It was midmorning when two dogs decided to stop walking. Leini's muscles were a bit sore, but she refused to complain. Her daughter could see the grimace of pain every few yards, though, and eventually nudged her off to lay down in the shade of a nearby tree. The younger female left with promises to return by nightfall.
Leini sighed, stretching under the shade of the tree It was nice and cool, away from the hot morning sun. She could feel the burn of her muscles underneath. She allowed her body to relax, simply watching the world go by in front of her.
It was a beautiful sight - one she didn't often stop to appreciate. She smiled as a breeze rolled by. She was glad that her daughter left her for time alone. It would be a nice day indeed.

Hanja trotted along at an easy pace, a slight scowl on his lips. The red lion had let him go with nothing but a few bruises, a lecture, and a warning. The dog was still trying to decide whether or not it had been a trick, whether or not the feline was stalking him at a distance, waiting for him to mess up. The dog could just imagine it. Out of nowhere, the lion coming out and slashing him across the face. The canine shuddered to think about it. He was lost now, however. His whole life and line of work was all but gone. His reputation amongst his client was completely ruined. Hanja would probably never be hired for any sort of work ever again. He desperately needed something to cheer him up. With a sigh, Hanja looked around for a place to catch a nap. He had been walking all night, and his paws were getting sore. As he looked around, the dog caught sight of a female resting in the shade of a tree nearby. A toothy smile stretched across his face. Something to cheer him up indeed. Hanja slowly approached the female and the tree, tail and head lowered to avoid threatening the stranger. "Say now, miss, there room for two under there?" He called out cheerfully.

Leini was looking up at the clouds when she heard another approaching. She blinked at the other dog for a moment before giving a cheerful smile. "Oh, hello!" she gave a nod. She flicked her ears towards him. "There's plenty of you, join me."
It was not often that she had company outside her daughter. While her daughter was lovely company, it was often that she craved audience with someone else. "What brings you this way?"

Hanja smiled back and settled down, huffing out a small sigh of relief as his weight was taken off of his paws. They were more sore than he had originally thought. Now up close, the dog could see that the stranger was starting to get on in years, but her coat still shone with youthful energy. In Hanja's experience, age usually came with one of two things. The first was bitterness. The second was compassion. The female seemed friendly enough, so Hanja was willing to bet she had grown into the latter. It would be best to appeal to that side, to get a weeping heart going. Hanja was good at those. One of his best personas, really. "Just trying to find a new path in world." He said with an undertone of sadness, giving her a small smile before glancing at his paws. Then again, now that he thought about it, he was really trying to find a new path. The Red Robin had gotten to him more than he had thought. Hanja wasn't just pretending to be a lost soul anymore. In many ways, he actually was one now. Hanja shook the thought away, not wanting to deal with that kind of pathetic emotion right now. "And what about you, miss? What's got a beautiful young female such as yourself wandering about these parts alone?"

The male seemed really kind, and he looked genuine as far as Leini could tell. He was just another traveler on the road to something better, like everyone really. She gave an understanding hum. "It can be hard to find. I wish you luck," she tilted her head, looking at the male.
"You flatter me - I'm not that young anymore," she gave a small giggle. She hid a grin behind one of her paws, trying to smother the flustered feeling that emerged with the words. "I'm trying to find a new home. My old one rather moved on without me." She gave a small wistful smile. "Perhaps the mountains. The winds are supposed to sing there..." She muttered thoughtfully.
She wasn't quite sure she knew how to bring up that she wasn't alone, but he would find out if he stayed long enough that her daughter was quite a ways off doing gods know what. And oh, but to feel young again.

Everything going according to plan. This would be easy. "Not young?" The dog scoffed. "I wouldn't believe it for a second." He winked, setting his shoulders back so that he was a little taller. The male crossed his front paws, giving his neck a roll. "I know how that feels." He sighed in response to her second comment. "Got lost one day while hunting, and by the time I had found my way back, everyone was gone to the dust, not a trace a left." He said wistfully. Hanja snorted, clicking his teeth together. "But let's not wallow in the pains of the past. The future holds brighter things, surely. In fact, I happen to be a bit of a seer." The dog joked. "I'm having a vision right now! I'm seeing that..." Hanja trailed off for effect, staring intently off into the distance. "You are going to tell me your name." The male grinned, thumping his tail lightly.

"Wouldn't you know my name if you were a seer?" she teased back, but shook her head. Seers didn't always get clear pictures, so he could be telling the truth. Still, the only seer she knew personally was Mama Mkimya, and she wasn't around anymore. She was sure the heir of her former pack was one as well. She was showing signs...
But enough on that. "Leini is my name," she told him. "Unfortunately I'm not blessed with the powers of a Seer, so I'll have to ask your name instead. What can I call you, kind sir," Leini answered, tilting her head slightly in curiosity.

Hanja laughed along with her teasing. Ah, this is what he had been missing. The dog had been so caught up in all of his other cons that he had forgotten how much he liking flirting and toying. In fact, he couldn't even remember the last time he had done this. Hanja had been running from that damn Red Robin character from at least a month or two. It was strange to not feel the constant adrenaline of the chase. "Drat. It looks like you've found me out." The dog said with disappointment. His life as a thief and conman would have been much easier if he had really been a seer. Of course, he had faked being a seer more than a few times, but sometimes he wished he really was. "You can call me Hanja, miss Leini."

"Nice to meet you, Hanja." Leini gave a small smile. It had been a long while since she met someone new. She wasn't tired, per ce, of everyone else. She was just used to them. She craved travel. She craved new people, interaction with those she hadn't seen yesterday.
"Come here often?" She chuckled to herself, even if it could be a legitimate question. It sounded like a pick-up line after she spoke. Still, she was curious about the answer.

Hanja laughed genuinely at the question. How often had he himself pulled that one on others? Never once however, had the line been used on himself. It was both hilarious and refreshing. It also told him that Leini was falling right into his paws. "As often as it appears you do, miss." Hanja finally answered, blinking away some moisture at the corners of his eyes. "I never like staying in one place for too long. I like to travel, y'know? See the world, meet new people, discover new things." Of course, the real reason Hanja bounced from area to area was because he usually had more than one person out to skin his hide, but the female didn't need to know that. Plus what he had said was half-way true. He really did like to travel, though most of the time he was too focused on covering his tracks or hiding to notice the new sights around him. The dog gave a Leini a smile. "Who knows though? Maybe if given the right reason, even a wandered like me could finally settle down." Ah yes, the hopeless romantic. He should have thought about that one sooner. It was always a killer with the older ladies.

"For much the same reason I'm out here then," Leini sighed, tilting her head. He glanced up at the male. "The world is an amazing place, isn't it?" She gazed over the landscape, and it was still beautiful even though the sun was at it's peak, signalling mid-day.
"Perhaps, perhaps," Leini nodded. "Settling down. Settling down is hard. But I want to. I'm getting to old to be running around like a pup anymore." She noted, shifting a bit. She'd been travelling since she'd been weaned. Her whole life. It was getting exhausting, even as she missed traveling like she used to.

Hanja nodded along with her words. In truth, Hanja felt like he would never really settle down. Find a cause to believe in, the Red Robin and instructed him. Find a cause, and it will keep you grounded. But that was harder than it sounded. The only Hanja believed in, the only thing he had ever known, was theft and conning and fighting, all things the lion had warned him to cease doing. It wasn't like there was just a new cause waiting right around the corner. He sighed. "Hard indeed." Hanja had been a part of a pack once upon a time. He hadn't joined another group since, turning to trickery in order to keep himself alive. Good gracious, what was he doing? Hanja had heard of this sort of thing happening to con men. They got too into their con, actually believing themselves to be the person they were pretending to be. It was rare, but it happened. The dog really needed to start focusing. "The afternoon heat is starting towards its worst," Hanja remarked, staring up at the sky. "Now I don't know about you, but I was always told that a midday respite was the best way to beat the heat." The male said with a wink.

Leini giggled, actually giggled. She hadn't felt this young for a long while. She had settled down with a mate that was the complete opposite of her. One the pack split apart, she took her daughter and left with a small group of Klipspringers, though they were all with Maziwa to find something-or-other. She wouldn't say out loud, but she felt rather pretty at the moment, with attention focused on her. "Is it now?" she asked, with a bright smile and a happy wag of her tail.

Hanja laughed along with her. Leini seemed to just eat up the attention he was giving her. It seemed like she had been on her own for awhile. If Hanja had only known it would be this easy. With a smooth smile, the male scooted just a little bit closer. "Why yes, it is." He assured her, tone mocking seriousness. "My seer powers told me so." Hanja chuckled. He was pretty sure that wasn't how seer powers actually worked, but who cared? It was all in good fun. The male gave Leini a soft smile, their fur now barely brushing. Finding a new path in the world was going to be tough, he knew. But who said he had to start now? Tomorrow was just a good a day as this one. Besides, Hanja was sure that this didn't count as stealing. Or violence. Or any of the other things the Red Robin had lectured him about. No, this was still fair game. It was a way to still hold on to who he was. And Hanja was going to hold on with all of his might. The male turned his gaze upwards to the sky, ready for a respite.
