Gyms don't have a set "Monotype" per each gym, rather each gym leader has a Genre of music that their city and they themselves represent.

Melodia Town and Harmonia City is where most trainers who were born into this region start their Grand Adventure, as Professor Hawthorns Lab is Located within one of them.

Trainers who are born within Shikoku have a formal written exam, and then a "mock battle" with one of the Professors many young Pokémon.

Unlike other regions who have three rare and unique starter Pokémon, the trainer is given a choice of three based off the results of their exam. They may pick one of those three and then they are set to battle up against another trainer aiming for their license.

Generally, to the victor, go the spoils.

Trainers seeking to journey to Shikoku must pass a similar test. There is again a formal written exam, and their first test pits them against a local "Super Star" trainer, or one of the gym leaders.

They are granted entry into the country if they pass the exam, the battle is to test their skill as a trainer.

Each gym is based off a genre of music.

Ceasura Town has no Gym Leader, and currently no genre of Music. It was formally a Techno-Theme

Tremolo City has a Pop-Themed Gym

Sengo City has a Ska-Themed Gym

Fugue City has a Zen-Themed Gym

Killuminati City has a Rap-Themed Gym

Black Bird City has a Country-Themed Gym

Maestro Village has an Orchestral-Themed Gym

Metallica City has a Metal-Themed Gym

Members of the Elite Four also follow this genre, but as at this time of writing these spots are currently unfilled, the genres they are or might become is unknown.
