I do believe that the lead game designer was one of the original creators for 40K. He even has the copyright for the looks of the Squats, while GW has the rights to the name. My shop has one of the most active Blood Bowl Leagues, and many of the players have tried Dreadball and say they may look similar, but they play very differently.
