FOR MMUR AND SHAHEEN gaia_star LOCATION: Anywhere in the Human World gaia_star STATUS EFFECT: Medea seems to be having some trouble today with her marbles - I mean gems - basically she is lacking in crystals, the base ingredients to make temporary objects of power that she uses. It is up to Shaheen and Mmur to explore deeper in the human world on an excavating trip of sorts. Medea suggests they disguise themselves as Humans using a basic Human Disguise Pendant. gaia_star BONUS CONDITION: They discover a jewelry store. Things do not go well. Human NPCS (you can rp them as you please) might start yelling at you.

The portal-lined cavern was growing more and more familiar to the Famine horseman these days. Excursions to the human world were fairly commonplace again now that many of their kind had returned, and more trips out meant a greater chance of bringing unwanted things back in. He and his fellow soldiers had their work cut out for them most days, but today he had a different mission.
Mmur fiddled with the Human Disguise Pendant he had been given this morning, reluctant to slip it on while he was still standing in the Lair. Taking on the appearance of some loose human around here would be an open invitation to the dissipation party, so instead he fiddled.
He was supposed to meet another horseman before he left—War, female—but he had never seen her face to face and really had no idea what she looked like. He assumed there would be wings, but there were so many kinds of wings! Surely she would have a pendant too, so he kept on the lookout for one of those instead, while making smalltalk with a nearby soldier. A lot of smalltalk. So much smalltalk that she threatened to dissipate him anyway, even without his human disguise. How rude.

A task for Medea and a Portal. Now why was that scenario so very familiar? The war chieftain held her pendant tight in her hand as she made her way to the cavern with all of it's many portals, her face a blank mask as she strode along, trying too hard not to focus on all of the eyes she could feel watching her, burning into her, staring at her taint, her disease, her weakness. Eventually she couldn't help herself anymore and she glanced down at her arms, readjusting the shoulder high and fingerless glove that covered her right arm completely, pulling it down slightly to hide most of her hand so that only darkened grey fingers peeked out. Her hair was tied back in one long braid, most of the grey hidden by intricate weaving, though she was very much aware that by doing so she had left her face bare, the grey that had spread across most of it more then visible. She had worn her only apparel that covered her mid drift, the red dress she had altered after prom, and boots made of soft suede leather up to her knees, their bottoms heelless. She was hiding her body, hiding what she could no longer bare to have everyone see, their silent judgment weighing her as the voices niggled at her incessantly. But if this was to be a new chance to prove herself, to show that she could perform her duty when required, that she could listen to her own voice and no others, then maybe if she could get through it things might be better. Easier said then done. When she arrived at the cavern it was to find another horseman jabbering away to a soldier and to a less then steady stream of other horsemen entering and exiting on various tasks . "Mmur?" She called out, not really sure who it was that she was looking for beyond a name and the knowledge that he was from famine. Her wings ruffled up uneasily behind her, and her golden eyes darted around the room, watching everyone, knowing that they were thinking ill things of her, that they would come to harm her if given the--- She shook her head, clearing it of the dark thoughts that were constantly trying to overtake her now. When they were through with this she decided that there were people she needed to speak with. Those that she would consider her friends.

Mmur turned from the conversation he was failing to wrap up, even after the woman's threat, smiling at whomever had said his name before he really saw her at all. When he eventually did shift his attention properly, he decided that this must be Shaheen, even if no one had possessed the courtesy to inform him that she was afflicted. A brief look of sympathy crossed his features as he moved toward her, but it was suppressed soon enough. If Medea could bring back so many of their fallen brethren from beyond death, she could surely cure this Insanity as well. And besides, he really had no place pitying one of higher rank. Mmur didn't actually know for sure if she was above him, he just had a feeling. Worker bees could usually tell who their superiors are. Or were. He was no longer certain which applied these days. The soldier inclined his head, his shoulders quick to follow. When he looked up again, his smile had returned. "Yes, I am," he replied. "You must be Shaheen." It was true he hadn't recognized her name, but deep down he still thought he might have remembered her once she arrived. Nothing about her was familiar, however, so he went with a generic friendly greeting. "It is a pleasure to meet you." Mmur remained awkwardly silent for a moment as he pressed his lips together and bobbed up and down on his toes once or twice, only equalling her height at the peak of each bounce. "We should go, probably? I haven't ever thought much about humans and gems," he said, his fidgeting temporarily stilled. "I suppose they must have jewelcrafters to talk to if Medea gave us these." He held up his pendant, then extended that hand toward the nearest portal. "After you."

There was one that responded to the name she had called out, the one that had been chatting rather a lot to the soldier manning the portals. She inclined her head to him in return, the look she returned to him carefully blank so as to not give away her thoughts, or how very badly she wanted to step back away from him when he approached, something inside of her telling her that she should not trust him, that he might be lying about who he was, that things were not always what they seemed. "You as well." Her voice came out much louder then she intended, and she closed her eyes for a moment, willing herself to calm down, to just ignore the voices and the foreign feelings and get through this one little thing. The war chieftain just shrugged, eyes moving off of Mmur and towards the portal . "Yes, I suppose we should." She murmured, then turned on her heel towards it while still listening to anything else he had to say. "Yes, I believe I have seen shops before. Trinkets and gems were on display beneath glass boxes. I have never really seen the merit in such things, but we shall have to do as Medea wills, yes?" Even if it meant losing herself to the insanity yet more? There was a chance that this was another test, another task set to weigh what she had learned from the last time. At the edge of the portal she stopped, gazing at it with golden eyes, shifting on her feet, her wings twitching behind her and ruffling slightly to show her sudden unease. But he was bidding her to enter, and she simply nodded, steeling herself before plunging through with her pendant still held tightly in hand. On the other side she appeared in what seemed to be some sort of dark and dank alleyway. A light rain fell from above, more of a mist then anything. At the end of the narrow space between buildings she could see light, though it was dimmed by grey clouds. Humans wandered by the entrance, many dressed for the weather and holding umbrella's in hand, or with rain jackets and hoods pulled up over their heads. She really had no idea where in the world they were, though the ground beneath her appeared to be of cobble stone. Through the gap at the entrance and across the street in a small concrete and cobbled area she could just make out what appeared to be a large clock. With a shiver from the cold rain she turned and waited for Mmur to emerge, not wanting to slip on her own pendant until he arrived so that he would not mistake her for a human right from the start.
