User ImageThe border patrol along the edge of Sunflare territory was going well today. Lami and Mintos were on patrol on the northern and western fringes, while Sepaia's son Llew had taken the southern edge. That left the brilliantly-colored arcturus mare to take the eastern front. Patrols were routine--scenting and looking out for strangers and predators, making note of any changes, such as new cover or new animals in the area. Everyone in Burning Sun ran border patrols, even the bards. It was one of the clan's habits, and though the Burning Sun might not be as large as the royal family's clan, they were tasked with protecting those who could not defend themselves. A twice-daily run over the local land would prevent difficulties from arising later on.

Besides, as Lami had pointed out just the other day, patrols resulted in the most interesting of meetings. Sepaia herself had to agree with that--she'd met some interesting people on patrol, such as the angel in the tree or the spotted stallion. Today looked like another day for socialization--just in the distance, she could see an arion stallion--arion arcturus, she corrected herself. Why was it always a stallion? "Hello out there!" she called out. She didn't dare come any closer--though the stallion did not look foul, he could still be a member of Blod's herd, a scout or maybe even a spy. She would stay safe over here until she knew she was in no danger.

User ImageGo speak with the sunflare herd he'd be told by his king, form an alliance to protect from the coming darkness. That king of his had always been sensitive toward things that were coming from another herd, Emerys and Keira always helped him along with that also however gawain found he hadn't done enough though he helped the young king train, man the kid was good and he learned quickly even Gawain already had a hard time keeping up with 'im so he offered to meet the sunflare.

He hadn't seen anyone ant all, was this really the border? Gawain wasn't sure, until he herd a voice, that mare over there was calling to him, must be the patrol, so he had come to the right place excellent, she was quite a pretty mare too, he wondered if she was strong to match, but enough of that formal introductions were in order, Arch would never forgive him if he messed this up, at least he'd get constantly teased by the other knights he sighed inwardly before announcing himself "Hello and Well met, I am Sir Gawain," the arion crossbreed bowed on the edge of the boarder careful not to cross it "I come from Llyn Dinas, by my King I am here to speak with you of an alliance."

He was famously know in his herd as 'the maiden's knight' for all his flirting, he was going to have to watch himself here a little more carefully.

Now that she could see the stallion more clearly, she saw the wrap around his neck and his proud bearing. He...could be a Shadow spy...but he could also be a possible ally. Sepaia decided to trust his word. If not...well, her champions outnumbered him. He could be fought off (assuming he didn't have reinforcements). Besides, she'd never heard of an arion in Shadow. "Well-met, Sir Gawain!" she said in reply when she was closer. "I am Sepaia, rhia of Burning Sun, the warrior clan of Sunflare. On behalf of Ard-Rhigh Lughnasadh, I welcome you to Sunflare land." She smiled. "You caught me in the middle of the morning patrol, I admit. Perfect time to catch me--I was just finishing up." She gave him one more look, up and down. Sir Gawain looked to be a fine specimen of a fighter--muscles, elegance, grace. A strong fighter. She wondered if he would be interested in sparring with her. She liked a good practice fight, and if he really was here for an alliance, it might be a good way to assess their strength.

"I'm not sure where the Ard-Rhigh is at the moment," she admitted. "But I know some places he might be, if you would like to follow me?" She gestured with her head back into the territory. Her patrol was mostly done--if she saw another member of Burning Sun, she would direct them to complete her rounds. She didn't like delegating her tasks, but if she had to, she would.

"Truly a pleasure Lady Sepaia" Gawain gave the mare a nod and another elegant bow, a knight was always courteous to a lady, not matter if such a lady was a fine warrior courtesy still must be given "I am glad," the stallion laughed lightly. It surprised him he had caught her at such a good time, Then again he always seemed to have good luck when it came to mares, except maybe that one time.. but he had such a sweet daughter and a son he'd like to know more of he really didn't think it too much a mistake even if it was an accident.

That rather embarrassing bit aside she was quite a pretty mare, she had good muscle structure too, he wondered, would he be allowed to test such a thing with a sparing match? Or would it sound strange coming from a stallion on a diplomatic mission to ask for such a thing? He was far more used to the field of battle than this 'diplomatic' thing.

"That is fine I'm sure I can be happy talking to such a fine guard as yourself," he smiled unintentionally charmingly, it just happened he couldn't help it. He did as he was instructed and followed the mare.

"Would it be over the line to ask for you as a sparing partner to perhaps pass the time?" he offered what could go wrong? though he prayed such a thing wasn't an insult.

Guard? Well, that was slightly...not insulting, per se, but it was a bit of a pinch to the ego. True, she did guard things, but she considered herself more of a, a guardian than a guard. And even then, she thought of herself as a champion before all else. But the sort of stars to use words like "king" and "knight" (as implied by his title, Sir Gawain) tended to have strict definitions of the word "champion." He might take it the wrong way if she referred to herself as a champion, even if all warriors in Sunflare were referred to as such. She wasn't sure who might know the protocol on that. Mentally, she went through the list. Her son, Llew? Unlikely. Other than his bardic knowledge, his knowledge tended to be similar to hers. She had raised him, after all. Garmionnt, then? Well, he was a bard, and bards had the knowing of things beyond mere soldiers (even if they'd been raised by mere soldiers). More importantly, Garmionnt had learned much of the world from Mintos, and Mintos was a wanderer before he'd joined Sunflare. Garmionnt would surely know about courtly protocol. She'd ask him if she encountered the black stallion.

Well, whatever phraseology he used, he did sound charming saying it. She found herself flashing him another smile. "I'm glad I can provide such entertainment to a well-wandered warrior such as yourself," she replied. The other thing he said only deepened her smile and coaxed a chuckle fromher. "And no, I do not think it would be over the line to ask to spar. To tell the truth, I was hoping that you would agree to one. I'm the head of Sunflare's forces, and I like to learn new techniques, especially from allies and friendly strangers."

"We go where we are needed, and protect those who otherwise cannot themselves." it was one of the codes of his herd he was thankful for the chance to explore different places and to be needed by his king. "And I am glad welcome such fine company as a champion of the sunflare." he realized his mistake and corrected himself as she had done for him so politely.

Gawain returned Sepia's smile with is own charming one, Ah she had been thinking very much the same thing as he had, how coincidental, if it was perhaps that. At least the time would go fast during a spar and he could meet with the leader soon after, perhaps he'd tidied up again. he had been told to watch his appearance as he left by one of the other knights as a jest.

"Good fortune then, I too enjoy learning new techniques, the knights spar with each other and our young king quite often," he explained before a brief pause remembering their past spar. All of them had been worn out, and the King teased them for more, it was a grand play, they would not refuse their friend and ruler, "though our young king quickly surpassed us all, with wit and strength." he explained "we all try and return stronger, but our king seems to best us every time." there was no bitterness in his voice only respect and loyalty to a good friend, he couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. No they would never beat their young King.

"Please lead the way Lady Sepia to your sparring grounds." he gave her
another bow.

Sir Gawain was definitely, definitely a charmer of the highest degree. And though she didn't like suck-ups, brown-noses, or sycophants, Sepaia found herself liking the knight. His compliments were not to worm themselves into her favor, but rather came across as honest and respectful words to a friend. Yes, she definitely wanted to befriend him, and not just for a potential ally. "That's the worthiest goal I've yet heard," she said. "Unfortunately, I'm bound by duty to stay here and keep our herd's land safe. We have enemies too nearby to let me travel much, though I would dearly love to."

The idea of their king sparring with the knights made her chuckle. "Okay, I'm jealous," she admitted. "Our Ard-Rhigh is a fighter, but he doesn't do much training with the rest of us. I'm afraid we just get to spar with each other instead. We'd love some more variety, to be honest--we know each other's best moves now. Routine is fine and all, but when you're preparing for a fight with an unpredictable enemy, it's good to be kept on your guard."

Sepaia lead the way in front of the ambassador. "Are you sure you want to spar first?" she said. "Only I would think you would have to talk to our leader first? Besides, I wouldn't want to muss up your look before an audience. We must have you making a good impression, right?" She was eager to have some fun--oh, yes, she was. But she didn't want to do it at the expense of getting her new friend in trouble.

Gawain understood duty, and how both a gift and burden it could be but he had a thought " with enemies so close," the stallion paused "if the alliance between our herds goes well Llyn Dinas, could provide roads safe to travel?" he offered "providing you the chance you desire Lady Sepaia." it was another reason he hoped this alliance went well. Gawain would love to visit this place again especially for fine company.

"Not many leaders spar among their warriors" Gawain did understand the "If you come to my home, The Young king would certainly spar with you Lady if you wish it." Gawain smiled charmingly "He never reuses a challenge even from one not of the herd." Their king was certainly an odd one especially as leaders went. It was refreshing their home was full of different fighting styles.

Gawain nodded after pausing in thought it would be best if he stayed in prime form, but then again Gawain, could tidy himself quite quickly; it was a gift. Gawain grinned "I do clean up easy," he laughed lightly. her home too was quite something he took note as they walked.

The lands of the Sunflare herd were rolling and frolicking hills covered in green and gold grass, dotted with groves of redwood, oak, and sycamore. All the way down to the western ocean, where the dunes swayed with beach buckwheat and dunegrass. Sepaia had never once in her five years of living here grown tired of it. How could she? The place was too beautiful even to believe. She was happy to have someone to show it to. "If our alliance provides safe roads, then I will gladly visit your herd and take your king up on his exciting offer." She grinned at him. "A challenge sounds a little off-putting, but, yes, I'd like to test my strength against the king of Llyn Dinas, if he would like to spar with me. So long, of course, as my herd is safe in my absence." That would always be here greatest concern, for now and forever.

It was tempting. Oh, so tempting, that it tugged at her mind until she had to stop and think. "No," she said, finally, regretfully. "Our duties to our herds and to good stars everywhere must come first. First, I will take you to the Ard-Righ, then we shall spar and trade stories. Does that sound reasonable?" she added.

He did hope the alliance would be successful, so far his trip here had been quite pleasant. If the Ard Righ was anything like the lady here though it certainly would. "It would be most wonderful if you did Lady Sepaia, the king, would never refuse a challenge especially from a noble lady like yourself." He Grinned back at her "Perhaps at that time I may show you my wonderous home as you are showing me yours." Wouldn't that be wonderful? Their home was just as lovely as this place, a bit less flat, more trees and mountains reaching for the sky.

Gawain would have rather sparred sooner but Sepaia was correct. She was such a lovely spirited lady duty bound like many of them. It rather prevented having a bit of fun before duty though. "Of course, till later than M'lady?" Gawain unintentionally smiled charmingly or so it looked.

"To your Ard-Righ then shall we?"

Sepaia grinned at Gawain. "I look forward to visiting your kingdom with impatience, Sir Gawain. I haven't been away from Sunflare land in quite a long time." Ever since she'd joined, in fact...now there was a startling fact. It would be nice to have a vacation. And she could leave Llewelyn in charge as a test of his leadership skills. Yes, this was sounding better and better! But they would need an alliance first. Ah. As ever, duty got in the way of old-fashioned fun. "Come with me, I will show you to the Ard-Righ's home." She flicked her tail and led the way. I hope Llyn Dinas know what a jewel they have in Sir Gawain.
