Ajia was in an interesting situation. She was a Jini-msemi cub spending her youth in lands that were not their own. Too young to know what she had missed -- and too future-orientated to long for what was in the past -- she had no hard feelings about any of it. The lions here were interesting, marked with all sorts of patterns and pictures. She had already learned things by asking about them. The day before, she'd found out what an elephant was.

If Ajia had one wish, it would not be to return to the swamps. Instead, she would wish for a God to color some of her fur. Anything dark. Anything other than white. She so much as walked on dirt and she looked like she'd spent the day rolling in it!

-- So, hey, why not?

Ajia floundered like a fish out of water all over the ground that sunny and otherwise normal afternoon.
