Sunlight dappled through the boughs of the cypress grove, rippling over the filly's closed eyes and curled limbs even where she was nestled into the roots of the tallest tree. But it was not the light that drew her from the realms of sleep, causing her eyelids to flicker, branched tail to twitch. No, it was in the wind, whispering through the cypress leaves; in the ripples of the stagnant water in which the trees took root. It was in the earth below and the air above, through the tree that was their instrument, channeled into her very frame. It was in the song, her first companion, that which had woke her into existence and sang her to sleep each night, the song which was an old and familiar melody by now. Except today... today it was different. There was a deeper thrum to it, a new beat... slow... steady... nearing.Teal eyes flickered open, and she slowly raised her head. Something was coming. Someone.
She rose to meet him.
