The hyena snuffled through the brush, pink tail wagging behind him. He supposed he looked rather silly, crawling along the ground on his forelegs with his rump up in the air. But it was getting the job done. Sort of. Waridi couldn't seem to find the herb he was looking for. He knew it was around here somewhere, but the scent of the mint patches nearby was doing a good job of masking it. The knight stood up, huffing indignantly. He had only been a knight for a few weeks now, and was certainly still learning the ways of the healing. Most of his training as a Padawan had been geared towards being a Guardian. Waridi had only gotten the bare basics of healer training. The young hyena had been all set to become a Guardian, but a chance encounter with an injured lion while on his spirit quest had changed his mind. Now purple amethyst hung around his neck instead of red jasper, and Waridi couldn't be any prouder.

Master Kamau had given Lindiwe a job to do! It was the first time he had sent her to fetch something of importance for him and the juve was elated, feeling much more importance in the matter than was necessary. But it was these small victories and perks that allowed the cub to maintain a pleasant disposition in any suit. And after all the older leopard had done and was doing for her, why wouldn't she be happy to do something in return for him? The job for the Padawan today was fetching Comfrey while contemplating its uses, it's said that this allows the mind to find the answers the force provides. A spin off of an old philosophy which believed all answers were in ones mind, one only needs to ask the right question. The task was to find Comfrey, without any description and only it's benefits to lead her to the right place (and literally a point of the paw in the right direction). It had to be some sort of flower since it was going into tea.. The juve was deep in thought, trying to feel anything when she heard not too distant distorted breathing then she saw the big pink tail in the air above the bushes that looked like a large lion paw or fuzzy flag. It caused her to gasp, but when she saw the hyena stand up with his pink hair, she couldn't help but put her head down in respect and quietly giggle to herself. Ooops... "So sorry, sir."

Waridi laughed in return, pink eyes crinkling in the corners. He recognized this Padawan. Black hair, green markings...yes, she was one of the large litter the Jedi had taken in. Who had taken her on for training? One of the council members if her remembered correctly. Sayid? No, he hadn't taken on a student in quite some time. Kamau, maybe? It sounded right. This girl must have some potential to have been chosen by a council member. Waridi felt, if he was honest with himself, a little jealous of her. How much smoother would his Padawan training have been if he had been taken on by a council member? He probably would have had better coverage of all topics. But it was no use now. Sure, Waridi was a little bit behind where he should be as a Healer, but he at least thought he was making progress quickly. "Quite alright, little miss," The hyena said with a wink. He opened his mouth to speak again, but stopped as he noticed a leaf hanging off the end of his nose. He tried shaking it off, but it remained plastered to the end of his muzzle. The edge of the leaf tickled his nostril, and Waridi let out a big sneeze. The leaf fluttered to the ground, dislodged by the force of the sneeze. The healer gave the young cub a sheepish grin. "Such is the life of a healer. So then, what's Kamau's little protege doing out here in the dirt?" Probably on some mission for the older leopard. Maybe looking for the bead shiner? Waridi resisted the urge to laugh again. He remembered being sent out to look for the bead shiner by his own master. Silly little him had believed that beads needed regular shining, and had been eager to search for it. He searched for an entire afternoon before one of the other Padawans had let it slip that bead shiner didn't even exist at all.

Classic look of 'sneeze-build-up' riled a giggle, not as soft as she intended out of the little female's mouth. Oops! Instead of going with her instincts and shying away at her cubby mistake, Lindi stayed proud, to her this could very well have been one of the elders of the pride. Shying away could show a sign of weakness, the last thing she would want to convey. The recognition shook a humble peek of the corners of her lips and across the Padawan's face instead. "Bless you."
"Master sent me out here to help me learn a skill. He says a part of being a diplomat is going to other prides to complete missions, and on these missions one may need the knowledge of how to remedy a wound or illness unforeseen. Which may help in gaining the trust of the potential ally." The young one's tone was rather factual as she recited information from memory. Then it altered while she was adding her own conjecture," The herb he's sent me out here for he says can heal wounds, help bone knit and repair after a break, skin conditions, insect bites, nosebleeds, arthritis, sprains, torn ligaments and bruises.." By the end she had returned to her matter of fact tone, realizing she'd probably said way too much. "Comfrey." She concluded. "I have no idea what it looks like.. Sir."
Still young, Lindi hadn't exactly gotten down proper behavioral conventions for communication with the jedi knights. But in any situation, she knew the correct default was respect. Exuding respect she felt brought her closer to sincerity and therefor peace over her emotions.
Oh name!
"I'm Lindiwe'Oliva."

Conrad The Mighty I have a plan for where this is going, I promise. xD Waridi snorted playfully at her attempt for formality. He didn't think he was anywhere near what could be defined as a "sir." "Nice to meet you, ma'am." The hyena teased. "You can called me Waridi, not extra titles needed. I'll be calling you Lindi, cause Lindiwe'Olivia is just too much of a mouthful! Short and sweet always does the job." He smiled. So Kamau wanted her to get comfrey. A very useful herb, one that the Healers kept stocked up on regularly. It was also good in tea, something Council Member Kamau was fond of, and drank frequently. Which gave Waridi an idea. "So your master has sent you out to get some fresh comfrey for his tea. I mean, ahem, to learn how to identify it." Waridi said with wink. "And he hasn't told you what it looks like. Quite a conundrum indeed! I suppose I could just tell you where it is..." He bent down to whisper in her ear. "But I think your master would be a little angry that I spoiled his exercise." He straightened back up. "I think he'd be alright with me lending you a paw, however. So let's think this through together, shall we? What are some other ways we can identify things besides our sight?"

It wasn't very often that Lindi was teased, but her cubby instincts took over and spilled out up until the hyena straightened back up. She was giggling so hard her paws were shaking. How fortunate she was that she came in this particular direction for such breath of fresh air. With an older council member as a master, she was expected be very ceremonious, it was obviously becoming second nature to her. But the leopard hadn't mentioned it was for his tea! This convulsed more giggling almost down to her knees, there wasn't much more for her to do than that. "Right!" She started enthusiastically, and sat up at attention. Back to business. Wait. What was the question? "Um. Other ways to identify things... Our other senses? Smell, touch, taste and... Intuition?" This was how intuition was explained to Lindiwe, to a jedi it came as easily as telling the difference between the smell of flowers and manure.

Waridi couldn't wipe off the goofy grin on his face even if he tried. It was good to see Lindi laughing. He couldn't believe how serious she had been a few mere minutes ago. What was Councilman Kamau trying to do? Train her out of smiling? Sheesh! "Very good! Now, you'll be doing plenty of exercises to test your intuition during your training, so I think it's safe to put that one on the back burner. But let me know if you feel anything from it. The worst mistake a Jedi can make is not listening to their intuition." The hyena said somewhat seriously. He had ignored his intuition for all of his Padawanship. He pretended that he wanted to be a Guardian, ignoring the small voice in his head telling him he was destined for a different path. Waridi was glad he had wised up and listened in time. "So! That leaves us with smell, touch, and taste!" He gave her another smile. "Now, Lindi, have you ever been around Kamau while he was drinking his tea?" He hoped she had. It was certainly likely, considering how often Kamau usually drank the tea.

Noted. She nodded, taking the serious advice on the importance of adhering to intuition. A strong moment passed where Lindi just smiled as if he had delivered her another punch line to a joke with her lips curled at the ends and her eyes half lidded shut in amusement. But then she noticed that he was waiting for her reply, the young lioness was still socially awkward at times. Something she dearly hoped she would grow out of. "Oh, certainly si-- Waridi." Caught herself! "Seeveral times a week." Still she tried to continue the save and added a coy, sheepish smile.

"Oh good!" Waridi huffed a short laugh. Now they could really get crackin. "So then, let's see what you remember about the tea. Shut your eyes real tight and think about all the times he's had it." The hyena instructed, giving her a moment to do so. It would seem as if she was going to be actively using her intuition after all! Well, the Knight wasn't positive whether or not memory counted as intuition or not, but it was still using the mind, right? Waridi was going to count it. "Okay. When you're ready, start listing off characteristics the tea has. Don't be afraid to list the little stuff! Anything can help. Try and remember what colour it was, what it smelled like, what taste it had if he ever let you try it, things like that!" He supplied helpfully.

This wasn't too much unlike the exercises Master ran with her, but the purpose was different and Lindi found herself struggling a little. It wasn't a very familiar or particularly joyous feeling. Doing as instructed the Padawan closed her eyes real tight and tried to calm her mind. "It has a lavender tint, It's used to heal wounds, help bone knit and repair after a break, skin conditions, insect bites, nosebleeds, arthritis, sprains, torn ligaments and bruises." She recited again, then a picture began to come to her. "It's a flower." She concluded finally. Her eyes opened and she looked around side to side at the various herbs in the garden. There wasn't a word to speak to Wardi, she feared if she changed her train of thought she would loose the precious answer. It was only a blur. As she got closer to a structure with a veiny purple flower that hung down like a bell she looked at it for a moment with her head tilted. "Comfrey."

Waridi let out a joyous laugh. That was certainly impressive. "Great job there, Lindi! Didn't expect you to get it so fast." He trotted over to stand next to the Padawan, lightly sniffing the plant. "Hm, good patch right here." He noted. The hyena nudged Lindi lightly. "If you ever want to be healer, we'll be glad to have you. You're a natural." He teased, winking again. The hyena would definitely have to steal Lindi away from Kamau every once in a while for herb gathering. He supposed he could get his own Padawan, but Waridi just didn't think he was ready to teach another when he was still learning himself. Perhaps he would talk it over with their Master Healer, Safiya. Speaking of which..."Alright, grasp the plant near the base, right above the dirt, and pull gently until the whole plant comes out. You'll need two or three. Of course, the tea only really needs the flowers, so run them by to Master Safiya. She's usually in the healing dens. She'll pick off the flowers for you so we can keep the leaves." He told her.

"Perceived Tenacity the grand master saw in me." She spoke in joke riddle. Lindi's chest puffed out with a gleaming sense of accomplishment and did as the Healer had instructed, giggling softly. On the second pull she got a large clump of damn dirt in her paws and under her claws and she squealed like a piglet. "Ewwww!!!" Thankfully Master Kamau wasn't there to see this act of indignity. That was her cue to leave. "Yes, Master Safiya. Healing dens. Got it. Thank you so much Wardi, take care. You'd make a great teacher one day. May the force be with you, sir." Oops, now it was really time to go. She shook off her disappointment in herself as she turned to head to the healing dens and make it back to Master Kamau before the sun went down.

Waridi grinned as he watched the young cub pad away, comfrey in clutched tightly in her mouth. It had been nice to see Lindi loosen up a little and actually be a cub again, even if only for a short while. The hyena wondered if he would really make a good teacher one day. But that day was still far ahead. After all, how could he teach a Padawan what they needed to know if he still didn't know everything himself. The Jedi heaved a sigh. Perhaps he would consult with Safiya later on, after he found that persnickety plant he had come out here for. The hyena buried his nose into the earth once more, sniffing for the scent he needed.
