Garland peered over his shoulder quickly as he trotted out into a field, his ears laying back with worry when he took note of the colored sky. It was pinks and yellows, ribbed with the red undersides of clouds from the setting sun. Doubtless, it was a beautiful scene, but it signaled the coming night, and he knew his parents would be worried and drag him back at such a time if they found him. How could he help it, though? He thought he saw a light ahead, and he just had to know what it was!
After another wary look to ensure no one was following him, he quickened his pace. Soon, the field of grass gave way to a muddy bank, and he reached the strange light that had taken claim of his attention.
"Stay still!" he said, half pleading, half demanding, as he followed after the firefly. He squinted, but was unable to quite see what kind of creature it was, and continued to chase after it despite his muddied legs.
