Kiran glanced around the arena at the crowd in the stands, hardly able to pick out any faces among the throng of Lunarians gathered to watch the battles. Was anyone he knew up there watching him? If that was case, he hoped he didn't make too much of a fool of himself in this tournament. His gaze fell before him to the man that he would be facing off against in this fight.
He was a big man, though compared to Kiran's smaller lithe form not might not be saying much. His shaggy beard looked like a tangled mess hanging down off his chin. Was that bread crumbs in the hair of his beard? The man looked like he didn't bother to bathe for a week, or maybe closer to a month. Kiran watched with some boredom as the man made a show of slapping hand to his shoulder and pinwheeling the other arm in preparation to the fight. No weapons could be seen on the man, perhaps deciding to rely on brute strength to win the competition, but Kiran didn't think it wise to take the man at face value. Concealed weapons weren't uncommon, and under the thick layers of clothes that the man wore, Kiran couldn't determine if there was or wasn't some sharp implement to attack him with.
Reaching behind his back, Kiran brought out his pair of tonfas. He spun the one in his right hand as he fell into a fighting stance. With one arm stretched out farther before him, he beckoned the man to come at him as half a smirk appeared across his face. Kiran planned to make quick work of this man.

Bathing was for chumps. So was smelling good. He'd found that it made his opponents alarmingly easier to vanquish. Som tightened his belt, shifted his feet in his sandals, and he did, in fact, have a weapon. But it was not originally meant as such. Technically, they were not meant to be weapons. On each finger he had a glorious ring, many of them jewel-encrusted, others battered beyond recognition. But they would definitely have been valuable, once. When Som managed to land a hit, he would make it hurt.
If only he could catch the tiny thing. "Are you lost, kid? I've gotta fight a guy here, and it's not gonna be painless. Come closer, and I can toss you out of the ring and out of both our ways," Som suggested, his accent heavy, broken teeth showing as he smiled back at the young man.
Yue Lao, who had already forfeited her first round, watched from the stands, rolling her eyes at the large man. Where did these Lunarians even come from? She cheered for Kiran, crossed her arms over her chest and snuck off to find some food.

His eyes narrowed, his smirk falling as anger tingled just below the surface of his skin. This man was calling him kid?! Kiran knew he wasn't the biggest guy around, but he didn't much like some smelly, dirty jerk throwing an insult like "kid" at him. As he stood up straight again, Kiran lifted a hand, placing the flat of it against his brows as he looked around the arena like he was searching for something.
"That's funny," he said before he lowered his hand and returned his gaze to his opponent. "I could have sworn this is where I was supposed to come for my fight. I wonder what happened to my opponent. All I see is some boneheaded swine." He frowned with a play of confusing drawing his brows together.
Insulting a bigger, stronger opponent was probably - well usually most definitely - not the wisest decision in a fight. Especially one with a pea sized brain that could probably pulverize him in one blow. Well, Kiran did have speed on his side. He could probably outrun this joker and avoid taking a hit. Or at least, that was what he thought. But he wasn't very good at keep his mouth shut from throwing back an insult. It was a terrible habit of his that he never worked much on to prevent the words from spilling from his mouth. Maybe he really hadn't grown up that much from his days at the Academy.
Out of the corner of his eye, Kiran thought he saw a familiar shock of dark magenta hair in the crowd. He turned his head to catch a better glimpse, but the person was gone before he could. Was that Yue? Had she come to watch his fight?

Som had no clue how old he really was, and he didn't care. In reality, Som had far less professional training than his opponent, far less skill and no battle experience at all. He was just a brawler. Just a big, stupid brawler. And "smelly, dirty jerk" described him pretty accurately. Even once you got to know Som, he didn't really get any better, just more obnoxious. The layers to his self-involvement were fascinating, really, like an optical illusion.
"I'm a comedian, too," he agreed, "come closer and you won't even see pigs! Wherever they are," Som retorted. He wasn't very kind, he wasn't very pretty and he wasn't very smart. "You're scared, aren't you? Kid! Just a scared kid!" Som took a few steps, which turned into a slow jog and then a terrifying barelling charge straight at Kiran, one fist held out. His footsteps were so heavy they seemed to make the loose stones on the ground quiver with each thundering fall.
Yue Lao did want to watch, but she was also hungry. She'd find him after the tournament, surely.

Kiran quirked an eyebrow upward. The man hardly sounded like a comedian to him. Kiran almost wondered if the man ever stepped foot inside of a school in the whole of his life. But that thought fled from his mind, and he gritted his teeth in anger. His hands tightened around the handles of his tonfas until his knuckles turned white.
He snorted at the man. "Why would I be scared of a squealing little pig?" He laughed at the very suggestion.
Then the man moved. At first it didn't seem like a big deal, and Kiran was certain that he could dodge the moment the man reached him and tried to attack. But then the man picked up speed. He no longer seemed like a simple smelly brute too slow in brain and body to be a threat. No, now he appeared like a large boulder barreling nonstop down a steep hill with no hope of being stopped.
Okay. Maybe a little scared now, Kiran thought with a gulp as the distance between them closed quickly. And with those large, bulging muscles in the other man's arms, Kiran knew the first blow the man landed would hurt. A lot. He really didn't want to how painful that man's punch would be. Kiran dodged out of the way, jumping to the side and rolling into a crouch, before the man could run him over. Maybe he could win this of his opponent was stupid enough to rely on barreling head on like a bull. But he couldn't simply stay on the defense. He couldn't win the fight without attacking. Launching toward the man, Kiran threw a punch, hoping to make his strike before his opponent could reroute his charge.

Som’s face had broken into a grin as the distance between them closed rapidly. It was remarkable, really, that he could muster that kind of speed given his size and weight. Just when he thought he’d had the smaller guy, though, he found himself engulfing air. Confusion was quick to follow as he turned left and right looking for his opponent. It was a damn fast little kid, this one.
Something tapped him on the arm, and he looked down, oblivious to the fact that the poke was supposed to be a punch. “Ah, there you are!” he cried joyfully, opening his burly arms wide. “Come give me a hug!” He would squeeze the kid to death if he could catch him.
Van regarded the match with a scowl on her face. She was doing her job of monitoring Noble fights, but even she didn’t want to see her friend lose to some ugly brute. “Get it together, Kiran!”

Kiran gasped, almost wanting to shout out after his punch connected with the man's arm. It was like a solid brick wall! If felt like every bone in his fingers broke on impact, even though he was pretty sure that the bones remained intact and whole. How was he going to beat this man if his attacks didn't have any effect on the man? His opponent barely even noticed the punch as anything more than a bee sting.
He gulped nervously when his opponent turned around to him with a joyful cry. Outstretched arms threatened to close around as Kiran stood still, fright flickering in his eyes. He needed a strategy to defeat this man! If physical attacks didn't work, maybe he could try a strangle hold until the man passed out. But that would require actually getting close enough to the man to do so. Some told Kiran that would be impossible. Being with this man's range for any long period of time promised pain.
His moment of planning kept him distracted for too long. The thick arms wrapped about his body in a steely grip that threatened to cut off his entire supply of air. Kiran wheezed, struggling to wiggle his way from of the vice lock the man had on him, but he had little room to make any maneuvers to free himself. What was the deal with this man? His strength seemed beyond impossible.
A shout from the crowd somehow broke through the noise, and Kiran felt a sinking twist in his gut. Van was here watching him too? And he was looking so pathetic in this fight! Kiran took a chance and smashed his head forward into the other man's head.

The man threw his head back, raucous laughter tearing from his throat the minute he realized he had the kid in his arms. He squeezed his arms around his opponent, enveloping him in a vice grip that stronger men couldn’t come out of even if they tried. “What’s wrong, boy? You look a little pale,” he said, spittle flying from his mouth as he spoke, his ugly face inches from his opponent’s.
Just a few more seconds, and he’d have the win. Before that could happen, though, some force hit him straight in the forehead, and he dropped the other Lunarian to rub his head a bit, dazed. What could have caused that?
Several moments later—longer than most—he realized that it had to have been the kid! Anger rolled up from his gut, and the grin that had been on his face earlier was no more. Whirling around, he swung his large fist in a large arc. “I’m gonna send you home to mommy!”

Ugh! Kiran groaned mentally at the spit the splashed onto his face when the man spoke. As if being up close and personal with the man's stinking breath wasn't bad enough, he had to be bathed in his spit as well.
He hit the ground when the man released him and landed with a grunt on his back. The sky above him seemed to spin before his eyes, and his head throbbed like never before. What was that man's head made of?! The headbutt was probably not a smart idea, but he couldn't think of a better move in that situation. His arms were pinned at his side, eliminating any chance of punching the man though that didn't work out well the first time he tried it. He doubted trying to kick at the man would have gotten him a better result.
Oh crap! Pissed off the crazy strong guy! The thought managed to cut through the pain when he spied the fist descending upon him. He rolled to the side just as the fist was about to land a powerful blow. Something scraped along his backside, and Kiran winced, biting down hard on his tongue. He finished rolling away and scrambled to his feet. His back stung like crazy, and he stumbled, his vision blurring and his head still throbbing.
"Forfeit!" Kiran shouted. He could beat himself up over forfeiting the fight, but he didn't see himself walking away from this if he let it continue. The big brute sounded like he was out for blood after that headbutt. "I can do that, right?" He held a hand to his forehead and tried to keep himself steady on his feet. Some part of his aching mind was fairly certain conceding defeat was allowed.
