Zalashji had had a long week. First baby-sitting the strange mare Shal'zaru had found on the beach until she reached her home, and then meeting his father. He still wasn't sure if that was a disappointment or not yet. Sighing softly, he walked into the cave he shared with his mate, happy to be on familiar ground again.
"I am home, my lady," he called, walking in and pausing to let his eyes adjust to the darkness of their shared den. "Are you here, love?"

"So you have returned, then?" Sarevess asked, stepping forward from her resting place to peer at her half-blood mate. Pity her pet was merely a half-breed, but then even though he was far less than pure in blood or title, he was a handsome enough specimen, and Sarevess knew that she could do far worse.
Far better, as well, but it was best not to dwell upon what might have been. Looking to the future was far more important.
"I trust that you have returned whole and well?" She asked, walking toward him on delicate hooves. "And if you have not, that you have dealt with those whom caused you injury?" Of course, if he hadn't, she would take care of them.
She couldn't abide having something of hers damaged, after all.

The stallion chuckled, walking over the nuzzle his mate's cheek. "I am returned whole, yes. It was not a difficult journey taking the mare to her herd. My father's herd, though.... I did not meet them. They would not see me. He spoke with me some, though. I am not yet sure what to think of him." He moved away to lie down on the bed of seaweed they shared. "Were you able to keep busy in my absence? I know life is dull without me around." He grinned at the mare, looping his tail about her leg playfully.

Sarevess listened to Zalashji speak, silently reveling in the sound of his voice. He did have a rather nice voice, at least in her opinion... which meant, of course, that his voice was truly lyrical, as Sarevess prided herself of having the best judgment of all her kind.
"I did not believe that you would have any difficulties," she said at last, crooning to her pet and returning his nuzzle. "They would not have you nor speak to you?" Sarevess did nothing to disguise her mild shock at the refusal her Zala had experienced at the hooves of his other bloodline. She had thought the softer peoples... well, this could only work to her advantage in the long run.
"Well, if they will not have you, my Zala, then it is to their misfortune." A bit of honesty here would serve her ends better than any amount of dissembling. Besides, she was... fond... of the stallion, and a little ego stroking here and there was an excellent tool.
"Oh, I found a few things to keep myself occupied," she said teasingly, and nibbled at his neck. "I believe I staved off the monotony of life without you quite well, all things considered."

My father accepted me well enough," Zalashji answered, "but he said his family would not, and so I did not meet them." He looked up at his mate. "I have a brother, too. Father does not know where his is, though." He nudged her leg with his tail. "And what kept you busy in my absence?"

"Ah, so there was some acceptance," Sarevess murmured in reply, tilting her head at the mention of a sibling. "A brother, you say? If he is as you are, perhaps he will show himself someday." It was no loss to her if he did not, of course, but that went without saying.
"As for what I kept myself occupied with," the mare added, giving her mate a rather coy look. "That is my business. Some things are not meant for discussion."

"From what Father said, he is like me. I plan to try and seek him out, to let him know this herd will accept him.," Zalashji said softly, looking down and his finned forelegs.
He glanced back up at her statement, a slight frown on his face. "I am your mate. I would think there would be no secrets between us, but... very well." He sighed, laying his head down. "I would rather talk of other things, anyway."

"Is he?" Sarevess echoed, curious despite herself. "May you find him quickly, then, so you are not gone from my side for long." Sighing softly, she lifted her head and placed it over his neck in a somewhat comforting manner.
"There now, my mate. I do not tell you what I have done because there is simply nothing to tell, not in an effort to exclude you." There. Perhaps she could stave off this pitiful state before it could really begin. It wasn't that she disliked her Zala being upset, so much as that a pitiful mate was an unattractive and weak mate, and she would not stand for such.
His feelings were of little importance in the matter.
...Really.

Zalashji was not stupid by any means. He knew his mate was conniving and likely was up to something, but why push the issue? She hadn't actively tried to hurt anyone or do anything bad. He moved head, laying his finned crest back. "Perhaps I should take you with me on my next adventure to keep you from being so idle."

"Hm," Sarevess said, nuzzling at him in a slightly possessive manner. "Perhaps you should." It would be good to go with him, to keep an eye on her pet's actions when away from home. But at the same time, should she leave for any length of time... the perilous position she found herself in, with her former rank and standing already compromised, could become even more so, or worse - she could lose what was left of her standing altogether!
If she did go with him, then,she had best have some plans put into place to ensure that she still had a position to come back to. Perhaps it could even be worked into her favor...
