Description: A square stone platform raised three feet off the ground. A stadium of a crowd surrounds the entire field (so ignore the backdrop in the above picture).

Field Measurements:

Stone Platform - 40 x 40 yards
Surrounding Grass - 15 yards between the platform and the audience

Ten Count Boundary: As soon as both feet touch the grass, the ring out count begins. Going higher than forty yards into the air starts a ten count.

Making his first appearance...well, anywhere in even the general vicinity of the GTB grounds, Ferris would walk into the arena from his side. He had been avoiding the crowds, not because he was famous, or even that he was late(which he definitely wasn't), but rather that he simply preferred some quite alone time. Especially before something as gut wrenchingly terrifying as the first match, and don't mistake words. Ferris wasn't scared. He was...anxious rather. His last bout in a tournament hadn't gone as well as he would have hoped, though he had done pretty well compared to the rest of team. The cards were simply against him that time.

However now was a time to make up for that. Ferris was a tall but skinny man. He wore black pants, slightly faded. He wore a simple brown vest and a white dress shirt with rolled up sleeves. A blue scarf was wrapped around his neck. An ashen colored spear rested behind his neck, his hands resting on them on either side. Time to see who his first opponent was he supposed.

Silence... Silence was all that seemed to be present as the second combatant appeared. The lithe, yet powerful fellow walked in without so much as saying a word. His countenance was thoroughly hidden by the Guy Fawkes mask he wore. The man refused to show emotion, and that mask was the symbol of his defiance, or lack, of identity. Despite this stark entrance from the fighter, he turned to see his opponent. To his surprise, he wasn't anything all too shocking. He was rather simply dressed, almost looking more like a bystander than a fighter except for the ornate spear. Regardless, he was a threat and needed to be addressed as such.

Now, normally, under regular circumstances, Nov (We'll use this name as a shortening of his alias) would skip formalities and attempt to slit his foes throat in the cleanest and quickest way possible. Seeing as this is a non-lethal and sportsman-like tourney, he did something entirely different instead. He turned to his opponent, the slits were his eyes should be struggling for eye contact, and bowed his head in respect. It was a simple gesture, yet displayed a sense of honor.

After bowing, Nov put his armored hands through his hair and stood erect. The two dagger holsters on his waist strained as his arms clutched the handles of the blades. He didn't draw the blades in the open till his opponent took guard. The man's form was akin to a tiger ready to pounce on his prey. Knee's bent with his arms ready to release a flurry in the blink of an eye.

Let the games begin...

Ferris was not a dangerous man. Not in the slightest. In terms of raw danger Nov probably was in the lowest bracket. Ferris wasn't a threat. Honest. The civilian looking tall man tilted his head a bit as Nov walked in to the arena. A nice smile donning his face. It seemed almost nervous. Interesting, two daggers. A mask. An assassin maybe? Definitely some sort of rouge. Someone in Ferris' own category of fighter. The lithe yet surprisingly dangerous type. Ferris was a bag of tech and tricks though. Ferris could guess how this man worked. No words, nothing clever. A simple bow and then to a poised stance. He was professional.

Ferris loosened his grip on the spear with his left hand and let it rotate out wide while still holding it with his right. He gave a small bow, pulling his left hand across his belly and pointing the spear out wide behind him. He kept his head up though, eyes on his opponent. "Well then, shall we do this?" He flipped the spear once in a wide arc, then gripped it with both hands, leading with his left. His left foot went out to lead. He looked as ready as he could possibly be.

However he would take the first move. As he settled into his own spear stance he would suddenly rush forward. Nov would probably notice that something was immediately off about this charge though. He accelerated to fast, and he traveled much farther with each step then a normal man should, almost like he was gliding across the ground on skates. He closed the distance quickly. However when one has the range of a spear, one uses it.

As he got close he would land with his right foot and twist his body counter clockwise, and strike out holding the spear only with his right arm. A sharp and quick jab at the man's chest.

Nov watched as the man spoke a few words and then began a mad dash towards him. Foolish. That was the first word that came to mind. Dashing in headfirst into an attack you may or may not be ready for was never a good idea. And Nov was one quick and ruthless in punishment. Nov looked at his opponent, a good 20 paces in front of him, and watched him move for a fraction of a second as he began his dash. His leg muscles were strong, propelling him forward fast, but there was more to it than that. He noticed his dashes moved fast and far, almost missing the ground entirely.

'Rapid acceleration, interesting...'

Nov thought as he stopped his thinking quickly and let his body react. At this point, his opponent probably covered easily a quarter of the distance, if not more, between them. His rapid analysis was quick and superficial if anything. Simply a basis in which to further analyze his foe at hand. Rather than charging as well, Nov lifted the two daggers from his holster. Nov revealed his two long, sharp silver blades.

With a blade in each hand, Nov waisted no time taking his shot. But he didn't let his opponent get much of a look as he, in one smooth motion of his wrist and arms, let the blades fly towards his foe in unison. He lifted the daggers and threw them parallel, each one aimed with a keen precision. The first dagger was aimed at his foe's leading left shoulder and the second into his opponent's right hip. The goal was to force his opponent to slow down and dodge the treacherously fast blades, and buy him time. And even so, the aiming was designed that, if they hit, they'd either nail the cuff rotator of the left wrist, impeding motion, or the femoral artery of the thigh, causing harsh bleeding.

After letting the blades loose, he barreled to the left side with a swift roll as brought his arms parallel to his chest. He intended to flank his opponent should he still be coming towards him. His arms up in a guard that covered his face below the eyes and most of his chest and torso. If his opponent was still paying attention to his foe, he would notice a pair of moderate sized buckler shields on each forearm. They were each about the size of his forearm in diameter, but just short enough not to impede with dextrous movements and wrist motion. He kept his guard as he watched closely, waiting to see what his foe would do.

If he managed to land without being attacked, he would crunch his body and let his arms cover his sides and center. His body would be in a boxing stance with his fists close to his ears and his arms covering his hunched sides. He's let his form lower for a more controlled center of gravity and a smaller surface area for his shields to cover. Otherwise, he would have to react accordingly with whatever his foe manages to do within his reaction time.

Ferris was surprised, for sure, by the attack. Not taken off guard however, just surprised that his opponent would throw the daggers. At the speed the two were going he didn't really have time for complex thoughts. Unfortunately for his opponent, the thrown daggers were not much of a threat. As the daggers bore down on Ferris, his entire body with the next step would suddenly slide several feet to his own right, Nov's left. His stride and speed completely unbroken.

In a brief moment though Ferris did have a realization. An opponent wouldn't just throw away his only weapon. Not without reason. Either they were magically enchanted to chase or come back, or he had many more on his person Ferris at first did not see. It would be interesting to see what he would do now without the obvious weapons, but even Ferris knew the most dangerous blade was the dulled one.

As the Dash came to an end just a moment later, and the daggers passed safely by him and off back somewhere, he would suddenly increase his speed more. He would kick off hard with his current planted foot, and his acceleration would kick off once more, moving fast enough to make Olympic sprinting easy. He seemed to have no trouble altering his course either to once again be making the mad charge towards Nov. He would attempt the same attack as last time, accept this time he would aim for Nov's Left Buckler, or from Ferris perspective the right one. While shields were excellent at stopping the truly dangerous blows, at the speed Ferris was going if he landed chances were good of hurting quite a bit. Broken bones, fractures, or just a really numbing strike.

In the time his foe took to make his rather exaggerated dodge, Nov managed to complete his roll and quickly get into position. He stood on guard and prepared himself for the first blow to come. He watched his opponent's spear with a wary eye and prepared to parry as he saw an opening. Or better yet, something even more devious. Nov began to bob and weave slowly in place as he watched his opponent approach. His torso rocked back in forth as momentum began to generate in his hips and arms.

He did this, and by the time his opponent was in range, Nov's torso was rocking side to side in place. Despite this motion, Nov's eyes remained dead set on his opponent's motion as he seemed to give that he was aiming for his left shield. And as his opponent's spear began it's convergence, Nov began to slide his torso to the right as his smooth buckler shield began to converge at a 45 degree angle to his torso.

His body cringed when he took the blow, but the angle of the shield and his movement to the right allowed the spear to slide off against the smooth exterior of the shield rather than taking full impact. He allowed his moving body to transfer moment away from his arm to avoid any serious injuries, but it still wasn't a smooth evasion.

The angle of the shield helped him avoid the full brunt of the attack, but there was a reason he didn't avoid it all together. He could've angled his shield more perpendicular to his torso to allow for a clean slide, but his foe could turn around, judging by his maneuverability, and counterattack.

No. He wanted to get close, and though the initial shock of the blow hit him hard, he wasn't going to let his foe get away with such a move. As the length of the spear slid along his left arm, Nov's right immediately reached forward. It came in the form of a uppercut aimed for his foe's stomach. His body already had to shift right due to the impact of the spear, and it helped launch his body weight explosively as he stepped in with his right foot. He launched his right arm into his foe's stomach, hoping for a clean impact and much more.

For if this blow landed, the buckler would do more than look pretty as his fist slammed his internal organs. And since he blocked the attack partially, he would force his opponent's momentum to deviate and follow through with the motion of the attack. The impact would give him a prime opportunity to activate his mentally controlled, retractable (hidden) blade, and allowing him to stick 8 inches of hard and wide steel clean through his foe's torso through several of his ribs.

The blade extended from inside the buckler 8 inches over his fist and would be impossible to dodge should his foe be struck by the uppercut. And the beautiful thing was that, even if he missed, he would forgo unveiling his blade and simply have him guessing at what weapons he still has. And if it landed, it would be brutal hit, potentially crippling his opponent should he have no inherent or passive defense.

(OOC: Sorry for the previous post being late. Also, the dagger was aimed for the left shoulder. The cuff rotator in the center of the shoulder as an f.y.i. But it doesn't matter seeing as his maneuver went clean out of the path of the dagger.)

A clever move. A good move. A good, clever move. To bad it wouldn't work. The thing with Ferris particular set of skills and abilities was...well, he didn't care all that much about momentum. Momentum and him had an understanding. In that they left each other alone. Had Ferris been a normal fighter he would have been much harder pressed to turn this fight back to his favor. Then again, without these skills and abilities, he wouldn't have put himself in such a position.

As Nov deftly dodged the dangerous attack, Ferris would flash a smile as his own eyes followed his opponent. As Nov came forward to strike, Ferris would suddenly stop pretty hard for how fast he was going. In fact his entire momentum would suddenly seem to be going away from Nov. He was still moving slightly in the direction he was going, but no movement of his own gave any indication he had kicked off in another direction. As he began to fly back and slow down going in that other direction, he would begin to move his spear up and back and towards Nov, specifically over his shoulder and towards his head. He didn't have much room to build up a strike, but that wasn't the purpose of this counter move.

No. Instead as the spear's wooden length would come up and over to Nov's face, the spear end would come flying down the length of the spear as the weapon began to shrink. However with the spear head behind Nov's field of view he would never see it coming. It wouldn't shorten fast enough to deal a clean swiping cut, but timed right it would drag the barbed edge across the side of Nov's head, and maybe even pull off that mask.

Regardless of the results of the spear move, Ferris would keep moving and seemingly slide across the ground and away from his opponent and his hidden and unknown deadly punch.

Unbelievable. His foe was rapidly decelerating by the time his spear thrust made contact and was already moving backward by the time Nov began lifting his arm to hit. This incredible shift in momentum startled Nov into altering the momentum of his own arms in anticipation. Rather than following through with the punch, Nov flexed his lat's and his right deltoid to hunch the uppercut into a defensive hook that allowed the buckler to cover his face rather than attack.

And lucky he did for his opponent went for a swift, yet light blow across the shield that would've nailed his mask. The coinciding trajectory of the hook and spear allowed the two to coincide for a well timed parry that would throw the spear from right to left. Even though his foe could stop his legs at will, Nov hoped at least his upper body obeyed the laws of physics.

And regardless of whether he did or not, Nov had a hell of a surprise for his opponent.

He used the opportunity to push off his leading right leg. His gymnast training allowed him to jump high enough such that his jump was almost landing on his opponent. He went in for a swift frontal shield bash with his right arm as his left arm lay tucked at his ribcage.

The blow was aimed for his foe's face, trying to hopefully cover his vision or force him to retreat if he could. His left forearm extended past his torso so his fist peaked through the bottom of his right buckler. This was so should he land the shield bash, he could then jab his foe's stomach with his special 'surprise' in his arm.

And while all of this was happening, Nov was giving another mental command, one for enjoyment of the crowd. He commanded the return of the two daggers he threw earlier, controlling their return. He did so such that the two daggers arched silently into his foe's back should he force himself backwards to evade his attack. And the two daggers would run on a right and left curve such that the arch would allow adjustment of trajectory to nail his foe if he also barrel to the left or right.

He did this to pin his opponent, to either completely back off at the risk of the two unknown daggers coming his way or deal with his frontal assault head on at the surprise of the hidden blades he had on him. Either way, this was proving to be an interesting exchange.

His opponent was fast, real fast. His parry of the blind blow was excellent, however his next move was not the best. In fact it left him open for a very powerful and devastating counter attack. Ferris had already begun to move backwards, but as his opponent jumped into the air with unreal air, Ferris saw his opportunity. With his spear now much shorter it was much easier to maneuver with the one hand holding it.

He would begin to fall, literally fall, down. This was to give the most space and best angle for him to move the spear. As his opponent would come down, he would easily dodge the shield bash as he lowered his body, and he would move the spear to aim straight for his gut. Then, the spear would begin to extend back out to it's full length once more. Between the rapidly approaching spear and his opponents, hopefully, lack of ability to control himself mid air, Ferris hoped he would simply skewer himself on the spear.

As for the flying daggers, Ferris couldn't really see them, but hopefully his falling move would also dodge the daggers, and hell, maybe even send them into his opponent, which meant Nov now had to split his concentration between the flying assault, a spear, and two flying daggers. Though really, if he was just now giving the command of the daggers that meant they were still lying some distance off discarded, which meant by the time the current engagement of spear to gut was resolved, chances were the daggers wouldn't quite have made it there just yet.

Falling down into his attack? Now that was a surprise Nov could get into! His eyes gleemed with joy underneath as his opportunity to strike was at hand. Little did he know his foe was already preparing a special surprise for him. He didn't notice as the lance lowered and extended towards his only marginally protected gut. And by the time he noticed, he only had a small window to react.

Now, normally, the average person, in the situation, would try to block or dive back rather than continue. Too bad Nov wasn't that kind of guy. Rather than altering the directive of his motion, he took the lance head on the only way he could. Rather than letting it go to his center, he would use the spear as a gateway of sorts. A way of getting to the oh-so desired close range combat he so sought. He lunged his left arm forward, twisting his body as he moved into the spear. The barbed edge would penetrate his armor for a nice slash mark across his stomach going from left to right in the motion of the twisting of his shoulders. The reason it wasn't debilitating was thanks to the protective gear he wore rather than casual clothing. But it was still painful and prove costly should he not end the match now.

But he was going for a stab this time. He, instead, he used his left arm to grab his foe's wrist one he got in close. The result was having the spear rake across his left center stomach to his right shoulder and leaving a longer cut. This would occur since he would be using his foe's wrist as a way of pulling himself into his opponent. The spear would likely end up with it's shaft next to Nov's right ear after the fact, but that left him in the best position possible. He would end up landing on his opponent with his body weight crashing on his already descending path.

And this is where things would potentially end in the bloodiest manner possible. Nov's right arm, which he could've used to block, now coiled back and would slam into his opponent's chest. The arm was already raised as his right shoulder had to lean back to allow his left to thrust forward. At the same impact would occur, the dagger would uncoil and penetrate clean through his foe's torso (should he have no protective gear).

And to top it all off, the two dagger would begin to descend. That is right, descend unto his foe's figure. For these weren't normal throwing knives no. Nov had complete control of the knives' trajectory as they returned to him, and this allowed him to do moves like this. They would penetrate his foe's right and left shoulder at the cuff rotator's, most likely leaving him unable to lift a spear thanks to the fact the daggers would likely be lodged between the joints.

Let's see his foe get out of this one now that his spear, his weapon of choice, was the potential cause of his demise...

Ferris would never even let his opponent land before reacting. Nov's reaction time was excellent, but so was Ferris'. The mid air twist was a good move, but his grabbing of the wrist was a terrible move. Ferris had two hands on the spear, with his left most hand further up, and the one Nov would grab. He would grab the wrist, not the spear. Time would seem to slow down, but not really, just for dramatic effect.

As soon as Nov had dodged the spear it's growth would suddenly stop, and in fact, reverse, making it slightly shorter again. However this is wear Nov had fumbled. Now shorter and still free to move it with one hand, his right, he would re-position it to the obvious path with barely a flick. Instead of the longer pole-arm ending near Nov's right ear, it would suddenly flick, at the last moment, to just in front of the punching arm's bicep.

Then the coup de grace. As his opponent would land Ferris body would suddenly lift forward, pushing the spear forward into Nov's punching arm. His body would then continue to rise, and his legs would swing behind him and up, inverting his body over his opponent, and hopefully twisting the now puncturing spear as he rose. As for his grabbed wrist Nov would either still be holding it or not, either way Ferris would be out of the way of the flying daggers and above Nov's body.
