Watching water ripples was a favorite past-time of the Gancanagh's.

Was, being the key word.

Reaching into his bag, he pulled out a small gem and eyed it for a long moment, turning it over in his fingers. With a decisive sigh, he chucked it out into the lake, watching it sink almost expectantly. After a few more long moments, his shoulders dropped and he reached into his bag again, pulling out a handful of gems and colored trinkets that he stared at in his palm.

The faerie was completely engrossed in his thoughts, and was oblivious to anything around him.

Watching water ripples was something Marzena tried to avoid, but couldn't help being drawn to it anyway.

Not when ripples were usually caused by something being thrown into the water, and that something sinking into the deep depths of the lake. It reminded her of swimming deep down below for long periods, reminded her achingly of home and all her siblings. It reminded her of what she could not do, not when she couldn't find the witch no matter how hard she tried, not when she had no way to shift back into a seal.

She was sitting at the edge of the lake, legs submerged in the water up to her knees, when something small flew past her and landed into the lake. The selkie watched it sink, blue eyes almost hypnotized by it, before snapping out of her reverie and realizing that someone had thrown it.

Marzena turned, spotted the winged boil, and glared. "What do you think you're doing? Trying to make an offering to some water dragon?" No really, Marzena had no idea what his purpose was in chucking shiny stuff into the lake. It wasn't exactly what one would call polluting the water, but it was weird.

...Also, she was sort of annoyed that such a simple, stupid little act would make her feel this way. Especially when it was a decision she had made of her own accord, and after futile efforts to find the witch, Marzena had decided to live with it.

Jerking and closing his palm around the trinkets, Marosa turned to stare at the other, eyes drawn to the skin around her shoulders.

"Oi'm sorry, Oi..." She was a selkie. Just like Muirin. She looked quite a bit younger, but those eyes, and the hair. They set him back, and he was unable to find words right away.

"Oi was jes..." The fey stared at her for a moment longer, then looked away. "Nae, it's nothin'." Marosa shook his head, embarrassed. How was he supposed to explain to her that she resembled a younger version of his Muirin?

His Muirin, who he left pining away to death.

The fey cringed.

"Yer verrah pretty." The Gancanagh stated lamely, unable to think of anything else to say.

Alright, so at least he seemed to feel guilty for his actions? Or perhaps, guilty for being caught. He didn't really go further to explain exactly why though, and for a moment, her gaze drifted back to the lake, wondering if one of his friends was swimming around inside and caught the item.

And yet, things became weirder when he seemed to be stumbling over his words and then, managed out that one full sentence.

"Yer verrah pretty."

She froze. Ocean blue eyes snapped back to stare at him, wide-eyed, mouth set in a line. Marzena did not like being called pretty. Her sisters would have adored compliments, especially Sabina, whose incredulous voice echoed in her mind now. 'And when she ruined her hair and goes around with a scowl on her face, she still gets called pretty!' Of course, they didn't actually know that her hair was different now. Only two people who would be able to tell her sisters had sworn not to say anything, and Marzena was sure both her brother and Sibyl would keep their word.

A sigh escaped from her lips. "Thanks. ...I guess."

His mind was going a mile a minute.

Marosa wasn't sure what else to say, but the two main facts were present: She was a selkie, and she was sitting right next to him. His wings fluttered uselessly against his back, and he slid the trinkets back into their respectful bag, closing it tight and tucking it into the bag around his kilt.

"Ye dinnae like bein' called pretty?" The fey stopped and thought about it, chuckling slightly. "Nae, she wouldn't like bein' called dat, eider..." He could hear her in his mind, chiding him but secretly loving it. Her eyes told him so, in his memory. He had to keep talking to keep his mind from sabotaging himself.

Curling his hands around his waist, Marosa glanced at her with a forlorn expression. "Oi dun s'pose ye know of anuddr selkie... named Muirin?" He could hope, but there was also a chance that this selkie most likely didn't know who he was talking about. The Gancanagh leaned forward for her answer, his curly reddish hair tumbling down over his shoulders as his golden eyes watched intently.

He hoped that she hadn't pined away for him. Hoped...

"It's..." Marzena was about to say 'not very pleasant', especially for those of her species, but his continuing words intrigued her and stopped her reply short. "I like your friend." A small smirk quirked up at the corner of her lips. Being pretty was a weakness. A weakness that was exploited by way of the skin that was wrapped around her, the skin that she had gone to lengths to protect.

Ah. So his friend had been a selkie. That explained why he seemed shocked when he had noticed her, then. Marzena couldn't help but like his friend even more. Selkies were, in general, usually quite vain. It was a trait that led to their downfall, and she was glad to note that someone else out there understood. But there was something in his eyes that made her think that he had lost contact with this Muirin. "...I don't, sorry." She had grown up in a clan with many selkies, including Sibyl who had chased her here, but she didn't remember a Muirin.

"I wish I did. She sounds nice."

"She was. Amazing, too." Marosa murmured softly, his head bowing as he let his curls fall over his face. "Oi loved ta give her trinkets, throwin' 'em into th'lake..." He continued, his voice gruff as his gaze went back out over the water. The ripples had stopped save for a few breezes touching upon the surface, and the fey shifted to lean back against the ground, eyes staring at the sky with a forlorn expression. "Surprise 'er..."

"It's alrigh'." He couldn't expect her to know every single person, but he felt a regretful pang in his heart.

Marzena wasn't sure if she was detecting something more than friendship between Muirin and... this boil. Still, what was past, was past, she supposed, and she never had been terribly interested in that sort of relationships. It was, admittedly, better than being captured away by a human... or had that been the fate of Muirin? Eyes narrowed as she contemplated this thought, unsure of whether she should bring this up.

"I see. So that's why you were throwing them in?" A part of her still thought it was ridiculous, because Muirin wasn't here, obviously, and it was just an action fueled by sentiment. Yet, a small; very very small, part of her did sympathize. Sort of. Just a tiny little bit.

"You lost contact with a selkie. Have you ever thought of... the worst?" If it was the truth, it was a hard truth to accept. If any of her sisters, or even Sibyl, however annoying Marzena sometimes thought them to be, had their skin stolen away by a human and was forced to live with him... She couldn't even imagine what she would feel if that were to happen.

"Aye, oi've thought o'the worst." His fingers dug into the ground as he clenched his eyes shut, teeth gritting together in pain. "It's my fault, really." A confession, as he just couldn't keep it in any longer. "Oi should've known better, should've just kept ta meself..."

Bringing a hand up, the Gancanagh pinched the bridge of his nose very hard, attempting to stave off the tears. He really didn't know what love was, but they had a good friendship, and he didn't know if there was a possibility of something more coming out of it.

If his father hadn't intervened... he never would have known. She would have just faded away from his memories. Thanks to his father, however, guilt plagued his conscious mind as her ragged form appeared in his thoughts, and he couldn't help but think that everything was his fault from the very beginning.

"Sometimes oi... jes wish I was... summun' else. Jes... fer a... wee bit." His voice was breaking as his hand shook, attempting to keep himself calm and under wraps.

He was pathetic, crying in front of a complete and total stranger, even if they had just met.

His fault? Eyes narrowed into slits. How could a selkie having her skin stolen be his fault? Marzena hadn't thought that the worst possible situation she had brought up was different from the one he imagined in his mind. To her, the worst fate a selkie could have was to be trapped by a mere human for his lust.

And now he was crying.

Marzena had never known how to deal with crying, and was utterly awkward and confused as how to comfort someone. It was a trait she had inherited from her father; Manfred had never known how to explain to an angry young ghoul who had seen his wife's capture and to comfort her for her loss. Marzena merely sat there quietly, letting him cry it all out.

"Don't we all?" She murmured wistfully, her tone less sharp as it had been before. "I wish that I didn't have to fear that any of my sisters could be forced to live with a human just because he stole her skin." A pause as she attempted to offer some comfort. "She might return, you know. My mother did escape. ...Eventually."

Oh, if only it had been that easy.

"Nae. If her skin ha'been stolen, she woulda been herself. Nay... it was me fault. All me fault... Oi alone was responsible... fer her demise..." Marosa breathed out now, forcing his tears away as he stretched a hand towards the sky, mimicking wrapping it around a cloud and squeezing it in his fist.

"Oi'm a faerie. The type tat make others fall in love with 'em. Oi didn't mean ta, it jes... happens." He cringed. "Oi'm sorry fer... this. Oi dinnae mean ta make ye worry."

"My name's Marosa." He couldn't remember if he told her his name or not, but making sure was better than nothing. He glanced towards the lake again, sitting up and patting his trinkets. "Oi used ta greet her dis wey, tossing 'em in as gifts..." Picking up the bag, he lifted it and set it away from him, towards Marzena so that she wouldn't have to touch him. "Ye kin choose one, if'n ye like. Fer yer troubles of havin' ta listen ta dis sod." Marosa pinched the bridge of his nose again, calm once more though still perturbed.

At least his eyes were dry now.

Marzena would have been further confused by him insisting it was his fault... until he had said she was dead.

Dead.

Her blood ran cold as she stared at the winged boil, part of her almost wanting to inch away. He was responsible for her death. And it had something to do with making others fall in love with him? Did that have to do with Muirin being dead? And yet... "You asked me for her whereabouts. Does that mean that you aren't sure that she's dead?"

"She's one of my kind." Marzena stated with a shrug. In all honestly, she hadn't been particularly worried about the faerie boil. Sure, he had cried, and she had absolutely no idea how to comfort him. But she had more so been... well, mildly concerned about Muirin's fate. "A selkie with a sensible head on her shoulders is not a common thing."

"Marzena." She stated her name, after he had introduced himself. "It's alright; it wasn't really much trouble." She glanced towards the bag and shrugged. Marzena had no need for trinkets, and she hadn't really done much. "Honestly, it was quite..." She swung her legs back and forth in the water, "Interesting, really."

"Oi dinnae roightly know." Marosa replied, shoulders slumping as he stared at his legs dully. "Usually dey touch us, then tat makes 'em long for a wee bit more contact. We need ta touch, dey need to touch back." He didn't know if Muirin was dead or not, but it was most likely true. His thoughts went once again back to his father, and he didn't know what her fate was at this point. It still haunted him, the fact that he couldn't touch anyone without hurting them. But maybe, just maybe, there was a chance he could use it for good in the long run, even if it hurt them at the time.

He'd have to talk to Sharra about it.

"It's a vicious cycle, but it's why oi tend tae cover up." Marosa's eyes slid over to regard her as he pulled his sleeves down absentmindedly. A sensible head. Yes, that certainly sounded like his Muirin.

For the first time since he'd come to Amityville, he had a little bit of hope. Maybe she wasn't dead. He certainly didn't know, and he'd been too buys moping to find out whether or not it was true.

"Oire ye sure, lassie?" He raised his arms up and stretched, wings spreading out and stretching with his limbs. "Be there anythin' else ye need that I moight repay in kind?"

"So it's like... a drug?" It certainly sounded so. It was a good thing that Marzena didn't like being all touchy-feely with others. Still, she made a mental note to herself: Never touch anyone who had wings like his. Marzena really really hoped that Muirin was alright, and wondered if it was a good idea to send a letter back to Radek, her brother, so that he could investigate.

"Well..." There was only one thing. Marzena had grudgingly come to terms with the fact that she couldn't catch the sea witch who had cursed her. Not alone, at the very least. But... "The only thing I can think of is too much a cost for merely listening to your troubles." Unless...

"If I ask my brother to try and find out what happened to Muirin, would you--" Marzena caught herself before she went any further. "No. It's alright. I'd probably ask him to do so anyway."

Marosa's head jerked up, and he stared at her for a long moment. "Aye. If ye do find anythin', please let me know. Oi would do anythin' tae know if she were safe." He clasped his hand to his chest, eyes imploring.

"On mae honor as a faerie." The fey bit his lower lip. wings folding against his back. "Oi care... deeply of her safety." If he could know or learn of her whereabouts, and know that she was safe, hadn't come to any harm...

He would give anything for that. Anything.
