FOR LANCE and RYAN gaia_star LOCATION: Caelius's Office gaia_star STATUS EFFECT: Ryan's not too happy over the entire Caelius thing (even if he can't place a finger on it) and decides to do a confrontation - until he realizes that for some reason Caelius's office is vacant! EXCELLENT! Revenge will be his! It is up to him how exactly he wants to extract his revenge by whatever form of trashing up the office or sifting through files - - Until that is of course, Lances notices Ryan. Whether or not Lance helps is up to him. gaia_star BONUS CONDITION: Circe is watching them the entire time. She's just a paperweight of a floating eyeball just watching and judging them. She stares at them whenever they move around. (Feel free to gm/vandalize her as you please)

Ryan was indeed still angry over the whole Caelius incident. Why wouldn't he be? He took Locke, broke his arm, and then cast him out and left both him and Kat for dead. What was worse, now he found out that he had attached some bracelets to the friends of the other hunters involved. Dangerous ones. Well he wanted answers.
Though... that meant confronting the death lead himself.
For a while, Ryan hesitated in front of the door, pacing back and forth and going over what it was he wanted to say in his head. Not to mention, running the different scenarios of what might happen when he did.
Would Caelius kill him? Or would he--
What did it matter? He likely was as good as dead anyways and his existence on the island wouldn't be ignored forever. He might as well get some answers now, while he could.
Now that his mind was made up, Ryan took in a breath and opened the door, slowly. Only to to let it out again in both disappointment and relief.
Caelius wasn't there. Great. Now what?
Wait no. This might work to his advantage. Now that he was here and Caelius wasn't, perhaps he could find the answers himself. Maybe even the key to getting those bracelets off of the others without causing them to activate. Yes, he was starting to like this plan. It was certainly a lot better than asking the death lead directly. Only, there was only one problem. Even though Caelius was out, someone else was still here. A certain little winged eyeball who seemed to be watching his every move as he crept into the office. Circe.
...Awkward.
"Er hi..." He gave the de-summoned weapon a weak smile, while mentally pleading for her to stop staring him like that. Though it only lasted until he reached the desk and distracted himself with snooping through the files. A lot of files.

There was one fundamental, simple thing that Ryan completely forgot to do: close the door. The sheer fact alone that the door to the Death Lead's door was wide open was enough to send experienced hunters scurrying, quickly finding other things to do that were as far away from Caelius' office as possible. Not all hunters were lucky, however.
Lance eyed the open door as he cautiously wheeled towards it, tucking the files he had recovered earlier protectively against him. He decided to play it cool. Caelius was bound to ignore him, right? Lance did his best to avoid the division leaders when possible, as they had nothing to offer him. After all, he had Aria and her connections to utilize.
The Mist assistant took a deep breath and held it as he did his best to wheel past the opened door, sneaking a glance beneath half-lidded eyes. He passed the door without incident. Lance released the breath he was holding as he stopped, processing what he saw in the glance. He leaned back, popping a wheelie as he slowly rolled back to take an unashamed long look at the room.
Ryan was watched for a moment before Lance gave a low whistle. "Damn. Doin' that takes a lot of balls. Or blackmail," he commented unhelpfully.

Ryan was sifting through the sixth, terrible trainee report when Lance's whistle caught him off guard and caused him to jump about five feet off the ground.
He hadn't even noticed he was there!
"Err, uhh..." How to explain himself? From what he could tell this guy was at least a full hunter and yet, he got the feeling he was someone who held a little more power than just a regular hunter. Didn't matter either way, he had been caught red handed, snooping through a division lead's desk. "Not black mail..." He admitted lamely. More like a combination of revenge and the desire to help the others.

The handy thing about wheelchairs was that they came with convenient arm rests. Lance propped his shoulder on one, resting his chin in his hands. A grin similar to the grin a cat wore after eating the canary was spread across his lips. "No blackmail? Really? You are so boned. That is," he began, "If Caelius catches you. You got a backup plan? Or was your deathwish it?"

If Lance was the cat, Ryan was feeling very much like the canary. He wasn't sure he liked the way he was grinning at him. It made him feel more great deal more nervous than he already was. Which was saying something.
"If?" He repeated, having already backed away from the desk a step. Or two. He didn't have a plan. It was really a spur of the moment thing. He didn't even come here with the idea of snooping through Caelius' office. It just sort of... ended up that way. "I didn't plan on coming here with the intentions of getting myself killed, if that's what you're saying. I was just, umm, looking for something."
Yeah, because that totally made it better and excused his actions.

"Well, you know how a**l he gets," Lance said conversationally (he really didn't). "And how everything must fit and fall into place, y'know? I bet you didn't even memorize where everything was before you messed with it." Lance wouldn't have either. Then again, everything he knew about breaking and entering was all theory. It wasn't as if he could exactly practice what he preached.
Lance glanced at the desk and froze as the blue unblinking eye on Circe focused on him. s**t! That weapon always creeped Lance out. What sort of totem flew or stared or did anything like that?! It unnerved him. He debated covering her with some of the papers on Caelius' desk, or to pick her up and chuck her out the window.
He could easily back out. Lance considered his options carefully, glancing down the hallway before slowly wheeling in and closing the door behind him. "Rule one, don't raise suspicion. Rule two? This had better be worth it." The assistant did his best to ignore Circe as he scoured the desk with his eyes, searching.

Crap! He didn't think of that. Not did he have to answer that. From the expression on his face and the quick glance to the desk, Lance would have gotten the answer he needed. But really. He should have known Caelius would be the OCD type and no, he definitely didn't keep track of how everything was organized. Worse, it might all be for nothing because the files might not even be here.
s**t.
He hadn't even noticed Lance's hesitation, or his discomfort around Circe. His mind was currently going around in circles of what to do and how to fix it so that Caelius would never find out. Though when the door suddenly closed, he snapped out and blinked in surprise.
"Yeah... I probably should have shut the door." Clearly sneaking around wasn't his forte. "Well, I think it is... but." It might not be for this hunter. He may not even know the others or care about helping them out. But given that he had stuck around to help, when he could have just as easily wheeled back out of here, Ryan was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"Do you see anything about bracelets?"

Lance did his best to Pretend Circe Didn't Exist. It didn't help that he felt a cold chill as she glared at him, or that his arms were now covered in goosebumps.
He didn't touch anything as he scanned the documents, searching for something on his own. "Hm? Bracelets? Why?" Lance furrowed his brow as he looked at the trainee. "Higher ups tend to keep their keys on'em."
"Besides," he continued, eying the drawers. "I'm half-tempted to rig something here and see how long it takes Caelius to spring it."

Ryan wilted a little. He knew it was slim, but he had been hoping to find at least a small clue about getting them off. The idea that they all had something attached to their arms that could get them killed made him uneasy. Especially when it was for protecting another hunter. A corrupted hunter, infected with insanity maybe, but still a hunter. "'Cause some others got a little present from Caelius, deadly ones, and I want to get them off. Y'know, on the off chance his highness is ever in a killing mood."
It didn't matter now though. If Caelius kept the more important things under lock and key, then there was no way he was going to find or access it for that matter.
"Rig?" That caught his attention. "As in--" Was he talking about a prank, or an actual explosion. Either way, Ryan was interested to hear more.

"And that is why I stay away from death," Lance replied absently as he scoured the top of the desk a second time, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he was right in the heart of death's territory right now.
The man smirked as Ryan asked his question. "And by rig I mean... Gotcha!" Lance snatched an empty cup off of the top of Caelius' desk and quickly slammed it down on top of Circe. He grabbed the dangling sleeve of his coat from off of his lap and used it to pull open desk drawers and look inside. "So you want to get a key and unlock the braclets?" Lance asked as he searched, "You so sure about that? I dunno about you, but I wouldn't want to be around when Caelius realizes someone with a bracelet like that doesn't have it on anymore."

A wise choice. Given all that had happened. Something Ryan should really consider doing himself instead of doing well... this.
He continued to watch as Lance slammed the cup over Circe, trapping her beneath. "Yeah but..." He started to talk, while Lance busied himself with the desk drawers, but stopped himself. It was true what Lance was saying. For all he knew he could just be making matters worse. Not better. Was it right to do that? And yet, the idea of just ignoring the fact that those devices were on their wrists and doing nothing about it didn't sit well with Ryan either. "Do you think we should just leave them as they aren then?"
While Lance continued to occupy himself with drawers, Ryan returned to the files. Though every once in a while, his gaze would shift to the cup which had trapped Circe. Which was now rattling about as the winged totem moved underneath. Curious, he moved a little closer.

The cup was very silent and had stopped rattling. Maybe Lance had suffocated her. Maybe she needed air holes.
