Sara was taking a trip down memory lane. It seemed forever ago since she had come to this part of Lunaria as a student, doe eyed and full of curiosity and wonder. Everything seemed to be bringing back memories, the ringing of forges, the smell of freshly baked treats, the call of the shopkeepers trying to entice new customers into buying their goods. Then came into sight a shop that she would never forget, where she had bumped into a certain green haired boy that she had been avoiding for so many years.
She thought the sight of the place would send a shiver down her spine. That she would have turned away and not given it a second look. However, none of this happened. In the end, the shop was just brick and mortar. It was not the workshop of demons, just a small family business which displayed trinkets that were just as beautiful as they always were. She tilted her head to the side, her shoeless feet taking her closer to the last place she ever thought today would take her.
Thinking about it, she had never hated him. Not like she thought she would. Looking back at it all, she was more angry with the way people stared at her face, than she ever was at Cais. He had given her some wonderful memories and opened her eyes to the world. In many ways, his actions were a blessing. Maybe if she had paid more attention, maybe if she had leaned her lesson, her life would not feel as messed up as it was now. Maybe she would have not opened up her heart to be broken under situations that seemed so alike.
The girl was wearing a simple brown dress, her hair tied up in a lazy ponytail. Bangs framed her face, revealing the scars that dominated it, aswell as some of the newer ones that she had gained on her arms and collar bones. A deeper one was just visible under the cut of her dress, over her heart, where the assassin had tried to take her life. They were not as repulsive as she once saw them. Infact, she quite liked the stories they told and the memories they brought back. She was pretty beat up for a conduit, who were usually so pristine and lovely looking. Maybe she was when she was not pretending to be a begger, but never the less she had the marks of a fighter on her flesh.
She had been in many battles by this point, afterall.
She did not know why she had come here, or why she found herself walking through the door into the establishment. Maybe, she just wanted to put all demons to rest. Maybe, she just wanted to rewrite this chapter of her life, so it could have a happier ending.

It started off as any normal day in the Trinh household. Cais and his father were in the workshop while Hein, the only daughter of the family, was to watch the storefront. Normally Cais would watch the shop on days like this but since the night he had stumbled home half dead his father had kept a closer eye on his son. Cais didn't mind too much given the work kept his mind busy and away from the darkness which often clouded his mind. Busy hands kept him in a numb state which could be considered happiness for the young fighter. So he went to work as usual.
Unknown to him his younger sister had no intention of minding the shop and had already snuck her way out. In her stead Aekichi, Cais's kitten, had perched up onto the main desk, curling over the heap of papers accumulated over it. Soon after she opened a single one of her eyes to greet the girl who had entered. With a meow and yawn the cat sprawled over the desk, expecting attention immediately. In the background the sound of scraping metal pierced the serene nature of the shop.
For a moment it seemed empty aside from the small kitten begging for attention, until a figure entered from a side door. "Hein, father wants you to go down to main street to pick up a shipment of new tools... " Cais sighed deeply upon seeing the empty desk. "Gone again. " He muttered. His face was filled with sweat which he wiped with the short sleeve of the dark green Gi he was wearing. His normal attire still damaged he'd been left digging through old clothes until his were mended.
Taking in a deep breath he slumped, tilting his head in the way of the stranger in the shop. "Ah, um. " He blinked, moving to stand near the desk. "Sorry about that. May I help you? " Cais studied her for a moment, idly petting Aekichi as he had grown accustomed to doing whenever she was sprawled out.
His eyes remained on the girl with a curious nature. Though her attire made her seem homely and like many who came in only to admire their work, there seemed something familiar. Suddenly he realized he was staring and turned his gaze away.
Where had he seen her?

Sara's fins twitched. Was that....
She looked over to the desk, eyes oogling the cat which was lazily sprawled across it. Sara loved cats, she used to have one of her own, but Bish was with Bataar now. Her kitty would be safe with him, but she did miss it none the less. Sara had always loved animals, ever since she was little. Her fingers twitched, she wanted to touch it, hug it. A smile came across her tanned lips. It was just, so damn cute! She wanted to stick her head in his tummy and just nuzzle the soft fur.
Then, there was someone else at the desk. Sara did not even get a proper look at him until she turned around, she knew by his voice. She cleared her throat, shaking her head and directing her attention to the closes item to her, pretending to browse. "Erm... No, nothing yet. Just looking. Hmm..." She shook her head, maybe she should just side step towards the door and make a run for it. All the bravery she had in her had already taken a head start, and she needed to catch up with it.
She looked over her shoulder just as Cais looked away. She could feel his eyes on her, and the tension in the room was obvious. This was the most uncomfortable situation ever. After a couple of deep breathes and a few mental calming techniques, she turned ever so slightly, he bangs creeping over her shoulders and veiling her face somewhat.
"You always did make the prettiest little things..." She mumbled, putting a panted finger onto an item, and watching as the light reflecting off the glass in an array of pretty colours.

A creeping chill was making its way up his spine as the girl shifted, talking softly. Darker memories were stirring in him, a regret long past. Aekichi rolled over, curiously staring at her owner who had suddenly gone rigid. How is that possible? His head shook the thought away as he moved closer to her, analyzing her face and body structure. "I see..."
So long ago it seemed, the memories of another life almost with lights reflecting off of the serene blackness. Warm air in the shop had escaped him and he moved to her. It was relatively eerie how serious he had become in the matter of seconds, so much that the muttered compliment had fallen to the wayside. It was a soft touch, but he reached out to her shoulder, turning her to face him as gently as he could.
It was a shattering sight to see her and Cais moved back as if he'd seen a ghost. There in plain light he could see it, his marks on her... her. "Sara?" The name twisted a knife in his heart and he turned away from her, still not able to face her directly. Of all places she had to come to.... His body was heavy and he had begun to tremble, barely able to stand in one spot. Pushing a hand out he stabled himself on a pole, staring down at the floor with wide eyes.
What could he say? Cais had thought they would never cross paths again. "...I h-hope you're doing well..." He muttered, steadying himself. What words would be right? The fighter turned his bright eyes back on her for a moment. She'd grown, changed so much since then... but her face... He bit his lip, slamming his head into the pole where his hand was.
What do I do?

Sara did not fight as his finger touched her chin, she just took a deep breath and let him lead her head around to face him. He could not move away quick enough, and she was faced with a reaction she had not gotten in a long time. Was is disgust? regret? or just shock. She did not know, but his reaction made her shiver somewhat. She rolled her eyes, she was used to it by now, and her scars had long since stopped causing her any emotional or physical pain. "Pfft. I don't look that bad. There is no need to pee your pants." She rested a hand on her hip, pale eyes eyeing up his workmanship some more. A lot of people had accepted her, loved her, scars and all - she would feel like a monster no longer.
She learnt back against a shelf, before she let her slight frustration slip away so she was able to respond to his question. "I am fine, a lot better as of late, actually. Infact, I would go as far as saying I am more than fine, I am... happy." And she was, for the first time in a long time not a single thing was bothering her. She missed her friends, but she knew that she needed to sort herself out for now, and it was something she had to do alone. Nobody could help her, infact having company might make this whole situation worse. One traitor, one traitor was enough.
"How about you? A lot has changed. Well, on my end that is the case. I can not say I have been actively keeping up with what is going on with you. Good things, I hope." She was a student when he knew her, now, even though she did not appear it, she was a priestess. Her powers had grown more than she ever expected, and she could take care of herself. One million miles away from the weak girl he once knew, she was now a woman grown. So much had happened, if it was the same on his end then he would be unrecognizable too. Maybe, that was why she had come back, maybe that is why she thought he might have changed.

He was silent as she spoke, the wheels in his head turning. A pain in his heart so deep began to throb sharply. She talked of happiness which somewhere made the pain dull, but it couldn't take it away. "I'm good." He said, finally turning to look back at her. She really had changed. He wasn't looking at the same Sara he had known, the same one that made his heart stir. She matured, probably a lot more than he had. But there on her face plain as day was the reminder of his biggest mistake and greatest regret.
"Please don't mistake my shame for offense." Cais muttered, his eyes wandering from her again. He could feel a twinge of warmth mixed in the pain. Nostalgia crept in but was quickly silenced. He'd lost all right to talk to her again, all rights to feel anything for her. She was never his to miss, what right had he?
Yet here now it was all coming back to light. His eyes remained pointed away from her. "I don't deserve to look at you. " He said, rather pained. "It's good to know you're fine. Happy. But you should go." Before you get hurt again. The words were not spoken, but he could feel the hollowness swelling, inside. Yes he was comforted to know she was alright, but even from so long past had never been able to trust himself. Everyone he was close to ended up either hurt or dead, he wasn't going to let it happen again.
