User ImageThe buck's blue eyes stared deeply at the amber-colored eyes of his chosen. Jasper smiled at his new friend Tolken, who returned the smile with feelings of happiness. Tolken had wanted to play outside so much since this was his first winter, and Jasper was a pushover when it came to choosing between boredom and a good time. "Alright, let's go. There's still some daylight left!" He then grabbed his coat and scarf, opened the door of Tolken's little hut and they raced each other out the door. They laughed as they ran about. Tolken was enjoying the winter and the snow it brought.

Eventually the day grew dark as the sun began to set. The wind got stronger and the snow was blowing in all directions. They tried to turn back and head home, but neither of them could figure which way to go. "Heh, I think we stayed out a bit too late." Tolken trotted up, still excited over the snow. "We might be lost."

"More than a little lost, friend!" Stepping through the snow like he belonged in it, Garrett's green eyes narrowed against the intense snowstorm, his long jacket tails whipping around his legs. He stood in place once he could see the two clearly, one gloved hand resting on his sword pommel, the other keeping the high collar of his jacket up to ward against the worst of the ice against his ear. "Thank goodness you talk out loud. I'd have thought you a trouble-maker or worse - a wolf - in all that's going on." The dark-haired man tilted his head to the side, expression mostly severe in his delicate reprimand. He seemed to be alone for the time being, his Guardian no where in sight.

"Come," he beckoned to the two, not even flinching at the sight of the regal grey buck, "I'll not ask if you need a guide. If you don't take my offer, you'll freeze to death before another comes by."

sorry about the wait. I was so museless

Both Jasper and Tolken turned their heads to see who had found them in the snowy night. It was a older man with dark hair. Jasper smiled at the sight of him, "Thank goodness you found us. I thought we'd be lost for hours." As the man offered to guide them to safety, Jasper noticed the man's sword and started wondering, as normal as it was, why he was carrying one.

As he and Tolken followed, Jasper wrapped his arms around himself as the chill of the night hit him. Tolken galloped around the two of them as they walked, still enjoying the snow. "So, you really believe there are wolves roaming about? I mean, I heard rumors of wolf sightings, but I always figured they were just rumors."

Don't worry about it, it happens! I totally getcha. c:

"I doubt you'd survive hours," Garrett mused at length, a small smile curving his scarred lips. "Come then." And he was content to lead the other two for the time being, keeping his collar up high against the snow drifts.

As they approached the road -- only notable by the fact his footprints were still visible in the deep snow -- the mercenary turned his green eyes towards the other man at the question, brows lifting somewhere between amusement and disbelief. "You've a Guardian by your side, young sir -- the very ones that protect against the creatures -- and yet still you'd doubt the whispers of wolves?" There was no accusation in his tone, only an intrigued curiosity. Garrett didn't count himself as gullible but he didn't question what he felt in his bones. He had no doubts the rumbling of the return of wolves was no coincidence with the return of the Guardians.

"I do believe. The woods seem too dark and the winter too vicious to discount the idea of their return -- ah, there you are." He extended a gloved hand to reach towards the two glowing orbs of his own Guardian, smoothing his covered fingers along Aravel's cheek and resting on his neck. "Ara believes too, and I don't question him as a standard rule." Turning to the two again, he waved his free hand between himself and the buck. "I'm Garrett; this is Aravel. And you must be freezing!" Again turning to the buck, he began to unfasten a small bundle on the deer's back, unfolding a blanket and shaking it out before passing it to Jasper. "It's a little dirty from the weather but better dirty than dead."

Jasper turned to his Guardian. The man wasn't wrong. He had seen more of the creatures around town recently. Jasper continued listening to the man's reasons for belief when he cut himself off to greet his own Guardian deer. He watched as Garrett introduced himself and Aravel.

At the mention of freezing, Jasper noticed just how cold he was and smiled. "Heh, maybe a little." Jasper accepted the dirty blanket happily. "It's a warm blanket none the less, thank you."

When Tolken spotted the other man's Guardian, he grew excited, thinking that Garrett had provided him with a new friend. He ran up behind Jasper, stopping next to him and kicking snow up at Aravel expecting him to play back. Jasper looked over at Tolken and chuckled as he shook his head. "I'm Jasper by the way. And this playful guy is Tolken."

Garrett smiled at the greetings, the expression slightly lop-sided thanks to the split of his scarred lip. "Nice to meet--"

And Aravel was oh so ready to make a new friend! Perking up immediately, the dappled buck lurched off the snow-trodden road, abruptly dumping the small load of items on his Chosen and bounding after Tolken. He threw his head to and fro, literally bounding straight up with his legs tucked against his body to kick up snow with each bounce, his little tail wagging quite excitedly.

"--! ARA!" The mercenary barked uselessly as he was suddenly supporting an armful of various travel items -- a water skin, leather sheaths that were cracked, whetstones and other such items -- the likes of which he tried to quickly attach to his belt and inner pockets as quickly as he could. It was too damn cold to not hold his jacket closed! "And that'll make two playful bucks. I guess we got lucky, hm?" With a soft snort, he bent down and retrieved a small nondescript bag, tucking it into one of his pockets as he motioned towards a direction that was indistinguishable in the snow storm.

"Let's get our arses into the city and maybe with a warm drink. Warden's balls, it's one wicked winter..."

your name was here but I made an edit

Jasper was surprised by the sudden actions of Aravel as he cut off Garrett and started making his way to Tolken. Tolken was excited to see the other Guardian's reaction to him. He kicked up some more snow before jumping off to play.

Jasper looked back and forth between the two deer and Garrett, who was busy trying to save his supplies. Then he mentioned the luck in the two bucks meeting. "Ha, yeah, I guess we did." Jasper returned his gaze to Tolken and Aravel, letting a soft smile onto his face, watching his Guardian jumping about happily.

Jasper turned back to Garrett, seeing him pocket his last item and then turn to head in the direction they had been going. Jasper was pleased by the thought of a warm drink, especially in this truly cold weather. "Sounds like a plan." Jasper was more than ready to get out of the cold.

Let me know if you'd prefer not to continue! Apologies for the delay!

The mercenary trusted the two Guardians to handle themselves, even if they were frolicking like fawns. Aravel had always been overly playful, and to meet another like himself was clearly exciting to the buck; the Chosen could feel all the joy radiating from his companion, and despite himself, he smiled.

As they slowly made their way towards the city, Garrett continued to hold his jacket closed, looking over to Jasper as best he could. "So you were really just out to have a grand ol' time, hm?" There was no judgment in his tone, just simple curiosity. "It's nice to see a healthy bond between Guardian and Chosen. So rarely do I see it anymore -- it's all fear, a lack of understanding or discontent at one's lot in life." And another smile curved his scarred lips as Aravel entirely lacked grace in how he slipped in the snow and stumbled, catching his footing before bounding around Tolken again. "I don't see how anyone could take their presence as less than joy."
