Pehr twitched. Rubbing his hands together sporadically.

He looked like an alcoholic or an addict. He wasn't, he was just cold. The lightening to the east indicated that it would be another hour till dawn in Palisade and although the season was just changing over to fall, nights were starting to get colder. Pehr huddled in a doorway, thin body hidden among a pile of filthy rags. Two eyes, one blue, the other brown, kept a weary watch, jumping around in their overly large sockets. His lanky blonde hair was hidden under a filthy teal hood, and only his two ever watchful eyes could be seen in the heap of tatters.

The city-folk were just starting to go about their business. The bakers were getting up to start on their bread, stable-boys were awakening their charges, and servants were starting to attend to their masters' needs. It wouldn't be too much longer before the merchants made their way into the city, bringing their wares with them.

And once the people flocked in, Pehr would have to move off, for a chance encounter with the city watch would be most unwelcome.

Pehr's stomach growled painfully, reminding him that he hadn't eaten the night before, and he shifted position slightly. While it might look like he took up the whole doorstep in his pile of rags, it was actually an illusion meant to deceive any passerby's. Pehr sat perched, arms wrapped around his knees, feet gathered under him. If anything approached he could easily attack or flee from his position. Next to him lay the creature which took up most of the rags and room on the doorstep. A brown doe, well beige if one washed all the mud and dirt from her, slept soundly beside the street urchin. She wasn't large, barely over a year old, and where Pehr was skin and bones, the yearling had amble weight on her frame. She was obviously the better feed of the two. She snored quietly, head rested on her front foreleg. Every now and then an image would drift into Pehr's head from the sleeping doe, of acres of green grass and brilliant blue skies. If Pehr still smiled, he would have done so at the moment, happy that his bonded could find happiness in her dreams. He sure couldn't anymore.

While it was still well before dawn, Connor was up and about, running from room to room in his home in order to get ready for the day. His grogginess slowed him down a little and made him feel rather lethargic, but he still managed to dress himself and put his clothing that he wore as a uniform for work which was just a change of breeches, a different shirt as well as his apron. They were clothes that could easily get dirty since they were all white but he didn't care too much. They were washable and weren't as expensive as his more formal clothing. He also packed in a few treats for Rosaire to feed her (which was really just vegetables) as well as a few snacks for himself to eat on the way to his bakery. It was quite the walk to get there and he had to leave the moment he was ready in order to get there in time to open up at the normal times when most other shops in the area opened as well.

Once his boots were slipped on after he was ready, Connor went out into his backyard to see Rosaire already waiting out there for him. She gently trotted over to him only to nuzzle him in the side, causing him to smile softly as he lifted a hand to pet her head gently. ”Good morning to you too, Rosy," he said with a wide smile as he grabbed one of the vegetables from his basket, handing them to the deer which she took them happily, munching away while the two of them leaded to the main road towards the bakery.

It was a nice peaceful walk to the bakery despite it being freezing cold out and Connor regretting even getting out of his bed. Rosy didn't seem to mind much though and all she really wanted was more vegetables from the basket which she even dared to each her head in and take one on her own. The blonde scolded her for that, giving her a gentle nudge, telling her that she was not supposed to do that and she should have asked instead. The two of them had an amazing bond but sometimes Rosy was pushy and impatient, but Connor did stay angry at her for long. She was far too adorable to stay mad at, especially when she lowered her head as if to look away in shame. All that really made Connor do was smile and pat her head, saying that it was okay. He didn't mind, he just wished she would be a little more patient.

It was a good forty or so minutes before Connor finally got to his bakery, but upon reach it . . . he noticed that there was a little surprise upon the doorstep of his shop. There seemed to be a boy sitting upon the steps that was huddled up in a teal hood, although it looked rather disgusting and filthy. But there also seemed to be something lying beside him, which upon closer examination he noticed that it was another doe, which Rosaire noticed as well and couldn't help but feel a little productive as she moved in front of Connor once he had come to a stop in front of the boy and the deer. Blue eyes gazed down at the pair, finding himself suddenly feeling absolutely terrible seeing them there. The longer he stared the more he realized this boy was probably starving and lived on the street . . . such a hurtful sight to see, really. And while it was probably a bad idea, Connor felt compelled to ask him if he wanted to come inside and warm up, maybe eat something.

"U-um . . . excuse me, but . . . this is my bakery you're sitting in front of. Would you . . . would you like to come in?" he asked, gently patting Rosaire to show that it was okay. "I'm afraid your friend there will have to stay outside . . . b-but I can give you something to eat if you'd like, and you can warm up a little." If he didn't ask he would feel guilty and just like complete s**t for letting this poor boy freeze and starve to death. "In fact I . . . I insist you come in for a little bit." Always far too nice for his own good. However, Connor didn't wait for the stranger to answer him as he stepped around him so he could unlock the front door, going inside to set his things down and also turn on the lights before he turned to the door, standing there with it open for the boy to come in. He would be stupid to refuse.
