The waves rolled gently back and forth, washing up against the shore and lapping gently against the broad chest of a chocolate brown lion. Dhoru relished the cool of the water as it washed over his back and shoulders, eyes closed with his face turned toward the fading warmth of the sun. Wait - fading?

Dhoru's eyes flew open and, for the first time, he noticed that the sun was setting. With a sigh, he turned and headed toward the shore; it would be a good idea to get out of the water while the sun was still warm enough to dry him off. Wading out of the shallows onto the sand, he shook himself vigorously before clambering onto a rock to lay down in the sunshine.

Suddenly, he swiveled his ears backwards and focused his attention on the sound of pawsteps approaching from the direction of the main camp. Drawing in air, he caught a familiar scent - definitely one of his pride, but one he couldn't put a name to. Slowly and calmly, he swung his head around to face the newcomer - a mainly dark-pelted lioness with bright orange and faded beige accents. He recognized her as another thief, but had never actually met her, and so he awaited patiently as she came closer.

Rani wasn't too sure about the new management of the pride, she was a traditionalist herself and preferred the old rulers. But even they had showed her the back side of the paw by moving on with the cub heist she had trained for while she was pregnant. Now that her cubs were fully grown, they rarely needed her assistance or guidance and with no lifemate it left the mother empty and lonely. A depression had followed, but it ended Swiftly when her daughter helped her combine her passions of helping other lions to become better, physical training and her ranking.

The result was her purpose for being on the beach in the first place. Rani'Kob was on a mission and walked with determination as opposed to her usual nearly silent glide across the surface. Up until the God of Peace came to the Kizi lands, the black pelted lioness had spent her life as a wall flower and instead of having friends of her own, observed and memorized her pridemates. It wasn't a matter of observing rituals or a lack of social graces, just her shyness and desire for attachment at a young age. It came in handy when she was looking for a specific quality in lions now that she was more bold, free from her malicious muse.

The thief she had zeroed in on now was one she had seen in passing several times, but hadn't had any reason to catch him in conversation. This male was the previous Queen's brother and she therefore valued him a little above the rest of the lions that had caught her eye over the years. As she approached him now, she smiled and nodded her head respectfully. It was an acknowledgement she gave to every gypsy, the pride was important to her and therefore all of it's inhabitants.

"Greetings. I'm Rani'Kob, I hope I'm not interupting anything." A few of the beads of water glistening in the sun caught her eye, she always was a sucker for something shiny.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Rani'Kob." Dhoru dipped his head in return and flashed a friendly smile. He had noted the purpose in her stride and his interest had peaked. He was very curious to know what Rani - a lioness he had never met - could want with him. A moment of panic gripped him - had he done something wrong? - but only briefly. He was certain he hadn't done anything to upset anyone recently.

"You know, it would be much easier to determine her intentions if you asked her" The voice ringing through his mind dripped with sarcasm.

Dhoru rolled his eyes. Oh, hush up, Hasi. Unfortunately, he had to admit to himself that Hasi was right - which meant Hasi knew that he knew she was right. He could practically feel her smugness. He sighed in mock exasperation before meeting Rani's gaze once more.

"Is there anything I can do for you?"

It was reassuring to see the male's gears were turning, at least he wasn't one of those brainless crazies. In fact he was two crazies together, but that wasn't information Rani was privy to. This was the first thief she was going to approach on her proposition, thankfully it was remote enough of a location for their conversation not to be over heard.

Rani could either shy up and beat around the bush, or just jump straight into the deep end with all four paws.

"It's actually what I hope to do for you." Yeah, that made a good starter. "I'm putting together a band of thieves of sorts." Rani paused to see if she had peaked the attention of the stranger.

Up to now, the only group heist Dhoru had ever been a part of was the recent theft of Bahari cubs, and although that event had eventually led to something good, his hesitance to repeat the experience was understandable.

He gazed at the dark lioness with his eyes narrowed in suspicion. She didn't seem malevolent, and usually a cub heist was arranged and announced by one of the pride's leaders. With these facts in mind, he tentatively decided to delve deeper into the conversation, knowing full well that he might regret it.

"That seems interesting. What would be the intention of this band?" As he waited for a response, he continued to watch Rani for any signs of ill-will. He was alright with stealing from others, but he would no longer willingly be a part of cubnapping.

The lionesses last project she came up with, the cub heist, had left her jaded against getting approval by the individual pride members as well as the hierarchy that stood representing it. Now she was trying to move in a new direction and let those old scars heal.

A relieved smile spread across Rani's face when the male asked a question, it meant to her that anything was now possible.

"It would mostly be for training purposes, we have so much potential talent in the pride with the new blood growing and bringing in their own mates but no system of sculpting them. We're also blessed with gifted lions, such as ourselves, that could share our information and with eager students." There was more to it, but she stopped there and waited for Dhoru.

A small wave of relief swept through Dhoru, but he still remained slightly on guard. Rani hadn't confirmed that no cub theft would be involved. If she intended to steal cubs, he wouldn't try to stop her - he understood the reason for cubnapping and agreed with it - but he didn't want to be involved. The fear in those young cubs was just... too much to handle.

"Your proposal is intriguing, and definitely beneficial to the pride. I'd like to know more, and I'd like to be a part of this, however I must say this before we continue; if you intend to steal cubs, I must refuse. I am... unable to bear the pain the cubs must endure and, regrettably, I fear I would be more hindrance than help. So, I must ask - what exactly is your plan?"

That plan was going to be thrown back into her face for decades, she could feel it. But, this time her non-involvement played to her advantage. Although it made her uneasy on the inside, she had become the master of portraying controlled emotions and simply laughed and flicked her orange mane tuft out of her eyes.

"No cubs. Just trinkets, tokens or souvenirs, not from our allies." As she was reassuring the lion with the most friendly smile she had in her arsenal she was doubting her portrayal. Did she seem like a malicious evil lioness? The cub napping was only a pursuit to serve a purpose in hopes to bring honor to her pride.

"My plan is to help others reach their goals and realize their full potential, it brings joy to my heart. I assure you, your concern is misplaced. However, I would like to keep the band under the radar like a secret club, you see? I just don't want it full of glory hounds." Mainly she meant the young studs adorned in trinkets only in the band to pick up females.

"All of the training would be off pride borders."

Dhoru, now fully reassured, blinked slowly and smiled. He was definitely in. The idea was more than interesting, and he was rather excited to get started.

"That sounds fantastic. And don't worry, I agree completely in the need for secrecy - not only would glory hounds be extremely annoying, but they may also put the group in danger if they decided to show off. After all, the intention is to teach and develop skills, not boost egos. D'you have any idea who else you'd like to invite?"

Dhoru's excitement mounted at Rani's last words. He always looked forward to his adventures outside the pride's lands, although he'd never consider not returning. This was going to be an amazing experience.

Accomplishment exhumed from her chest. This may actually work! So far things were going according to plan.

"Only lions you can trust to keep a secret. I'll have more details for identification, meetings and a method of communication on our first meeting. Thieves only."

Rani only wanted to give away as much information as she needed to at this point. That and she hadn't really figured out all of the details quite yet. But she would rather look omnipotent.

For IC purposes, I'm going to assume that Dhoru's met some other thieves. But I'm going to be setting up a thread for people to apply to the band - I'll be sure to advertise that we don't want any glory hounds. haha

Dhoru slowly nodded his acknowledgement, already deep in thought about which of his fellow thieves might be suited to this endeavor. He had a few faces in mind - those that seemed like they might need assistance, or those with skills that just needed some purpose. Suddenly it occurred to him that he was still missing some details, so he dragged himself from his contemplation.

"Your reasoning is sound. However, I must know - when and where is our first meeting to occur?" Dhoru's tone was utterly respectful; he would be certain to make it clear to all the recruits - and Rani - that she was in charge and deserved the respect. But he still needed to know these things.

"I'll give you directions and show you the signal that I'll hang in a tree. The next day the meeting will be at my off-sight training camp. It's where I've been training for many years." Too many than she'd care to admit to for now.

"I want to wait until we have two recruits each before we set up a meeting date however." This was for protection mostly, but she also wanted to see what Dhoru was actually capable of as a recruiter.

"Come to my cave when you have two, I must go now." Rani wasn't really one for a smooth exit transition, as a thief she had the urge to just run off into the night.

Dhoru listened intently to Rani's instructions, nodding to show that he understood. Two recruits shouldn't be difficult to obtain at all, although he would need to tread carefully to ensure that the plan stayed hushed.

While he had no clear picture of who he would like to recruit, he already had several thieves shoved into the "avoid" section - thieves that had talent, but preened way too much, and the thieves who were less talented and worshiped the braggarts.

"Until later." Dhoru replied in valediction, but the subtle lioness was already padding away.
