A failure, that's what Zelcion was. His brilliant plan hadn't netted any of them glory like he had been anticipating. Instead they had been rewarded with humiliation and scoldings. Really Zelcion should have been glad that such a thing was all they had needed to endure since Lord Phibrizzo seemed to have been considering calling for their heads for a while. A servant that could not follow orders or carry out simply missions was useless and not worth the effort. Zelcion was clever enough to determine that they were probably only still alive because of the low numbers the mazoku currently boasted. Instead there had been mention of them all needing to be retrained.

Zelcion cursed and kicked at a tree hard enough to leave an impression in it's bark. He had decided to take a walk in order to escape the ridicule of his betters but he couldn't run from his own mind and it cut into him with scathing remarks that had never been uttered. As always his personal underling had followed after him. Zelcion fixed his violet gaze on the mare and smirked wickedly at her. Perhaps she thought that he would seek to stand with her like he used to on his bad days but that wasn't the case. He had another mare to satisfy himself with now and she was both better to look at and much more fun. Yseult was simply Zelcion's servant. She was no longer useful to him in one way but there were other things she could still be used for.

"Refresh my memory, Yseult, did I request your company today?" He asked turning away from her and drawing himself up into a more regal stance. She was his servant and she hadn't needed to deal with the same scorn that he had because of it. Zelcion could fix that, if he was to suffer than so would she.

Ever since they had returned from the Padmapani's lands Yseult had noticed a distinct change in Zelcion. He had been more likely to snap at people without cause and had taken to killing things just to amuse himself. It concerned Yseult deeply, not because she cared for him or his well-being but because he was beginning to act like a brainless beast. Yseult had come to learn from her junior but she had not been learning anything ever since his spectacular failure. There had been several times that she had considered leaving since they had come back.

At first such a plan had seemed like a good idea. She could fly off in the night when no one was watching but the idea of living the rest of her life running from shadows had not appealed to her. Perhaps she wasn't truly mazoku but she had sided with them and they didn't seem to be the type to take betrayal lightly. There was no doubt in Yseult's mind that if she fled, and was successful in getting away, it wouldn't be long before she was hunted down like a fox and slaughtered. It was in an effort to stop herself from pondering an escape that lead her to follow Zelcion today and it seemed as though that had been a bad idea.

"You didn't." She replied tamely. Time with the mazoku had changed her. There had been a time when Yseult had stood at the top of the chain, queen of the mountain. No one had given her orders then and she would have taken the life, or at least the horns or fangs, of anyone that had tried. Now she answered to a whelp with wings no bigger than a child and had been ever since he was a child. Going with him had probably been the worst mistake of her life. She had been learning but the price for a little training seemed ridiculously high.

Uwasa had just sent a crow back to Lorenna to report in. Nothing had really happened since the young kalona had left to attack the Padmapani. She had received word that their plan had failed thanks largely to Lorenna's network and some careful planning. When the group had returned Uwasa had found she had little else to report. It was hard to spy on the entire group when they seemed so content to plot things alone or in tiny groups that Uwasa rarely knew what was going on. On top of that they were very hard to find, they didn't seem to have any one place to carry out meetings with each other or outsiders and she was only one agent. She couldn't keep track of all of them but she did her best.

Today she had gotten lucky, two of the noisier ones had found her and Devmani. Uwasa had to duck quickly behind a tree to avoid being seen. She signaled Devmani with her tail to keep him from moving, he was far enough back that he wouldn't be seen if he stayed put. Uwasa quieted her breathing like her fathers had taught her and silently prayed that the wind stayed still. Neither the stallion, Zelcion, nor the mare, Yseult, seemed to have caught her scent but that could change at a moment's notice. She quivered slightly out of fear, they were closer to her now than they ever had been before and they were huge.

She desperately wanted to back away but she was certain that they would hear her. Instead she would do what she had been sent to do, she would spy.

Devmani was quite content with how his life had been, yes, it was considerably more dangerous now, but it was interesting. There was rarely a dull moment and he had the constant company of the prettiest and most exotic mare to have ever wandered into the jungle. She hadn't agreed to be his treasure or his pet yet but he knew that one day she would be happy to be part of his collection. He was quite rich and powerful, after all, he was a king. One day Uwasa would understand her folly and would stop this ridiculous task of watching kalona day in and day out. It was boring and it was risky and neither was a good life for such a precious creature.

Today had started out much like any other. He had woken up to the sounds of Uwasa stretching and preparing herself for the day. Then he had quickly gotten himself ready so that she wouldn't leave him behind again. She really was like a cat, she didn't need him, she did as she pleased whether he was a part of it or not. She was nice enough but trying to tame her was as pointless as trying to tame his ocelot Aditi, she did as she pleased too.

Things had changed when he had decided to take a break for lunch. As he was eating Uwasa suddenly dashed behind a tree and gave him the signal for stay back. Devmani frowned; he couldn't see what she was seeing, there were too many trees around him. All he knew was that Uwasa was concerned about something, something close, and she didn't want it to know she was there. Devmani clicked his beak quietly, a sign of worry, but followed Uwasa's command. For a long while he did absolutely nothing and then he noticed Aditi trying heading towards Uwasa. Silently he cursed the ocelot's timing before creeping after her, if she made any sound in the brush Uwasa might be discovered.

It only took him a moment to sneak up on his pet and once she was in reach he gently closed his claws around her. What happened next could only be described as a terrible accident, Aditi started hissing and spitting like a drop of water on a hot coal. Devmani could feel the blood draining from his face, he had made a terrible mistake.

"Then what, may I ask, made you think I could possibly want to endure your presence today?" Zelcion gave his servant a cold smile. She was his to torment as he pleased and there was nothing she could do about it. She was a servant, servants that didn't comply were disposable. Like him. He opened his mouth fully intending to berate the mare but he didn't get the chance to start as the sounds of a particularly unhappy cat filled the air. Zelcion crinkled his brow as he turned his head to see where the sound was coming from, it wasn't far from his left flank. He took several steps in that direction and came upon a strange sight, just past the trees and tall brush he could see a golden stallion with large bird wings and golden jewelry holding something to the ground.

"What do we-" His words came to an abrupt halt as he finally noticed that something was off, something was breathing very close to his hind leg. He turned his head quickly and found the smallest mare he had ever seen crouched by a tree wearing a skull in her hair. "Who?" His brain was trying to process everything too quickly and nothing was making any sense. What was going on? Normal soquili didn't stalk kalona, they fled from them and there was something strangely familiar about the scent of the female, he was far too close to miss it now.

Uwasa was trembling as the kalona walked right past her too confident to pay much attention to his surroundings. Her breathing became shallow in an attempt to make it quieter but the exact opposite happened, she began making more noise instead of less. It didn't take Zelcion long to notice her hiding behind him and she wasted no time in acting. Uwasa shot to her feet and rammed the stallion in the tender part of his side with her head before dashing to Devmani.

"Run!" She cried to her friend recognizing the very real danger they were in. Neither of them were fighters, she had been picked for her stealth not for her power and Devmani hadn't seen a fight in all of his days. "We've got to get out of here, now!" Uwasa was quite certain that their mission was completely blown. They needed to get somewhere safe to send out a report as quickly as possible and that meant out of the jungle where the mazoku could be hiding behind any tree.

Devmani was horrified when the kalona came through the trees just far enough that he could now be seen. Not long after the kalona notice his jewel, Uwasa, too. He swallowed slowly not sure what to do. He considered introducing himself and making up a story, he was awfully good at stories, but Uwasa acted first. She head butted the stallion before shouting orders to run. Devmani looked a little confused. "To send a bird to, Lorenna?" He asked stupidly as he slowly started to run after Uwasa. A few seconds later he realized that something was missing.

"Aditi!" Devmani came to a stop and turned to look for his ocelot but she was no where in sight. He wanted to go in search of her but Uwasa was getting further and further away. "Aditi, my darling, I will find you again!" He called before dashing off after Uwasa. Aditi would come back to him eventually, she always did. He held on to that thought as he ran not realizing that he was getting ready to leave everything he had ever known behind.

Yseult had no idea what was going on. First Zelcion was snapping at her, like she had expected, and then there were sounds. Zelcion went to investigate and the next moment he was staggering backward and people were shouting. She snarled and followed Zelcion into the trees. When she got there two soquili were disappearing into the jungle beyond. The strangest thing of all was that Zelcion wasn't doing anything.

"Zelcion?" She was getting impatient with him. It wasn't like him to let someone attack him and get away clean. "What are you doing?! They're getting away!"

The moment Uwasa made contact Zelcion realized exactly how off his game he had been recently. That was the last clear thought he had. It was followed by a series of short thoughts that came and went so quickly that they were a lot like little birds caught in a hurricane leaving him staring blankly ahead. It wasn't until Yseult began shouting at him that the birds began to slow. For several minutes Zelcion did nothing but stare into the distance as he got his thoughts in order completely ignoring Yseult. Once he had put two and two together a smile crept across his lips and he finally turned to acknowledge his servant.

"Yseult, I have work for you." He said as he turned away, he needed to find his father. "Hunt those two down, keep them from contacting anyone or anything. Kill them if you can. I believe we're on to something." As Zelcion spoke he made his way down the thin jungle trails in search of Xelloss or anyone that might know his whereabouts. Yseult would do as she was told or he would kill her. He knew that she knew that so he trusted that she would perform. He had a more pressing job. It seemed they had spies in these parts, spies sending birds, spies working for someone named Lorenna, and most importantly, spies that needed to be stopped.
