It was time for a little bit of fresh air - being on pod duty had a way of trying to suck the life out of you, and Cass found herself often making a mad dash for the stairs to head outside and just enjoy the breeze a little bit. It could have been full of rancid death-stench and it still would have been preferable to the hot, muggy, thick air that was laced with mold.
Hard to believe she'd woken up into that almost two years previously, and every time she came outside the sky seemed to just be even more clear (despite the clouds) than any she'd ever seen growing up, seeming to sigh contently as she stared off over the training fields and watched some of their newer recruits in the midst of their spars.
She took a deep breath, pulling her shoulders back before stretching her arms up above her head. "Another good day to be alive." she mused before leaning back against the door frame - she'd avoid going back downstairs for a while and just hope nothing happened while she was absent her post.

Ryan was also out and about for the same reasons. Staying cooped up in Wilson's dorm all day was starting to drive him nuts and since there was no actual harm in going outside for a breath of fresh air, he opted to do exactly that. Only when he did, he wasn't expecting to actually encounter anyone when he did or end up where he had.
Without paying attention to where he was walking to, he actually managed to walk right in front of the life labs, just as Cass made her way up and out for her own break.demon_pachabel Short tag, 'cause my brain is friiiiied |D

Processing.
Processing.
Hey wait.
Wasn't that -
"Good to see you back." Cass greeted, offering the Moon a small wave and a smile - genuine. Maybe she'd already known Ryan and Kat were back - after all, she wasn't completely blind during that massive free-for-all that had happened.

"Err..." Ryan froze the moment she spoke. She didn't look as though she was angry with him, but he didn't want to take his chances by assuming she wasn't. "Hi umm... Kate... no Crissy?" The last time he had actually talked to her, was when he first woke up from coming out of a pod, back when everyone gathered in the dorm hallway. "Sorry, its been a while and I'm not good with names."
It was something he really needed to work on, in fact.

Cass laughed. "Cassandra Hasan. Cass." she shrugged. So her last name wasn't 'officially' Hasan yet. Close enough for her, she figured she'd just have that be the name committed to memory if anything was going to be remembered. No need to go into maiden names and the like.
"But you had the right ballpark." she praised, clapping both her hands together. "You're Ryan, right? Got grabbed by the cops on our booze run last Christmas."
Memories.

Cass! That was it. The last name didn't ring a bell, but her first one did.
"Ryan yeah--err..." Ah now that, that was not something he was wanting to be remembered by. In fact, he had been hoping that that little incident would stay buried in the past. Where it belonged. That whole mission had sucked and the consequences of it were even worse. "yeah..." He finished lamely. "You guys made it out okay that time, right?" He hadn't seen them at the hellish place known as the 'youth correction facility.' Good thing to. It wasn't an experience he would wish on anyone.

Cass nodded, placing a hand on Ryan's shoulder sympathetically. "Yeah. Barely. Was gonna go back in for you, but then my now-husband threw my through the portal like 'NOPE'." She made a face right there - one that said 'Damn him thwarting my would-be heroics that wouldn't have ended well'.
"Kind of felt bad, actually."

"Trust me, it was good thing he did." He shuddered at the memory of it all. "That place was uhh, well... Lets just say you're better off never getting trapped in a place like that." Really. He hated every minute of it. Worse, it had been for something that wasn't even his fault! If the one responsible for that mission had been alive this day, he probably would have still held a grudge against them for it. But she wasn't, and there was no use holding a grudge against the dead.
"Don't be. I'm just glad you all made it out safely and that I got out when I did." If he had been stuck there any longer, he might really have lost it.

"Oh, I'm sure I've been in worse places than a correctional facility. I mean, there were other living people there, right?
The empty ones with bars that rattle themselves and mysterious blood stains on the floor that form all of a sudden are.... less fun I'd say." There was a borderline traumatized look on Cass's face as she made the assessment.
"Still. Nice to see you've made your way back to us again. Less fun out there then it tends to be in here. Less safe too." A pause. "Caelius nonwithstanding."

"Hmm that's debatable." Truth be told, he might have actually preferred the empty one to the one with the one full of 'captives' and those responsible for catching and 'correcting' them. "Lets just leave it as, correctional facilities just suck. No matter their status." Though judging by the way her expression changed, he could tell she had some personal experience with them herself.
"Still trying to make my mind up on that one, myself." He admitted. "Don't get me wrong, its definitely better than being left out to fry in the desert, or remain in the horsemen dungeons, but I'm not really sure I'm welcome back here yet." Safe was also very debatable still.

Cass had experience with a lot of places. But correctional facilities had a special place in her heart. And hospitals. Oh, she hated hospitals a lot.
"Well. I'd say after whatever fiasco that got you thrown out, it'd make sense that you weren't exactly welcomed back with open arms. I mean..." Cass scratched her nose. "I had a lot more support than I expected at all after I bludgeoned Petra into a coma in the cafeteria." she admitted, sinking a little bit. Yeah. She wasn't sure where she and Robert stood at the moment. She'd helped him get carted to the infirmary and then after that......
"I wasn't on the mission when whatever went down. In fact, nobody has actually told me what happened, for the most part. But if you're willing to be back there has to be some flexibility in there, right?"

"True enough." In truth, he didn't expect to be welcome back at all and aside from a few friends, few even knew he was back on the island. "You did that?" He gave her a curious look. "I had heard the rumors, but I never expected it would be someone like you who caused it--err no offense." That would teach him to be more wary of the female Deus hunters.
"Hmm see... I don't even remember coming back here. Apparently I blacked out or something and someone brought me back." He shrugged. By all rights, they should have left him for dead. He had been cast out and exiled, so why they wasted the time and effort to bring him back was beyond him.

Cass didn't exactly seem proud of it. "I reached my breaking point." she replied. "I'm not proud of it, but.... well, I hit a lot harder than I ever expected I would both on and off the battlefield, I guess." she'd also been the one to accidentally cut Julie and suddenly insects everywhere and...... more PTSD could have been related to that too. How did any of them function with half of the s**t they'd seen?
"So you haven't bothered to try jumping ship again?" she asked. "Sticking around, seeing if you can sneak out then?"

"I would have to question your character if you did." He answered. Not many people would enjoy beating someone, especially their friend, into a coma. Well. Except maybe on certain occasions. But as she said, she was at her breaking point.
"I didn't jump the first time." He pointed out, frowning. "If I had made the choice, I would picked a friendlier climate." There was a weak smile, but it quickly disappeared again. "it depends on Caelius, really." Either he was going to throw them out again, let them live, throw them into the pods, or worse. In the end it was his choice.

"I'd question it too. Probably question Marcus' taste in women too." Oh that man. He seemed to think she was a goddess of some kind. Nice to feel special, but really.
Cass folded her arms, tilting her head slightly to one side. "The question still stands: Are you even interested in being here still or would you rather be somewhere else? Friendlier climate, that is."
