.
