He would love to keep his hair long, especially in the winter, but unlike seemingly everyone else in the world, it gets wavy and generally unmanageable, so he keeps it short unwillingly. Sharp eyebrows in need of taming set the frame for dark, curiously slanted eyes that stem from his Latino-Germanic heritage that are interesting and rare, but not all that appealing. He doesn't have the perfect frame, either. Standing at a bit below the median height for young men of his age, his only feature above average is his weight. Not obese by any standards, but he can appear this way at first glance because he is slightly barrel-chested. When it comes to clothes, plain is the word of the day. T-shirts, hoodies, jeans. That's Ray's standard attire.
_________PERSONALITY ▪▫ It can be said that one's true nature rises to the surface on the Internet, and Ray is no exception. In reality, he sort of blends into the background. His inherent shyness and general unwillingness to meet new people have molded him into a loner, with only one or two people who could really be called his friends. He prefers to think before he speaks, but once he opens his mouth, all bets are off and Ray can find himself rambling quite easily. He doesn't get excited about much, and doesn't let his emotions show.
In Sword Art Online, Ray transforms into his "true" self. While not quite outgoing, he's willing to talk with new people and create relationships. In quite the contrast to his real self, Ray can be quite pushy, and will jump in to help out with a project even when he's not needed, as if to make up for years of doing nothing with his life. He keeps his rambling trait, but that merges with sometimes being unable to control the volume of his voice, which can cause him to come off as a bit of an attention hog. But deep down inside, Ray has a kind heart to aid friends and rivals alike, and the indomitable will to act as a shield to repel all.
_________BIOGRAPHY ▪▫ Below Average. It seems those two words have been dogging Ray's life ever since he was born. Born into a low-middle class family with working parents and a younger sister. He wasn't all that bright, with a "B" average with a couple high and low bumps. No notable athletic abilities, always lagging just a bit behind the pack. "Try harder!", everyone used to say. But Ray knew about his curse, his inability to be the best he could be. It seems that anything that Ray truly pours effort into becomes a failure. A final exam hard studied for, only to sleep through the test period. An intramural basketball team joined, left after a fall down a flight of stairs caused a broken leg. A lover pursued and caught, only to be cheated on and left heartbroken. So, over time, Ray gave up trying, and just blended in.
But he needed an outlet. Something that could reward him for actually trying. A place where success was based on numbers and percentages, not that random chance that had seemed to desert him since his birth. And thus, Ray discovered the video game. More specifically, the MMORPG. And the most interesting piece of technology? The NerveGear. It gave him shivers to think of its true potential. An entire virtual world, where he could escape? That would be heaven.
The day finally came when Sword Art Online was announced. Ray was ecstatic, for the first time in a long while. He immediately signed up for the beta. But as the days went by, Ray remembered his curse, and ended up disbelieving his chances of landing one of the highly-coveted beta tester positions. However, much to his surprise, one day, Ray was informed of his success. He had found it. A place with no repercussions for the way you were born. Where you could look like whatever you want, fight the way you wanted, and blaze a trail for others to follow. A place where he could...

_________APPEARANCE ▪▫ Ray has mostly ported his regular appearance over to Sword Art Online from the real world, but with a few changes. His Avatar has significantly less weight, but retains the barrel chest and broad shoulders. His facial shape and features are similar, but refined, giving him a slightly older appearance, perhaps of an adult in their very early twenties. The only other large changes to his physique are the colors of his hair and eyes, which are now sea green. Also, his hair is now naturally straight, so he grows it out a bit longer than he can in reality. His character is usually wearing light battle mail and a cloak or cape, which does reduce his speed a bit but does not restrict movement, perfect for the fighting style of the spear.
