Tess couldn't believe it. She just couldn't believe her luck! But it was true! And it was happening! And it was why she was at Boos and Nonos instead of on a movie date with her boilfriend. And it was also why she had a cap on her head, the bill pulled down to hide most of her face, and was dressed as inconspicuously as she could manage. Tucked inside one of the inner pockets of her dark coat was a very dog-eared copy of a certain novel that she had to hide every single time anyone came over. Considering her room had a fairly large and fairly extensive collection of trashy romance novels that she dedicated an entire bookcase to, that was saying something. Oh the curse of vampires supposedly having refined taste.

Nonchalantly she strode into the store, and spotted an empty table in between a life-sized standee of a female vampire decked in pinstripes and a life-sized standee of a male reaper in leather holding a riding crop. Tess bit her lip in excitement and barely managed to suppress a giddy squeal. Crimson eyes darted around and saw no familiar faces. Things were looking good for the ghoul!

Anna had a book under her hat.

Normally, this would not be the case, but this was a special circumstance. Very special. The author... the author was going to be here! And signing!! And oh Jack she was going to faint... Quietly, the ghoul sidled into a corner and pulled the book out of her hat. Precious, much-read book. All her dreams of romance were captured between those now-battered covers. Oh, it was so wonderful...

But she couldn't get caught. Oh no. Otherwise her reputation would be ruined! Not that she had much of a reputation to ruin, which was why it was so important to keep what little she had absolutely squeaky-clean. Thankfully, there wasn't really anyone aro-

No.

The first thing Anna saw was the skull pin, an exact match to the one nestled into the bow of her hat. Only after her horrified eyes registered that sight did she take in the person the pin was attached to. Not someone she knew, but... but! An Amityville student! She could be recognized!

Furtively, Anna crept behind a bookshelf and snuck her way closer to the ghoul. She had to... she had to somehow... save herself... but leaving with her beloved book unsigned simply wasn't an option! Clearly, the answer was to wait it out. Yep. Anna shoved her book under her hat again and nonchalantly picked up a magazine. Yes. She would cooly and calmly read through... uh, what was this, anyway? Better Haunts and Graveyards?

Tess reached into her pocket, retrieving her skellular phone to check the time. The signing wouldn't be for at least another hour, maybe longer if the author turned out to be some sorta horrible screama-donna but even then, the undead ghoul was going to stick out. In the meantime, she had better find something to keep her occupied.

Half-tempted to find a quiet, secluded, preferably hidden corner to read the book in, the dark-haired vampire began to glance around. At first, she ignored the ghoul in the hat standing close by, crimson eyes barely registering the title of the magazine held. But the idea of using one of the large, glossy magazines as some sort of cover occurred to her and she went over to take one as well.

"Excuse me," she smiled, tiptoeing for one of the fashion oriented magazines. When her arm reached on over the other ghoul's large hat, Tess saw the head wear was adorned with a skull pin. One that looked very much like the one on her choker.

She froze, No Jacking way... No, Mother-Jacking way!!! "N-nice accessory you have there," she nervously smiled, eyes still trained on the skull pin.

"Nice... what? My hat?" Anna stammered, not really sure what the ghoul was on about. "Um, thank you. You have... a nice... hair. Um. I mean your hair is nice. Yes. That is what I mean." She folded the magazine into a tube and worried at it.

Smooth.

Tess blinked at the other ghoul, hmm, not exactly what she'd intended the reaction to be but she will make do. The undead gave her long black hair a pat, "Oh, thank you as well, what I really meant was that little pin you have on your hat. Interesting choice in accessorizing," she clarified, smiling as sweetly as she could.

"Uhhhh..." Anna gave her a confused look that turned into skepticism. "It's just my Amityville skull pin. You've, uh, got one too."

The are you stupid was... implied.

Tess' eyes flashed briefly, but the smile remained on her lips though her response came as an amused coo, "Yes, this particular one is just the kind you get from Amityville." Idly, she fingered the pin on her choker, then cut her gaze to the top row of the magazines, "But I have different skull-inspired accessories too. Some from Swarovsrcee and even the exclusive Scartier spring line." She hummed to herself in thought, seemingly trying to choose a title to read.

Well, that confirmed this was a fellow student, which meant Tess could not afford to let this ghoul know her real purpose of being here. Jack damn it, how was she going to get her book autographed now?! Random strangers seeing her in line would be fine but she didn't want anyone she might run into again to know.

This ghoul was not making any sense at all. How was wearing her skull pin, when she was a student an interesting choice? Ugh! And she was coming between Anna and her book signing, too. "Maybe you should put yours on a hat too," she said, trying to not let her irritation show. "Then you could be, um. Stylish. Like me. My hat is super stylish."

At the suggestion of wearing a hat and the declaration of the hat being super stylish, Maritess let out a snort and a laugh, "Oh is that what you think? Adorable," the third year smirked, stretching up even more but failing to quite reach the magazine. "I only wear my Amityville skull pin if I have to. And I'd rather not wear anything as over-sized as your hat, it draws far too much attention."

Large, bat-like wings suddenly sprouted from Tess' back as she severed from her lower half, enabling her to reach the magazine. She didn't really think twice about whether either of her wings would end up striking anyone close by. Legs sure as hell didn't see any problem with that.

Anna didn't quite get smacked by an emerging wing, though it was a near thing - her eyes narrowed sharply at the ghoul. "It wouldn't look good on you anyway," she said, trying to decide if the ghoul was aiming for a squabble or not. The fact that she'd just left her legs behind...

... eh. It was Halloween, after all.
