There was a misconception that the eldest son of Xenon was lazy. Good for nothing, lack lustre and introverted. Many assumed he slept all day and it was common 'knowledge' that he was never known to eat... and yet, for some peculiar reason he never appeared to be malnourished or unhealthy. He had never sought to dispel these rumours actively and instead he had let the naive paint their own pictures - in time, they would learn the truth.

...You see, this particular lion did not always 'sleep'. What looked like sleep was often an overwhelming vision, one of which thrust him into the depths of an unseen and ethereal world. He saw, he heard, he watched as fate unfolded before him and it was only when this 'tale' was complete that he would awaken from his 'slumber' and satiate thirst and hunger.

Suffice to say, that like all seers he lacked the ability to 'control' the powers he possessed.

Alas, this afternoon was to prove a bit of an exception for him as his 'dream' was cut short. Something had disturbed him, something nearby that was not like others...

Today was going to be a wonderful day, Samaki was certain of it. She could smell the tang in the air that meant the sea was nearby, feel moisture in the air,and felt a thrill all the way through her bones. The ocean was near. The ocean. The biggest body of water she had ever come near, the one that she didn't think she could ever go across, but would always love with every bit of her body. It was nearby, and as a result Samaki believed that there could be only good things waiting for her today.

Good things came with water, in her mind, and the more water, the more good things! Well... usually. Floods weren't so good, she supposed, but still - water!

The pink lioness continued on the path she had been walking for quite some time now, hoping that soon she would be able to see what she knew was waiting for her. She didn't really expect to run into any other lions right now - why should she? This was a nice, solitary walk! Humming happily to herself, the young adult paused to swat lightly at a pebble that was in her path before beginning to move on.

Clink. Clop. Rustle.

Euphrates's ears flicked towards the tumbling pebble and he slowly turned his head. Remaining silent, he lifted a brow and waited patiently for the individual who caused such a disruption to reveal themselves. Sure enough it wasn't long before his curiosity was sated; the pink lioness wandered into view and it would have taken a blind lion to miss her. Bright pink and not in the slightest bit stealthy, she was wandering in a seemingly aimless fashion towards the beach...which would seem logical if she had been a familiar face.

In recent weeks the Bahari had been somewhat wary of strangers due to the cubnappings, however she didn't seem like the type and perhaps this was why she had slipped through the net. Curious. It wasn't often that lions sought the water, if you had never been raised near it...it was either a foreign concept or completely unknown.

"Good afternoon," he said at last, electing to express some form of manners.

To say that Samaki was startled by running into someone else was an understatement. "Oh! Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," the pink lioness exclaimed, backpedaling a bit. "I was just... the ocean's close, and I was hoping to see it..." Lowering her head, Samaki scuffed at the ground with a paw and sighed.

"Am I intruding somewhere? If so, I really am very sorry. I just wasn't to be near the water again." Though she had been expecting only good things today, Samaki couldn't help but be afraid that this was going to be something less than pleasant. Most of her encounters with others of her kind had been short and involved chasing her away.

Maybe that wouldn't happen this time? Lifting her head again, Samaki turned golden eyes onto the blue and gray lion, daring to hope that he would at least let her go to the beach and watch the ocean for a few minutes before running her off.

"It would depend on your definition of intruding, I suppose," the lion replied with a mild smile. He made no attempts to move, seemingly comfortable as he reclined on the boulders. Suffice to say that the Bahari were extraordinarily relaxed and in the face of a lioness who didn't have a shred of hostility, he saw no reason to display any in return.

"By definition you are on lands possessed by my pride," he explained and then shrugged, "That is intrusion, but as we do not regard it as a criminal act I have no reason to turn you away," he continued and shook his head. "We are just unaccustomed to visitors, particularly those who deliberately seek out the ocean to entertain themselves."

"Those who are not born near the ocean rarely know of its existence, they're often afraid of it," he cast his eyes towards her coat and shook his head slowly. "But your coat indicates that you have not lived on the coast as long as a newborn, you are not from these parts..." he concluded and lifted a paw to point towards one of the more weather beaten trails. "Regardless I have a duty to welcome you, the ocean is just down that path."

"Oh- oh, really?" Samaki answered, perking up when she sensed no hostility coming from the stranger. "Would it be alright for me to go down to it, however briefly? I just love water," she said, and paced back and forth as words began to spill from her mouth like liquid from a fountain.

"I was born inland, you see, and saw mostly water holes in my cubhood, and they were never big enough, and too still, and then I wandered far enough that I found the ocean, and I just - I just loved it so much, you see, so I've been trying to stay somewhat near it in my wanderings so I can keep going back to it." Ending her monologue with a happy sigh, Samaki sat down and curled her tail around her ankles.

Perhaps she was saying too much, or getting ahead of herself. But if he was friendly - if this pride was friendly - then surely they understood the love she had for the water. After all, they had chosen to make their home near it, if this was their territory.

"That path, you said?" She asked, waving a paw in the direction of the place she thought he had indicated. "Ahh, where are my manners? My name is Samaki. It's nice to meet you."

She certainly gave away a lot of information without being prompted! Euphrates made sure to remain silent and she soon painted a picture of who and what she was - a landlocked lioness who had fallen in love with the water. He'd met a few, once the initial curiosity had dissipated a lion either learned to fully appreciate what lay before them or they simply drifted away again...in Samaki's case, she had followed the path of the Bahari. Admittedly there were differences, to the Bahari the ocean was a way of life as opposed to something to admire, but they had always appreciated those who saw its majesty.

"It is certainly a benevolent entity," he agreed. With a yawn he pulled himself to his paws and gave an elongated stretch. Forget Samaki's lack of manners, where were his! His parents had raised him better than this, regardless of how boisterous his mother might have been. "Euphrates at your service," he added following her own introductions.

Stepping down from the boulders he then proceeded towards the beaten track and nodded for her to follow. "It's this way," he repeated and then began to walk, though he did call back to her one more time. "And you can stay for as long as you want, travellers are always welcome here so long as they cause no harm."

Entity? Samaki hadn't thought much about the ocean beyond being pretty and wet, but she didn't mention it as such. After all, if the ocean was an entity of some kind, then it might not appreciate her thinking such rude things about it for so long! Oh, gosh, had she been offending it all this time?!? 'I'm sorry,' she thought, trying to 'direct' her words to the water. 'I didn't know!'.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Euphrates," she said aloud, smiling at the lion. How nice of him to introduce himself, she didn't think he really had to if he didn't want to. As he moved off, she trotted after hi, "Really? Oh, thank you, I would love to stay for a little while!" The pink lioness bobbed her head as she walked along, following closely after her temporary companion.

"Thank you for showing me where to go," she added. And though she didn't say it out loud, Samaki had to wonder if maybe, just maybe, she could end up staying here. By the ocean, with other lions who liked the ocean, it just - it sounded too good to be true!

((Sorry about the delays, I had a few RL things to deal with, we can round this off soon!))

"Likewise," Euphrates responded as he padded easily down the beaten trail towards the coast. It didn't take long at all as Samaki had made most of the journey herself and Euphrates had settled not far from it. Then again, for those who were not immediately required for anything it was unsurprising to find them by the beach! As if to reinforce this notion, there were pockets of lions strewn about along the shoreline...families, friends, regardless of their station they were enjoying the day.

Euphrates came to a halt at this point and motioned to the ocean that lay before them. At present it was lapping gently on the shoreline and seemed to be as benevolent as always recently, but his pride always took care to ensure it was never enraged.

"Feel free, although if you have a wish to stay longer than a few weeks it would be best to let the guards know of your intentions... better yet the pride leader," he mused and shook his head before chuckling. "Fortunately they're all very well behaved and approachable, including our leader, so you won't find us to be difficult hosts," he murmured reassuringly. "However now I've said all that needs to be said I'd say you're free to wander around as you see fit - perhaps we will see each other again, yes?"

"Oh, of course," Samaki said, bouncing on her paws as she stared out at the beautiful expans of water - and around at the other lions scattered here and there. So many others who appreciated the ocean! She felt like she could stare forever, but it would be rude to ignore her helpful guide, so she flashed him a smile. "I'll be sure to seek out an authority if I plan to stay very long." Giggling softly, she padded out a few paces farther, enjoying the sensation of sand on her paws as she watched the water roll in and out and in.

"I think we will! Thank you for guiding me here, Euphrates. It was very kind of you," the pink lioness said, turning her head back to the male and flashing him a kind smile. It had been so nice of him to show her the way here, and especially so to not run her out of this territory.

Were all the lions here as nice as he was? If so, she might just never leave at all!

Fin! You can go get your cert now. ^_^

It was with a gentle nod that Euphrates turned on his heels and proceeded back the way he had come. Introductions aside, he was already beginning to miss his perch and now she had found the ocean, he saw no reason why he couldn't return! Fortunately she seemed like the gentle type and she definitely seemed to lack the sly nature of those who sought to abuse the hospitality of his kind - all in all, she seemed pleasant and he sincerely doubted anyone would have an issue with her remaining here if she chose.

"Any time, Samaki," he replied politely and with that he quickened his pace and wandered back down the beaten trail. She would be free to wander as she pleased and she was sure to meet others as equally welcoming as he...all she had to do was find her paws!
