Kallo started waking up slowly the next morning; but as soon as he realised he was somewhere unfamiliar, he immediately opening his eyes as the memory of taking refuge from the weather came back to him.
The fire was dying down, and between that, the slightly ajar door, and the cold of the night which had yet to be chased away, the temple was chillier than they had found it the night before when seeking shelter from the weather. It wasn't cold enough to be very unpleasant; but it was enough to remind him of the warm house he hadn't managed to reach.
The aching of his belly was another reminder; he knew that there would only be dried food left out until the humans knew he was there but that would be enough. He knew a couple of places he may be able to scrounge up some more if he needed to; and since he may be sharing his food today...
He looked over at the younger Maneki Neko he'd been taking shelter with. He was alone as well; treated poorly for no reason other than the shape he'd been born into. It only seemed fair that he share some of what he had and knew to another who was alone in the world.
Kallo let out a yawn, and got to his feet before stretching out his striped body; savouring the stretch in his muscles and joints, before sitting down for a quick grooming session.

Zenko shifted slightly in his sleep during the night he had gone from laying down with his tails curled around him to curled up into a tiny ball. He shifted again this time pulling his tails over his eyes more, he didn't want to be awake yet, he still felt warm and soon the heat would die away and he would be left in the cold world.
Suddenly the young neko remembered that he had made a friend last night and was sleeping in a temple. He shifted his tails down a bit and peeked out over them when he opened his eyes. Delight slid into his features when he saw the older neko was still around. The Fox like neko had assumed the older would have left once it was morning, unless the weather was bad but even then they needed food.
In a flash Zenko uncurled his tail and had them be hind him as he shifted and got onto his feet. He let out large yawn before he started to stretch his twin tails fluffing out as he did so. He was careful not to accidentally scratch the temples floor with his claws as he stretched and soon shifted back into a normal standing position.
He bowed as he gave his thanks to Inari for letting them stay safly in her temple during the night. Satisfied with his prayer he drew his tails closer and begin to De-fluff them, before looking over at Kallo. "Good morning, Did you sleep well?" He asked cheerfully. "How is the weather? Is it still snowing out or has the storm passed?" He question curiously.

Kallo had half-watched Zenko as he go up, stretched, and started grooming himself; but he stopped his grooming and gave the younger male more of his attention once he spoke up. "The worst of it has passed. There's some snow out there-" he could see that some had blown in in the night, leaving a little half-melted wedge of snow at the slim gap the doorway offered. "But I don't know how much", he said half to himself.
There was one way to find out, of course, He got to his paws; stretching out his back legs for a moment before heading over to the doorway, peering out of the gap the door stop had left them. The snow was thick enough to completely cover the ground; and the occasional flake was still falling. But it didn't look deep enough to stop them from travelling- it was certainly less unpleasant than yesterday. The sky was an even grey, and Kallo didn't expect the snow to completely stop any time soon.
He headed back over to Zenko, speaking as he did so. "It's still snowing a little bit, but it doesn't look too deep. We'll be able to head out without any trouble." He assumed that the plan was to head out together; it didn't occur to him to mention his willingness to share his food, simply thinking that Zenko would have already reached the same conclusion he had.

"That's good" Zenko replied to Kallo's mention of how deep the snow was. "I would hate for it to be deep and hard to travel though as you walk to the house's you where going to." From the others muttering it seemed like it was on the other side of town or so, rather far to be walking in a blizzard or in deep snow.
It seemed that the person who was tending the fire had not come down during the night. He wondered if they where still around or not. As much as he would like to stay in the warm temple he needed food, and wasn't big enough yet to be able to close the door on his own. Witch mean that he would be leaving when the older male did. Hopefully he would find a place that was easier to get into after he got something to eat.
He stretched again before he wandered over and sat down by the door.

Kallo blinked in surprise at Zenko's words, before his forehead creased slightly in a frown. Apparently he had thought wrong- the younger male hadn't assumed they were heading out together. Unless he was just being polite and waiting for an invitation? He joined Zenko over by the door; peered out and looked up at the sky. The even cloud cover was enough to dispirit him and he let out a small sigh. If Zenko wasn't expecting an invitation, was it wise to invite him? But the other Maneki Neko was alone, and could probably use some help- especially in this weather.
He didn't look over as he spoke. "Well, you could come with me. I'm sure that would be fine."

Zenko too found the clouds dispiriting and the idea of being traped out side with them even more so. His hear perked up hearing Kallo's words the young Neko paused for a moment wondering if he had misheard what the other had said. "Really? If you're sure, I don't want to be a bother. But yes I would like that, Thank you Kallo."
His tails twitched excitedly at the prospect of going with Kallo, Not only would he be able to find food when he left. He had a warm place to stay after woulds and he got to hang out with his new friend.

Kallo kept his eyes averted at the gratitude and happiness of his younger companion. It didn't make him unhappy to witness it- possibly the opposite- but he wasn't sure how to react to it. He felt it was best to act as if he didn't see it; as though he were ignorant of the others' positivity at his very simple gesture.
“Yes, well... You're welcome. It shouldn't take too long to get there.” He stepped out through the door and into the snow. It was bitingly cold on the pads of his paws and he paused for a moment to adjust, looking down at the stairs. The snow went right up to the edge; and was thick enough at the back of each stair to cause them to look almost slope-like. Hopefully it wouldn't inconvenience them on their journey; and he faced the direction of the house they were heading to, ready to head out. He was strangely pleased not to be doing so alone- even though it was what he was used to and usually preferred.

Zenko smiled as he stepped out onto the porch of the temple, the ankle deep snow was cold. He hoped they wouldn't get frostbite or something on the bottom of their feet as they walked. He was relived when the older male stated that the house wasn't to far. The less they walked in the snow the less likely it was for one of them to get hurt. He thanked Inari for helping him find a friend so quickly.
He tentatively placed his paw on the first step and slowly moved onto it before finding where the next step was and moving onto it. It was a slow process but it kept him from falling flat on his face as he attempted to walked down the snow covered steps. He seemed to be clearing the steps he was on a bit as he went down the snow stuck to his stomach and tails and got dragged of the higher steps as he walked. His stomach was getting cold but at lest the path would be a bit clearer for Kallo, even if he hadn't intended to become a stair sweeper.
Getting to the bottom of the stairs Zenko shook the snow off, being careful not to his companion with the melting snow. he was glad the snow wasn't so tall on the roads.

Kallo stepped down the stairs with more surety and speed than Zenko; although the fact that he'd dislodged some of the snow and made it much clearer where best to step certainly helped. Kallo stopped as he made it to the bottom and looked back up the steps; his own pawprint occasionally visible through the swathe Zenko had left in the snow. He would have to remember this location, he decided. Just in case.
He set off in the opposite direction to the one they had approached from; despite the way the snow coated everything and turned the world into something strange and unfamiliar, he was still confident in where he was going. He spoke to Zenko as he walked through the snow; unable to remember what he'd said about the place he was going to, or if he'd said anything at all of substance.
"The humans probably won't be in... They leave an upper window open, it's a bit tricky to get to but it's not too bad. They should have left some food out- just dried biscuits and some water, but it's better than nothing."

Zanko padded behind Kallo as they walked towards the house that Kallo stayed at. His paws where starting to get cold from the snow. He was slight amused as he watched his breath come out in puffs of white air. The young neko nodded after kallo spoke. "Any food is better than none" He agreed. "Second story huh? How do you get up it?"

Kallo led the way briskly through the streets, leading the way to the house in question. "It's not too hard, really", he said in reply. "You have to climb onto the porch by the front door; then onto the windowsill above it. Then jump across to the other windowsill, where the window they leave open is. It's not a big jump, but it can be a bit nerve-wracking the first couple of times." He remembered doing it when he was a little younger than Kallo; and how he was sure he would fall. He never did, though- a human could do it (although he wouldn't trust their balance.)
"Here it is." He nodded to a house nearby; stately, with five windows on the front and another four visible on the side, but not large enough to be intimidating. And the front door was, as he had said, fronted by a porch which tucked around the side of the house as well, and the centre top window was open just enough to allow an adult Maneki Neko to slip in.

Zenko matched the other's brisk pace. He listened carefully to Kallo's instructions on how to get into the house, he wanted to be sure that he would remember once they got there. Seeing the house his tails twitched happily, soon they would be warm! He climbs up the steps to the porch and got close to the door before jumping on the the railing. He jumped again this time onto a windowsill before pausing seeing the gap between the two windows. The young neko was nervous about jumping. Kallo was right when he said it was nerve racking but the other had done it a lot. He took a deep breath before leaping over to the other window sill.
He let out a sigh of relief when he landed on the other windowsill. The fox colored Neko moved to the far side of the windowsill to wait for Kallo to join him. It was his house, sort of, so it was only polite to let him go in first. Zenko had just wanted to get up before he though about it to much and freaked. He sat down making sure there was plenty of room for the older Neko to land on even if it was in the middle of the windowsill.

Kallo followed Zenko with practised ease; knowing from experience precisely how hard and how high to jump. The snow wasn't an issue for either of them, and Kallo quickly joined Zenko on the sill.
He nodded his thanks and acknowledgement of Zenko's intent to let him go first and carefully slipped through the window and into the room. Although as well-decorated as the rest of the house, this room had a feel of being uninhabited- the furniture was primarily storage, and some boxes were neatly stacked by one wall. Kallo lightly dropped from the inside window sill to the thick carpet and trotted over to the door.
Standing on his back legs, he reached up and pulled the handle down with his front paws; carefully walking backwards until the door was open wide enough to slip a paw in. Then he awkwardly dropped back to all fours; backing up as he did so to avoid knocking the door closed again by accident. Doors were not designed for paws.
Slipping a paw in the gap, he tugged the door until it swung wide enough to allow him to exit the room, and he stepped onto the landing. The thick carpet here was emerald green, and the fine wallpaper was cream and gold. He had a moment's doubt when he looked around- he knew how much the humans loved the look of their home, and although he didn't understand the appeal of expensive wall decor, he knew they would not be happy if he brought in a guest who scratched them. Still, he thought, he has been nothing but respectful so far. He shrugged and stood to one side of the door, waiting for Zenko to exit the room as well so he could close it behind him and keep the rest of the house warmer than the room with the open window.

Zenko slid under the window and jumped lightly to the floor below, It had been a while since he had stood on a carpet. He double checked that his claws where sheathed he didn't want them sticking out and snagging in the carpet. One it might damage the carpet and two he would probably trip over it. He looked around at all the boxes and furniture for a moment before he followed Kallo to the door.
The young Neko didn't want to get lost in the house and he had no idea which rooms they where allowed in and which where off limits. Zenko was impressed by Kallo's ability to open the door, he would have to try it sometime, If he found a place that he could without bothering anyone of course. The young neko looked at the wallpaper, it was pretty. He though that humans used them to make the walls seem more like a home and pretty.

Once Zenko had joined him, Kallo stood on his back legs again; one front paw on the door frame for support, he pawed at the door handle, tugging the door little by little back towards him. Once it was close enough he grasped at it with both paws; managing to tuck his paws around it and leaning his weight backwards. The door clicked shut and he dropped down with more grace than when he had opened it. Getting out, thankfully, would be much easier, both to open and close the door.
Without a backwards glance, he turned and trotted briskly along the landing, turning at the top of the stairs and running down them. He was relieved to be here at last; in the warm, the dry, with food out for him, and real, fresh food to come once the humans returned home- although his nose hinted at something more.
Turning at the bottom of the stairs again, he trotted to the other end of the hallway and nudged the ajar kitchen door open. His nose had not lied to him- they had put out some meaty leftovers in a second bowl, and he had been fortunate indeed to find them today, when he had company to share them with. He sniffed at the water and found it fresh too; between the dried food and the leftovers, he felt there would probably be enough for both himself and Zenko here. He looked around to check on his companion.
