Mercy had waited until the day after the hatching feast before announcing that the newest Weyrlings would have their first lesson. She had wanted to give them all time to adjust to life with their bondmate's before she added the pressure of lessons to the mix, but she didn't want to wait too long..in case some of them had questions on how to care for their new lifemates.
Today's lesson would be fairly simple, just the basics of hatchling care and answering any questions the new Weyrlings might have and Mercy was looking forward to getting to know her new students. With the young Atypicals in mind she had chosen a site fairly close to the weyrling barracks and Aerith had curled up to the side of the clearing, dozing as her rider organized the small amount of supplies she would need for the lesson, humming a tune as she did so.
Lesson - Question and Answer, overview of Oiling, feeding and exercise

While Kindra had greeted the new weyrlings when giving them their knots but besides Eiran, she hadn't gotten to talk at length with any of them. Well, she'd been told their first official lesson was today so she'd asked Suunath where the White Dragon was and had mounted up, choosing a Flashy entrance (and lazyness) over walking through the weyr to the barracks. That and she wanted to make sure she got there before the lesson began, after all, she wouldn't want to interrupt it.
They landed in the clearing and Kindra dismounted, heading for Mercy while Suunath greeted Aerith, she didn't have any bias over color but the white dragon was a curiosity for her as it was clear that Blacks, Silvers and Crimson were more evident in existence than Whites, she knew of no other, neither did Hers. She lay nearby the White but not so close she was intruding on the other's space if she wished for it. "Greetings Aerith, You are well?" she rumbled pleasantly.
Kindra hadn't told the White's rider she was turning up to the lesson, her intentions were to observe her Suunath's babies with their bonded but who knew what could be racing through the Weyrlingmaster's mind. "Greetings Werylingmaster Mercy" she said politely enough, extending a hand towards the other woman.
(note, Kindra and Suunath are here on approval from Jet, they will not interfere in the lesson and are merely observers... unless it's clear that some higher authority is needed lol.. extra note... there can be weyrlings present before Suunath arrives, but NO ONE would know she was coming, not even Mercy or Aerith, until they actually landed)

The sound of wingbeats warned Mercy of another arrival..even as they woke Aerith, who had been taking advantage of the lull before the storm so to speak to take a nap in the sun. Turning to see who had dropped by she was more then a little bit surprised to see a gold and her rider. Sunnath and Kindra to be precise. Interesting - Mercy had not expected to be watched over today but she supposed it was normal for the pair to be interested in their clutches.. especially their first. Or perhaps the women had heard about the incident with her last class and was questioning her ability to handle her students..she was a Benden goldrider after all and Aerith, as far as she knew, wasn't on their roster as 'acceptable colors'..though she hadn't had any troubles about that so far.
'I'm sure they are just checking the Weyrlings, I hear no malice in the gold..she's being perfectly friendly.' Aerith remarked to Mercy, before turning her head to croon a pleased greeting to the much larger dragon. 'Sunnath, it is good of you to come, we are excited about the new class of students...how are you and yours?'
Deciding that Aerith had the right of it..and not really being the type to dwell on possible negatives for very long Mercy offered the goldrider a welcoming smile and accepted the handshake. "Weyrwomen, welcome! Come to see how the hatchlings are doing?"

"We are well, Mine wishes to see how my Hatchlings are with their bonded" she replied to the white, her mental tone smiling and perhaps a little prideful of her babies, though any real maternal bonds had been broken the moment they Impressed Hers was proud of them and so was she.
"I am, they are Suunath's first clutch and i am interested to see just what they know about caring for a dragon, especially since several Impressed outside the Weyr" she replied, not adding that she wanted to see if they were good enough for her Suunath's babies.. not that anything could be done about it now but she would observe those that were lacking or misbehaving and perhaps talk with them later on. "Don't mind me, i'm not going to interfere in your lesson Weyrlingmaster, i'm sure you're perfectly capable, or you wouldn't be the Weyrlingmaster" she smiled, no malice in her tone but with the wrong person her words could be mistaken for some sort of attitude. "I'll be over by the benches if you do decide you need some help" she smiled, lingering for a moment to listen to Mercy's reply before going to sit on the benches she had indicated.

Ahmenna was awake with the first light. It was still strange not to be on a deck, watching the sun rise. But the tasks were just as hard. This time, she had been told not to feed Phiroth too much because of lessons. She pulled on her clothes and turned to face the green on her little cot. Blue-green eyes whirled with almost a curious stare on her face. Ahmenna continued to get herself ready. "Are you ready for today?"
Phiroth yawned, as if she was already bored with the idea.
Ahmenna laughed. "You sound like me. I like it." Tapping her side, she motioned for Phiroth to follow after her. The two were already working out hand signals and motions for them to understand in times when they couldn't talk. "Come on."
Phiroth moved off the cot and to her rider's side. The pair were one of the first one's to arrive to the lesson area. Ahmenna saw the white dragon and she also saw Suunath off to the side. Hmm, the new weyrling wondered if they were to be judged today. Bowing to both Mercy and Kindra, the pair settled and waited for class to start.

<...I could have caught it under the water, Mine. I could have if you had let me play in the deeper water instead of insisting on scrubbing me for so long.> Laeonaith was chiding his rider as they approached the lesson-site. They had made time for a very quick swim that morning, in the water as the dawn was breaking. It had been pleasantly brisk, with only one small incident in which Laeonaith had decided he ought to chase after a fish and Eiran had experienced some difficulty convincing his bondmate that they just weren't ready for deeper water, and that there would be time to catch fish later.
"I'm sure you could have caught it, Laeo. But we have our lesson to get to, and I'm not the greatest swimmer."
Laeonaith's tone was mollified, The little bronze pranced in circles around his rider as they came closer to the little group that was starting to gather.
Eiran smiled. At least Laeonaith seemed interested in the other dragons, since he had not been terribly keen on the prospect of lessons that morning. Eiran had to admit, he was rather apprehensive at the thought of their first lesson as well. But he put on a bright smile; as long as his beloved Laeonaith was happy, there could be nothing wrong in the world.

Wen finished in the feeding of his flit fair, stowing the now empty bowl that had been licked clean of even juice under the bench. Rynsemth had snatched a few pieces, the black slowly cleaning his muzzle, lazing on the floor but hide shiny and clean. Wen washed his hands thoroughly in the basin, drying them and returned to finishing his half plaited braid. He reached for the simple lace tie and nodded, taking it from his eldest flit instead of picking it up from the table. "Thank you, Noche." Wen tied his hair and stuffed most of the tail down the back of his shirt to keep it out of the way.
"Nearly," Wen replied, straightening the collar of his jacket, smoothing the buttons. 'You seem rather anxious for a lesson we had a private hands on experience with.' He knelt, running sure hands over his partners inky hide, checking to make sure any rough dry patches had been taken care of. Rynsemth leaned into his partners hands, eyes whirling peaceful blue green as sure fingers checked him over one last time. He shifted, wiggling till Wen obediently scratched a spot behind his head knobs. Wen stroked Rynsemth head and turned a level gaze at his flits. "Now, all of you are to behave. Cat, you are to keep control of everyone, not disappear." He reaffirmed his order with a picture of all his flits remaining in his room till they return. He kept a level stare at the small brown leader till he got an affirmative chirp. The diminutive rider nodded and strolled forward, opening the door and stepped out into the hall. Rynsemth joined him a moment latter, and Wen relaxed his strides as they walked towards the lesson. He did not need to stretch his legs to keep up with taller guard mates, well riders now. He glanced around at the pairs already here. 'None of your siblings are here yet.' Rynsemth replied and settled down near his rider, posed and relaxed. He muttered, peering at the young queen next to the much smaller white dragon. 'I am not sure, likely she and her rider are checking up on their hatchlings.' Wen shrugged slightly, settling a hand on Rynsemth's head. 'I doubt it is overly important.'

Miath yawned, triggering an echoing yawn from Cai at her side. ~ I only just ate. Must we do this now? I would much rather go back to sleep.~ The patterned little crimson took her time with each small step, hoping that her rider might give in this once. Her blue eyes were coy as she gave her rider a mental nudge, yawning again deliberately.
Cai stiffled another yawn. "Stop that. Yes we have to do this now Miath. They're not going to reschedule an entire lesson because you're lazy." She could see the group gathering as they rounded the Weyrling Barracks. "Besides, look. The other hatchlings are there." distraction had so far proved useful to the hatchling, especially if the distraction was other dragons. Cai may like her private time to do her work, but Miath was painfully social. Any moment spent alone was a stain upon her day.
Miath didn't pick up her steps at all but Cai could feel the sudden swirl of interest in the crimson's mind. Cai took note of who was already there, Wen and Rynsemth, she remembered him from the Hatching, as well as the young bronze who had hatched elsewhere, and a green... one she couldn't recall anything about at the moment. The Weyrlingmaster was there with her dragon, always a curiosity, but Cai recalled them to be hard workers during a Fall and so she approved already of who would be teaching them.
Then there was Suunath. Cai had mixed emotions. The gold was a Benden queen, from Cai's own home and mother to her own dragon, but Miath was a crimson. A crimson born to a Benden gold. Cai had no problems with the dragon and rider herself, but she bristled and braced herself in case Kindra had a problem with her.

Luckily for the little atypical, her rider all but adopted herself the masterhealer Bereck. He'd once taken her under his wing when Rochelle sat cowering in the infirmary back in Malvren, all too fluffy pigtails and hunched shoulders with no idea how to put on a game face. Over the course of that turn, he and Aleck became the staples that pieced up a shaky existence with Rocham in the bed. Even once she left, Rochelle didn't forget. Being all together at Trine meant she ran back to him with questions and concerns as always most notable being Kibeth.
He gave her oil and tips, along with Mal and Bel. Because of him Rochelle had the softest hands ever after only four days. Wake up, feed, wash and oil seemed to be a rather steady beat for her and her dragonkin drum. Kibeth didn't sport even a single crack with her regular oilings, her little belly still round and her eyes hooded and sleepy even as she moved around Rochelle's feet like a canine pup in small steps. She chirped and bumped close to her rider as they approached the small crowd.
Do you remember any of them? She said, her face thrust against whatever part of Rochelle's leg she could reach in a nearly affectionate headbutt.
"I know the other crimsonrider," she murmured. Rochelle leaned down and patted at Kibeth's headknobs. "We didn't get along."
I'm betting you were a deadglow.
Rochelle snorted but didn't deny it, pausing once they were in the outskirts of the little group. She nodded an acknowldgement to the Weyrlingmaster but her real attention kept flitting around, waiting for her two friends. She'd been snarky to Cai back in the Bastion - Kibeth sent a snort of stupid at her - and she didn't much know the others. Perhaps for the best, really as she wasn't always the nicest of girls. C'tis and Aleck didn't seem to mind. That's why she waited for them.
Kibeth swiveled her head to look at her crimson hatching-time-almost-sibling. She reached out her voice to Miath, voice a light drawl meant to be curious. What is your riders name? Mine thinks of her as 'Freckles' but I'm doubting it's her real name and I'm curious.

<...You kidding me? The gold is here?> C'tis, approaching the lesson, scowled as he watched the big dragon land.
Snorted Malcarreth, who padded along by his side.
C'tis expression shifted to a shark-grin at this, but as he got closer to the lesson that grin became sunny and bright. "Rochelle!" he called with a wave. Come up beside her he said; "Can you believe one of the Weyrwomen is here? I didn't think they had time to waste on things like this! It's quite an honour to see her here, don't you agree?" Exactly how long he was going to keep this up in the presence of said gold rider C'tis hadn't decided, but he and his his earnest Harper tones were having fun for now.
Malcarreth said privately to the crimson.

Here came a few more familiar faces. Cai said nothing and other than folding her arms over her chest to wait, did little in response to their arrival. She felt strange around them, Bereck's children. Especially these two. The young healer girl, while too skittish for her own craft, at least managed to do what she could for Bereck, and followed commands well enough to be of help during the Feast incident. Of Bereck's son Cai knew little, other than he hadn't been an irritant when she'd first met him.
An absent smile flickered across her lips as Miath curled up into a ball against her feet. Little green eyes whirled from where her head rested, lighting up with curiosity as Kibeth and Malcarreth arrived. ~ Freckles? I've not heard her called that. If she had, she'd forgotten. ~ Her name is Chrysicai... ~ She replied honestly if just a touch guarded. ~ Why does she call her Freckles? ~ Miath may be generally relaxed and sharing, but on this occasion, she knew better than to make her conversation known to Cai. Her's was touchy about her name for some unfathomable reason and this might upset her.

Iafri didn't really want to go to the lesson. The again, she didn't really want to go much of anywhere, except home, but that wasn't possible. In lieu of that, she would have settled for pretty much anywhere but with the other Weyrlings, or any other Weyrfolk for that matter. Running off with Girofleth and hiding in the jungle, however, was not an option; instead, the girl had so far just skulked at the fringes of whatever was going on and spoken only when prompted.
...she had convinced Girofleth to sneak out of the barracks and sleep outside with her, though. She was immensely uncomfortable with being inside, and the green had realized that Hers wasn't going to get any sleep otherwise - and had calmly explained as much when they were found outside that morning instead of in their bunk. Whether or not they would be able to continue to do so remained to be seen.
When time came for their lesson, the little green nudged her rider along to keep her moving in the right direction, and eventually they arrived despite Iafri trying tod rag her feet to delay the inevitable. All will be well, my Iafri. There are things that we must learn.
Aerith, she acknowledged politely, eyes whirling pleasant colors. And hello to you as well, my Mother. 'Mother' was spoken much like a title for Suunath, formal, but not without warmth.

The glasscrafter grinned when C'tis came into view. One small hand went into the air or a quick wave, although the grin faded into a skeptical stare at his bright adorable smile. It took all of two seconds for her face to melt into a little croon, pursed lips and all. "Awww, and here I thought that smile was all for me. For shame, C'tis, a goldrider?" She heaved an over the top sigh, the very pinnacle of drama and sadness, but waved him on with a sniffle. "Maybe she's here to watch her preciouses."
I'm assuming it's because your rider has freckles. It's not an insult, I think. You can tell when she's insulting. Kibeth craned her head in an attempt to try and get a good view of Cai but ended up giving up and settling in where they sat. She stretched her wings, snort-sneezing. The little crimson passed on the information to Rochelle who, to her credit, blinked in surprised.
I could have sworn it was shorter than that... Are you sure?
Chrysicai. That's what she said, pay attention.
I am. But, could've sworn... Hrm. Squishy face aside, she glanced at Cai anyway and offered a little smile.
The little crimson peered at her clutchbrother and chirped in greeting to him. She spoke to him privately in return, amusement laced with her droll voice. And you, Mablcarreth. They're going to eventually have to blame Aleck for not keeping him in check. He'll be unable to fly. She stretched slowly, tail flicking up high in the air. Your rider is going to be starting a ruckus, isn't he?

Jaggeth and Roscoe arrived a bit later then some of the others and like them was a bit surprised to see Kindra and Sunnath...unlike some of the others however Roscoe was delighted to see her and gave her a bright smile before directing Jaggeth to a place off to the side though the brown chirped a happy greeting.
'Greetings friends!' He sent out to all the nearby hatchlings. 'I hope you are all well?'.
'please behave Jag' Roscoe asked his dragon ' we are here for a lesson, not to socialize'
'Can't we do both? I merely want to know how they are doing.'
'I'm sure they're fine, they all look fine.' Roscoe pointed out, glancing around at his fellow Weyrlings and offering a slight nod.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Understandable' The white replied although the little dragon's attention was then turned towards the arriving hatchling to whom she crooned a cheerful welcome to each in turn. 'Welcome' She told them all 'We are glad that you are here.'
"Impressing outside the Weyr might be a bit of a challenge for some of them." Mercy agreed "But once you've impressed I can't see anyone neglecting their lifebond..so it's less the care of the dragons I think will be the challenge but the change in lifestyle. I'm sure they will adjust swiftly, the young are adaptable like that." Mercy assured the goldrider. Certainly they were far more adaptable then she was..it still amazed her how quickly the candidates here had come to terms with the changes. That wasn't to say some were not scarred by the events and likely would have lasting troubles with it..but they had, as a whole, moved on with life far quicker then the older riders.
As Kindra moved off Mercy turned her attention back to the assembling students, as she had guessed earlier it looked like it was going to be a good sized class. Some of them at least seemed to know one another quite well and were happily socializing..others looked like they wanted to be anywhere but here. Well..maybe that would change once they newcommers made friends. "Hello everyone." She called out a pleased greeting to those assembled. "I'm Mercy, Aerith's rider" She motioned to the white who trilled a greeting of her own. "And we would like to welcome you to Weyrling lessons. First a few ground rules..I know - how dull - but they are important, while in class I expect you all to pay attention, respect and help each other, there will be times that some of you might already know the skills we are working on and in that case I expect you to help those who do not, you must all learn to work together - even if you don't like each other - much as you will have to work together in a wing someday..and above all else I expect you all to conduct yourselves in a safe manner, you are no longer responsible for simply your own safety but that of your dragons and impulsive, reckless behavior will not be accepted. On spotting Cai, C'tis raised a hand to wave a vague greeting; she'd seemed alright, as much as there had been time to tell during the whole mess at Malvren. Turning back to Rochelle he put on a slightly affronted look. "Well I wasn't going to go up and talk to her. Far be it from the likes of me to waste her time, and anyway, we need to focus on our studies if we are to grow up well and take our proper places in wings." Rochelle could be whatever she wanted, and he could not. He was really trying not not get resentful about that. Malcarreth said aloud, Then, to Miath; It was a simple greeting, but given C'tis had vaguely positive feelings about her rider (by C'tis' standards at any rate) he wanted to acknowledge her at least. As Mercy started speaking C'tis turned around to pay attention. Much as he was resentful of authority and suspected that he knew the basics thanks to the (intense) attention of Aleck's father, he wasn't about to mess around in lessons. Much as he would like to scoff and roll his eyes at the oh-so-special white rider she was correct. Behave himself. Be a good boy... relatively. He reserved the right to snark quietly at non critical moments.
