Theluji was in one of his odd moods again today. The type of mood where he was slightly grumpy, yet so laid back and not really caring for much or feeling bothered by too much in life. He had been making some decent progress with practicing his social skills, but wasn't in one of his moods where he cared to possibly seek out more practice with the random passing rouge. He knew he just might inevitably need to find some more subjects to practice speaking with, but there was no way he was going to actively seek anyone else out on this day; he was much too focused on relaxing among the shadows of the rather thin tree that sprouted out of the earth behind him, trying to beat the mid-afternoon's heat. There was undoubtedly much more that he needed to learn about feline socialization, especially lion socialization, but right now he just felt like he couldn't be bothered to learn about it. After all this time, it was just something he had to be in the mood for.

So, for now, all he did was pant some of the heat out from his large body, relax in the shade, and watch the savannah in front of him as life simply passed him by, in general.

Oh the pressure this brown lioness was under, her red eyes darted back and forth restlessly. Pace may have been an adult but she was still forced to live under her father's rule; such was the life as the daughter of the Pirate King. Although the great ruler had much offspring to divide his attention on, they were all expected to maintain a certain standard of living in a sense and follow the unwritten rules. One of these rules she was violating on a regular basis, and the older pride members were beginning to get suspicious. Which was why she was out in the rouge lands now.

Pace had been carrying around this bag full of fermented fruits for the past week now. The corsair at the pub had given her fruit enough at different stages to last her two weeks in timid weather, after that the corsair demanded she come home at once. But the sun beating down on the black bag had sped up the process, now forcing her to finally make a move. She had ran across several males that would suit her needs, but none good enough. If she was going to be forced into having cubs, they would be good looking cubs.

Right now the move needed to be finding some shade, she determined as the smell of the fruit came to her nostrils again. In the distance a piece she spotted some shade and headed for it. There seemed to be some sort of white spot under the trees however, as she got closer she realized it was a rather attractive lion. But is he friendly? Her pace slowed down as she got closer still.

It was not that he was tired, but he was beginning to feel his eyelids flutter from the heat of the afternoon. Sure, the sun was very slowly beginning its decent, but the stillness of the air only brought the humidity up as well and he could almost feel as the heat molecules tried to bury themselves into the fibers of his fur and the pores of his skin. Wasn't his fur hot enough? Granted, it was white so it helped to fend off the sun's rays, but with his large male body heat still found a way to keep itself stored within him. And as he had previously expressed to himself in his mind, while he did have some verbal grumpiness to him, he simply didn't have much fight in him at the moment physically for the most part [unless he had decided to find it stored within him for one reason or another] so with the heat only harassing him further, he found his forelegs lazily finding themselves folding beneath him as he laid himself down comfortably yet without exposing his stomach.

But as he was blinking the laziness from his eyes, a dark object caught his attention from the corner of his sight that he hadn't noticed until now. It was close enough for him to tell that it had the body of a lioness, but it had something that he had never seen before; some sort of object that was hanging from its body. What on earth was that?! And of course, this female was heading right for him. Being that she was alone and he could not yet smell the scents on her coat, he assumed she was merely another rouge; and in this heat, he was not one to turn another creature away from the comfort of the shade unless they outright threatened him in one way or another. But did this really have to happen right now? This timing? Really? If the lioness tried to strike up a conversation, he would surely fall flat or seem much more aggressive than he intended to in his words, perhaps, and if he wanted proper practice that surely wouldn't work. But for now, he merely looked over at her before looking back away, not inviting her over yet not making any verbal or physical signs that she was not welcome. Besides, it was most likely that she was merely looking for a place to rest out of the sun's heat, and not looking for someone to talk to. That just wouldn't be it.

Many times Pace had been tempted to just whip out the fermenting fruit in her pouch and drink her herself and she had resisted, but a pirate could only hold out for so long especially in these circumstances. If she had to actually woo this cub donor, she would have drank the fruit long ago. The awkwardness to her was actually palpable as she returned the silence until she was under the tree, on her rump. Come on Arrows, get it over with.

"My my.. Sure is hot out here." Instead of her normal nearly baritone, scratchy voice, Pace spoke as softly as she could manage without sounding insincere, like talking to a cub. While the male wasn't looking, she flashed a look of self disgust and shock. Ew, what? Now closer to him, her red eyes sized up and checked out the male. There weren't any scars to show this male was a fighter of many sorts, no scent of another female (or male for that matter) so he wasn't attached to any others, and most importantly very handsome markings. It was more like Pace was looking at a beautiful painting than a potential mate, more calculations and less lust.

Oh my...how was he supposed to make conversation when he wasn't prepared for it? Yet perhaps this was a good way to learn, when he just had to try and socialize on the spot. That's what some felines had to do, anyway. His claws briefly unsheathed and dug into the grass in both frustration and anxiety, but not so much as a fear anxiety but one of stress. And being the fact that it was a rather pretty lioness, well, from the quick glance that he had taken, it had only made him a little more nervous, especially at this stage of his life with how his body had begun to truly peak into adulthood. Not that he was controlled by his hormones and his biological purpose at this stage of life, but even though it was not something he was neither thinking of nor looking for, it still influenced his anxiety and stress, being that he was still in the presence of a single adult female.

"Yes. It is," he said rather gruffly, his words being forced out. Oh, he nearly forgot! He turned his head to shift his orange eyes upon his new company, remembering that eye contact was both very "polite" in socializing as well as to keep him knowledgeable about the body language and movements of the other creatures he was sharing his space with. "It's the sun. At this time of the day, at least," he said rather blandly, knowing that he probably sounded rather dim for a moment.

He stared at her for a few silent moments, flexing his nostrils a little bit in order to take in as much as her strange scent as he could. It was very odd; he could scent the lands, some familiar some not, as well as a watery scent, many different males and females from all over her coat. And not to mention the object that was being hung from her back had its own little smell to it, as well as a fruity scent with a hint of something he had never ever caught scent of before. His eyes narrowed slightly at her, feeling his energy returning to him as his survival and cautious instincts began to swiftly return back to him. He eyeballed her smoothly, taking in her actually quite lovely complexion and fur colors before his eyes rested on the object that hung from her body.

The white lion didn't seem to be particularly intelligent or outgoing, a godsend for Pace. In fact he seemed to be a little primal, another gift. As his eyes infiltrated her body with his orange eyes, her insides twisted and her pelt set on fire but she just shifted her body weight, showing her muscles and curvature of her body and smiled coyly as she pretended not to notice. If this creature tried taking advantage of her before she could get her chance to ready herself properly, she would be ready to fend him off tooth and nail. It wouldn't be a new task, she was one of the few females given permission to 'pirate', she could do anything.

"I'm Nola'yani." Using a fake name in the rogue lands was also not new to Arrows and it came as naturally as her giving her birth or given name. If he knew her true name, he may be able to track her back to her pride and that was her worst nightmare. The fruit she had brought was the strongest grade of fermentation the bar keeper had available, meant for snuffing the flame of a broken heart or erasing the memory of the lover all together if done right.

An avid planner Pace may be, but talented with her words and social interaction she was not. She saw the male's eyes fall towards her pouch, but she waited for his name to open that can of worms.

Although the lioness didn't seem to particularly care that he observed her physical attributes, there was an odd glitter in her eyes; was that of suspicion? He knew that they way he spoke most likely made him sound rather unintelligent and whatnot, especially to a stranger, but maybe that was to his advantage? To underestimate another creature was the biggest form of weakness any enemy or opposition, or even stranger, could wield. Perhaps his lack of social skills would be to an advantage with this stranger, especially one whose origins and odd apparel would seem much more suspicious than he could.

"Nola'yani," he repeated formally, gazing into her red eyes. He didn't even suspect that the name could be false, for he neither cared nor would ever see her again in the future, he assumed. "I am called Theluji."

Now all he needed to do was wait for her next question or response, so maybe he could try and practice socializing even more. He would have normally asked about the odd item she carried with her, but he could not quite tell what kind of a personality this lioness had, and wished to avoid any kind of drama that he could.

There would be no one to chastise her of this interaction, so now was the time for her to fake some razzle dazzle. Pace needed to mirror the same cute, alluring behavior that compelled her to the same gender in order to make things go more smoothly. But not over sell to make the lion fall inlove with her, that would be the last thing she needed. A love sick rogue sniffing after her.

"Teehee. Theluji." Pace drew up a giggle, shootmenow.

"I'm a rogue on a mission, and I need help." Now locking his orange eyes she pursed her lips into a pout, giving the most cub like expression she could conjure.

"I must prove my sal- myself." Almost a pirate slip up! But Pace recovered quickly. "Against out drinking a male lion. I have alllll of these beautiful, juicy fruits and no one to share something as simple drinking with. Really.. You'd think I had the plague. Am I really that ugly?" Classic lack of confidence.

With another pout, Pace tried to draw some sympathy from the male, ears back and head tilted down in mock-shame. It was bait, would he take it?

The lioness suddenly seemed to loosen up and relax, something he didn't quite expect yet welcomed at the same time. He would rather have a relaxed, happy companion rather than a grouchy, pushy one any time of the day, especially if it was being forced upon him like it was at this very moment. But when she actually giggled, and at his name, he nearly gave her an unamused frown and changed his gaze upon her slightly. Was there something wrong with his name? Something that sounded "silly" about it? He rather liked his name, and he really couldn't much stand felines that were too bubbly, air-headed, or plain silly and whatnot like she had just desplayed. But he wasn't about to chase her off for acting positive and nice and such, so for now he merely gazed down at her and flicked his tail a few times back and forth.

"Yes..." he said at a monotone level. "That is my name."

He listened to her further, pulling his ears back at her seemingly overbearing [only to him and what he was used to, at least] friendliness and her odd phrases. "Out drinking"? "Fruits"? What on earth were those things? Granted, he had heard of fruits once before, but he had never encountered such an item or object before.

"You are not ugly, miss Nola'yani. Maybe I am, but you look better than most lionesses I have seen out here." Would that be appropriate to say? It was true, he had always found himself to be ugly [who could find such a plain looking, pure white lion to be alluring?], but it didn't quite effect him at all, nor was he sure that was a right thing or comparison to use with such a lioness and the lines she used with him.

He tilted his head at her, confused with the facial expressions that she had made. Even among the Dawnwalkers way back when, he had never seen any form such poses or act this certain way; maybe a couple of cubs once, but perhaps this only occurred when a lioness or female was in heat? She really didn't quite smell like it or anything at all, and even so he couldn't see himself consciously even using such a situation with an odd, random stranger.

"What is this 'out drinking' that you spoke of?" he asked her in his usual deep voice, genuinely curious and confused about it. There was no way he was about to humor this lioness without even understanding whatever it was she was speaking about. "And what is "fruits"? Is it that object you hang from your back?" He nodded his nose at the weird thing, pointing at it softly with one of his forepaws.

Arrows eye twitched a split second before she grabbed control of it and forced it into stillness. The sweet and innocent routine obviously wasn't getting her anywhere and she was so outside of her comfort zone that she was actually thankful she was tanking. But if she went home with no cubs, she might actually have to get a male companion to show off in the pride, and that would be not humiliation one time, but every time many times. Forget that!

"This is a pouch. Inside is a game. You like games?" Her words were slower and her voice was no longer masked in fake girly-ness. Pace placed the bag on the ground from her shoulder and lifted the side with her nail. Then she reached that same long nail into the bag and pulled it back out with a juicy fermented mango on the end of it.

"We eat all of the contents of the pouch, the one that wins is the one that ate the most. It's a tradition. Got it?" Just eat the damn fruit. She wanted to yell at him, but he would certainly run off. Instead she offered a pleasant smile.

"A game?" he asked her genuinely, tilting his head slightly as he kept his eyes trained on both her 'pouch' and her face. While rouge lions didn't quite mention games too often, the Dawnwalker pride did have many of them that enjoyed playing and making up games to help pass time within the territory when there was not enough to really do when all the tasks were being handled. And although it wasn't too fresh, this lioness did smell of many other lions and felines somewhere deep within her own scent that radiated from her skin. So, maybe it wouldn't be so bad for him to try and play this game of hers after all. If it had to do with the drinking and eating of fruits, it couldn't possibly be too risky or dangerous now, could it?

"A tradition?" he said somewhat slowly, raking away at his mind to try and seek out any knowledge he had on this. And now that he looked at it, he had seen such a fruit a few times while staying among the Dawnwalkers; it was a delicacy that was to be enjoyed as a treat and they used to have eating traditions with them at the pride.

"Okay. I'll do it," he finally answered. The games and feasts with the fruit at the pride were on restrictions, so he was unable to participate. Maybe now he could finally learn something else that was very important about lion interactions and traditions. Very slowly, he stood himself up so he could take a few steps closer to the brown lioness and sit himself closer to her so that he could have easier access to her "pouch" and the fruit that she had in it. However, his muscles remained a little tense and his eyes focused on her body as he tried to stay alert.
