Personality and Backstory:

Maritime is the senior member of the Retsunin, and is actually the most laid back of the group. He takes things in stride, and generally tries to enjoy himself whenever he can. That's not to say he's a slacker. He's the first one to complete tasks that need done, and always does so as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is partly so that he can have more time to relax. He takes his role as the senior Retsunin and Heavenly King of the North very seriously, but just doesn't get overly worked up about things.

He also has a lot of patience for others, and generally is very kind to everyone he meets. All of these traits combined make it easy for others to rely on him and be relaxed.



Maritime was raised in a small village in the mountains. His village was always plagued with blizzards, making it difficult to hunt and fish. Even as a child, he had nearly limitless patience and always believed everything would work out. He believed that the Deities had a plan, and that they would not forsake his village. This caught Phrigustus' interest, and he sent his emissary and younger brother, Sub-Zero, to meet the boy. As a reward for his faith, Phrigustus parted the blizzard around the village and let it prosper then onward. Sub-Zero recruited young Hisomu to learn the ways of Cryomancy as his disciple, and the rest is history.

Maritime discovered that cryomancy was not widely practiced because it's a very precise and difficult discipline to master. Deities like Cryos and Phrigustus gained the power over ice and cold from the divine. The Toukan were born with it. Humans could not naturally create it because there was no innate source of power to draw on. Not to mention attempting to control ice and cold was considered heresy against Cryos, when he was in power.

So he studied long and hard, and found a way to make it possible. Before standard ice-spells were introduced, Maritime pioneered human cryomancy by introducing the concept of "Element Fusion". In order for a human to control ice freely, they had to use another power as a medium. Maritime created his own discipline of Shadow Magic by combining light and shade, which he later referred to as "Ice Shade".

Of course, cryomancy spells have since been standardized by traditional magic, but Ice Shade techniques give him a greater degree of control than even an elite Frost Wizard could achieve.

This foundation is ultimately what created the Retsunin as an elite corps of people. Sub-Zero told him several times that he could have led them in his place before, but Maritime preferred the "senior student" role over the "master" role. He said he'd prefer to lead by example rather than lecture.


Fighting Style

Maritime's Ice Shade powers is unique to him, partially because it's so difficult to master three elements simultaneously: light, shadow, and ice. Basically he gathers energy from surrounding light, channels that energy through shadows, and creates ice. This sounds very limiting and specific, and it would be to anyone else. Maritime's lifetime as a ninja makes it possible for him to subtly control light and shadow around him without any movement whatsoever, making people believe it's natural phenomena....only to be surprised when ice spikes shoot out of shadows that came out of nowhere.

Despite being so relaxed and easy-going, Maritime is very focused and perceptive. He's always aware of his surroundings and can act with the least amount of energy and time wasted. He's truly a master at what he does.

Personality and Backstory:

Bliz has a somewhat outgoing personality, and often likes to flirt with women, and this has led to many many many failures of trying to date Niva. Though he's built up a considerable alcohol tolerance, if not infinitely weaker compared to Niva's. He's not a pig, but loves the attention of the farier sex. He's surprisingly mindful of his words and actions, all things considered.

Bliz was once a talented up-and-coming wizard, and a rival wizard hired the Retsunin to kill him. He was able to survive, and became enamored at the Retsunin's abilities. Never before had he ever seen people wielding frost powers. He had read about the Toukan doing it, but became excited at this new development. He pleaded to let him learn about cryomancy, and became even more skilled in it than standard magic as a result.

He is largely interested in learning new ways of interacting with the elements, and always is up for a new challenge in that regard. Unlike the other Retsunin, he can wield other forms of magic...though admittedly, they've waned in power because he's focused so much on learning to develop Frost Magic. He is the authority on the school of Frost Magic, though you wouldn't think so by looking at him.


Fighting Style

Bliz is somewhat of an oddball of the Restunin. Unlike the others, he focuses on using Frost Magic, kind of. He is credited in Frost Magic Tomes as the one who first standardized frost spells for magical use. He pioneered it by combining Time Magic with Water Magic, using Mana as a link between the two. His own cryomancy is diverse and doesn't require spells or runes, but he wanted to help the magic community...so now standardized versions of his techniques are taught as standard Frost Magic through either runes or incantations.

Despite being more of an academic, he definitely does not slack in physical training. In fact, he does the most heavy weight lifting out of the entire group. He'll often use frost spells for their freezing properties, more than the standard "damage". Then he'll attack with brute force when the time is right.
