PERSONALITY
General:
Many people tend to find themselves innately attracted to Murdina for her quiet understanding, emotional depth, persistence and penetrating mind. She's the kind of person that prefers to work in the background, the unsung helper, the friend who always gets you that glass of tea when you're distraught, the type of person who notices things. And Murdina certainly notices. She's an extraordinarily clever witch though her intelligence tends to lean more towards perception and innate knowledge of herself and her opponent more then it does long winded math problems or potion recipes. However her unusual loyalty and drive to protect her friends and to aid those around her makes it rather clear why she was placed in Hufflepuff rather then Ravenclaw. However unlike most Hufflepuffs Murdina prefers to work towards her own goals as an individual rather then towards the betterment of the whole. That won't stop her though from trying to make her own projects mesh and as long as what she's accomplishing for the group is something meaningful that can result in personal success she's just as willing to work with others as anyone else.
Habits:
Hobbies: Swimming, reading, playing with the giant squid, singing, listening to music, playing the harp, gossiping with the merfolk
Likes: water, baths, merfolk, books, all kinds of music, the giant squid, magical creatures, stories, shiny things, and warmth
Dislikes: winter, hot dry places, being made fun of for her looks, being called a half-breed, not being allowed to swim, and having her work interrupted.
FAMILY
Mother: Melusine (Siren)
Father: Captain Robert S. Kraken (wizard)
Siblings: none
Extended Family:
-Cheif Sycall of Serfopoula island (Siren grandfather)
-Teths of Serfopoula island (Siren grandmother)
-Captain Andrew Kraken (Muggle Grandfather)
-Bellona Kraken (Witch Grandmother
-Tarius Kraken (Uncle Wizard)
Relationship with Family:
Murdina is greatly adored and beloved by her father and human grandparents though they tend to coddle her too much overly worried about how the world will receive her. Her uncle is none too friendly towards her considering her to be a freak, but is protective of her if only because she is family. Every other summer she goes down to greece to visit her mother and tribe and stay on the reservation with them. She loves them a good deal even if her slightly slower swimming speed tends to make her a bit of a straggler.
HISTORY
General History:
Robert S. Kraken was a seasoned magical ship captain and part of the Beast Division of the Ministry's Control of Magical Creatures Division and was set to Captain a ship to catalog possible new species along the East African Coast. However when they were sailing past Italy and through the Mediterranean sea on their way to the Suez canal their ship was caught in a terrible magical storm and had the mast broken. Urging his fellows to abandon ship Captain Robert stayed at the helm hoping to hold the vessel steady long enough for his fellows to get away and possibly guide it and it's precious cargo of equipment and magical records into safe harbor. The ship however went down and for a long time Captain Robert was believed to have gone down with it.
However the Captain survived to wash up on the uninhabited island of Serfopoula in the middle of the Greek Merfolk reservation. Injured, exhausted, wandless and unable to apparate due to the reservation restrictions Robert lay helpless on the beach for two days with a broken leg until by chance a young siren came upon the dehydrated wizard. With what bare grasp of Mermish Robert had he was able to ask the young siren for help. The Siren, the cheif's daughter by the name of Melusine brought his plight before his father and fetched the injured man water. Eventually the tribe agreed to help look out for Robert until he was found or they were able to contact someone to come get him. Since she had been the one to find him Melusine was held as being responsible for keeping an eye on the shipwrecked wizard and helped care for and keep the man company. Over the next few weeks as his leg healed Robert and Melusine grew close as she helped helped widen his understanding of the Mermish language the two of them often having a play on words with each others respective languages. This closeness however soon grew into something more. . .love.
Captain Robert was stranded on that island for three years before rescue eventually came in the form of the Ministry's usual five year census of the reservation. There upon that abandoned island living in a small cave they stumbled upon Captain Robert whom they had believe to be dead and his one year old baby, a daughter he'd named Murdina. At first the half-merfolk child was looked upon with a mixture of surprise, disgusts, and curiosity much to her father's fury an annoyance. However since other half-breeds such and half-vampires, half-veela's and half-giants had been tolerated so was she. Eventually Robert and Murdina were released to return to Robert's family on the condition that Murdina would have to attend wizarding school if she showed magical aptitude and would not be allowed to reside on the reservation though visits would be allowed. However if she showed no magical aptitude she would be classified same as the Merfolk and allowed to reside with them and her mother should she choose to do so.
Raising Murdina was not easy for Robert specially as a single father. Her skin needed constant tending too in the cold London winters and would get chapped and dried out without constant baths or special lotions and cream to keep it from cracking and drying up. Murdina hated the winter. It was dark, dreary, and most of all terribly cold leaving her bundled up like crazy to try and stay warm. Whenever they went out in public she had to hide her skin and gills lest she be questioned on them and even was urged by Robert to do so when attending wizarding areas like Diagon Alley simply to avoid any harm others might wish upon her. It seemed all to ironic that a species labeled as 'beasts' were more understanding of Murdina then the wizarding world was and for a while much to Robert's relief Murdina showed little to no magical aptitude other then her uncanny gift with animals, but he simply assumed that was due to her mother's blood in her. It looked for a long time that Murdina would be returning to the reservation. That is until she was ten and playing in the backyard when a couple of young wizarding boys climbed the fence and began poking fun at the 'freak.' Pushing, pulling and prodding Murdina as she huddled in a ball crying and trying to scramble away they finally went too far she she lashed out with her little fists. What should have been a light bump though sent one of the boys flying right into the tree and the next stuck half way into the ground with a yelp that brought her father running to survey the damage. It would seem Murdina G. Kraken would be attending wizarding school after all. A fact that was only further confirmed when her letter arrived a few weeks later in the mail after her eleventh birthday.
