Dana relished most moments to be free. Recess was not one of them. It wasn't really freedom when you were fenced in a pen and you weren't allowed to bring any of your cool toys to utilize the time with. While most kids in Knightside took to the playground, Dana was sitting cross legged in the grass, looking at her phone with bored eyes.

Nothing was really popping up on social feeds. Probably because she was thirteen and everyone else in her age group was in school like she was.

But there was nothing to do but stare and hope something would happen. Someone she knew would come up with a game and include her or some fight would break out, anything to break the tedium of a normal school day.

Because her mandatory thirty minutes in the child pen wasn't very fun today.

Ainsley didn't really have a social cliche that she fell into, and although she was friendly with Peter, Ridley and Istas she hadn't been nearly as close to them as she had been with Sam. She really missed Sam but there was nothing she could do to change the current situation. She hoped things would change and she'd have her friend back but right now she simply wandered the school ground with a book in her hand.

She hadn't gotten too into her book before she caught sight of the thirteen year old nearby. She looked lonely, all by herself, or at least that's how Ainsley interpreted it. There weren't any other children near her, or even Ainsley for that matter. Most of them seemed content on running around to try and keep warm in the winter. Gloved hands closing the book carefully on a bookmark, Ainsley shuffled over to the girl with the short purple hair.

"Salutations," she whispered with a sweet smile. "My name is Ainsley, what's yours?"

Dana was usually part of a clique, but never the same one. And sometimes she was between them, and didn't know where she fit in. Like today. So she was surprised when a strawberry blonde girl approached her and she jumped a little, pulled out of the phone screen she was staring at.

"Oh, uh," She was blank at first, and then she lifted an eyebrow with a smile. "Salutations? Who talks like that?"

Something that probably wasn't expected to be followed up with, "That's great! I mean, it's like you're right out of a book or something!" Which she found more exciting than she probably should've and she had to restrain herself from saying 'talk more things!' because that was an awkward way to make new friends.

"Oh, I'm Dana," She announced, standing up and brushing off her skirt. "I'm in 8th grade."

Ainsley wouldn't deny that she spoke a little more differently than those around her but she never thought it would be a bad thing. She didn't like to jump to conclusions, trying to think the best of situations but her heart did tug against her. Hearts and minds seemed to fickle in the end, but thankfully a smile remained on her face as Dana continued to make Ainsley's hope a reality.

Despite any tinges of worry, it had been deemed a good thing all along! Who would be surprised though? Definitely not Ainsley! Who wouldn't want to be right out of a book? They were, after all, one of Ainsley's favourite pastimes.

"Oh, how marvelous," she said with a smile. "I think it would be utterly divine to find myself inside a book."

A pause, long enough for Ainsley to give a small curtsey.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Dana. I, myself, am currently in the sixth grade." Grade different? Absolutely irrelevant!

"I don't read that much," Dana admitted with a handwave. "I like movies. And plays, though," Plays obviously didn't count as reading because they weren't books, was the only logic available in this little head, "I make a lot of movies but my dad won't let me post them online or anything," She said with an 'ugh' noise punctuating the whole thing.

"It's okay," She said at the bit about being in sixth grade like it was something she was willing to overlook. "Anyway recess is boring. I wish we were allowed to leave," She complained, a wistful glance spared to the chain link fence and the mysterious beyond behind it. Dana wanted to climb over it with all of her being but was prevented by the magical barrier of rules.

Normally rules weren't high on Dana's list of things to watch out about, but doing something that would probably cause an amber alert was over a line. Like there was a code about making your dad think you've been kidnapped or killed or something. Ditching school was a shenanigan she wasn't quite ready for yet.

The word play was a small trigger for Ainsley because it had been something she'd done and enjoyed, along with having a decent amount of expose to it from home with her sister. Blue eyes lit up and small hands covered over her chest as her head leaned in with a composed sort of excitement she deemed acceptable for a lady.

"Oh, I just adore the theatre! Last year my elder sister and I took part King Arthur. What about yourself?"

Ainsley didn't mind being stuck in the school yard but she did prefer to be inside during the winter. It was simply too cold stand around for fifteen to thirty minutes in slush, snow and cold. It was almost too uncomfortable to find a nice place to read a book, and playing any sort of quiet game was simply out of the question. If she was more athletic she might have enjoyed playing with the seasonal condition but she wasn't and she did enough running around as Sailor Chibi Hypnos.

"I would be content with going inside. The weather is awfully dreary."

"Oh I dunno, I read plays," Dana said. "Plays and scripts and scene settings but uh... I've never acted in one." She was probably more suited for lighting or set building anyway.

"My dad would be too busy to drive me to practice or come to it anyway," She added with a slumped shrug of her shoulders. "It's cool your sister does stuff with you, though. My sister's lame."

"I guess. I dunno, winter kind of sucks. Can't play tag, burns too much with the cold," She huffed. "I miss winter vacation already."

Ainsley simply nodded her head as if this was the most interesting thing ever, and she meant it. The topic about her sister caused her to stop moving her head like a bobble head, her eyes looking up as she recalled the memory in her head. To those that understood, it was an easy tell that she was thinking about something. She was glad that it counted was doing something with her sister because it was one of the only things her sister ever did with her... and it wasn't really with her.

"Yeah," she decided, her thoughts lingering while her feet shuffled around on the ground. "You shouldn't say such things about your sister... s-she's your sister!"

"Uggggh," Dana threw her head back with an overly dramatic groan. "But she is!" She exclaimed, arms thrown up in the air and then lowered for frustrated clutching gestures. "She's so lame oh my god she won't even eat meat! And she never dresses cool and she's always doing homework, never anything fun and if I complain she gets on me about my homework and blah blah school, blah blah Dana your skirt's too sort, blah Dana don't post that on the internet. I swear," She folded her arms and frowned. "She thinks she's mom."

An then a long pause.

"Don't you fight with your sister sometimes?"
PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2013 3:11 pm

Ainsley listened rather carefully, making a variety of faces as Dana went from one topic to the other.

"She loves you," Ainsley said with a soft smile on her face, her hands pressing against the book in her arms to her chest. Ainsley didn't know how her sister felt about her. She always assumed she loved her because she kept allowing her to life with her but she had no real proof to show for it. She assumed she loved her the way she assumed her mother and father loved her (and they cared very minimally as their responsibility to their own images were concerned).

"We do not fight," she said with affirmation. "I would not want to upset her. She's so generous already, allowing me to live with her."

"I--... wait, why do you live with your sister?" Dana asked, incredulously, and then for the briefest moment debated asking her where her parents were.

That quickly got the kibosh when she managed to stop for a moment and realize how annoying it was when people asked where her mom was. People's parents and their whereabouts were their own business. "Er... Nevermind."

And thank god the recess bell rang. And Dana shot off like a bullet, waving behind her and shouting, "It was nice meeting you Ainsl--"

Apparently one should always look ahead while running or they run and trip into the sandbox face first. Unfazed, Dana popped up and sputtered and continued her dash to class, this time making careful note not to run into the door.

Ainsley's face made an obvious expression of saddness when her thoughts automatically began recalling where her parents were. She knew her father was probably still in New York as a businessman but her mother traveled the globe constantly so it was hard to determine her exact location. She may not have been positive where they were, but she knew where they were: home with her.

Luckily, Dana quickly took her question back, and before she could even attempt to say anything the bell rang and Dana began to flee. Of course, she didn't do a very good job of it. Ainsley reached out to warn her about the sandbox but it was too late.

"A-are you okay?" She murmured, but Dana was already gone.

She sighed.

"It was a pleasure meeting you," she said, gathering herself and then heading through the appropriate door. They were in different sections so her door was on the other side. She wondered if she's see her again but she decided not to linger on the thought too much because frankly if they went to the same school then it was very likely they would see each other again very soon.
