Ohh, that's weird! Let's go poke it!
Name: John Smith, or so he says.
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Occupation: Engineer (clockwork and early steampunk)
Place of Residence: ... lolololol? He keeps a workshop in Palisade, but he likes traveling.
Appearance: Tall, slim, and foxy. He stands at 6'1'' and is pretty damn skinny. Geek physique all the way. There are probably pipe cleaners with more mass than him. His dark brown hair often looks quite messy, as though he doesn't actually 'brush' it, but rather lost a fight against his hairbrush. The war continues to this very day. He actually does try to style it occasionally, but he usually loses interest before too long.
While his eyes are a fairly typical color----just a deep brown----they are probably his best feature. 'Puppy dog eyes' definitely describes him well.
Judging by his clothes, he's wealthy. He goes for the whole waistcoat----typically brown or blue-----and frockcoat thing. Really, he'd look quite wealthy. If only he considered the idea of wearing something else while working. As it is, his clothes are typically smudged with some sort of dirt or oil. He also likes long greatcoats. You know, the ones that swish so dramatically around corners.
Personality: Ok, first imagine an endless pool of enthusiasm, like a puppy who just learned that treats exist. It doesn't really matter what the subject at hand is; John still reacts to it with an extreme amount of enthusiasm and delight. The entire world is BRILLIANT. He is an excessively loquacious man, with a tendency towards babbling when really excited (which is almost always). His own enthusiasm causes him to muddle things together accidentally: misinformation is mixed in with important bits alike, and he fully expects everyone else to be able to tell the difference.
Curiosity? Hell yes, he's curious! He's openly curious about damn near everything under the sun (and out of the sun too, actually; he'd hate to be restricted like that). You want a man who can literally be entertained by paint drying? Here's your man. He's a polymath. History has a particular fascination for him, but he's hardly going to limit himself to just the one study. Why do that when the world is so goddamn amazing?
He can be described as 'cheeky' and will happily spar wits with just about anyone who comes around. Occasionally, this leads to him accidentally hurting someone else's feelings without him even realizing it.
He's very, VERY much an extrovert; he tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. When he's angry, he's VERY angry indeed. Underneath the happy fluffiness of enthusiasm, there's a darker streak of vengeance. He generally gives people one chance----just one----to get along and when they don't, well, he takes matters into his own hands. He'll follow rules, when they don't get in his way. More than anything, he considers them to be 'helpful guidelines'
Unfortunately, this 'all-or-nothing' attitude leads to severe depressions as well. It takes a lot to get in the way of his natural buoyant delight, but when he's depressed, there's just no moving him. He'll just leak angst all over the place. Just try to step over it, and don't track it across the nice rugs, please.
Social as he is, he likes to be around other people. No. He needs to be around other people. While normal human interaction often leaves John feeling uneasy and a little broken because he can't always understand why they act the way they do, he still needs to be around others. He just does. It keeps him grounded and keeps darker things away.
History:
Presumably, he was born in Sunderland. He's got the accent anyway. Hell, 'John Smith' isn't even his real name.
The truth is, he's the son of very minor nobility who had the mistake of having a tontine and a rather unclear will. John had nothing to do with his parents' tragic accident. Having absolutely no interest in the lands, he sold them as soon as he could. Presumably, most of the money he lives off of is from investments and bank interest.
Anyway, he travels a lot.
Other stuff: Yes, I recognize the technology limits of the late 1700's. biggrin I have studied this stuff. A lot. I may or may not be a bit obsessed. I also realize that Guardians, in the waking world, cannot talk. It's just easier to describe Rani's personality in terms of LOUDNESS and things.
