The stallion's sides heaved as he slowed to a trot through the grassy meadow. His sides were wet with sweat and water, from running as fast as his thick legs could carry him. Carlisle had seen a human, sending the fight-or-flight part of his mind into a panic, and he has chosen to flee. He didn't know how long he had been running for but with the sun starting to set, he felt safe to slow down though still remain on high alert. Carlisle's past still haunted him, he barely stopped moving forward in fear that it would catch up to him. It seemed the humans were still after him, even though at least a year had passed. Surely he could not be that much of a prized possession, for them to still be chasing him. He felt like damaged goods, untrained and wild in the eyes of a human. Perhaps now they had given up on getting him back, forcing him to work again. Perhaps now, they were chasing him only to kill him for his rogue behavior. As a few stars began twinkling in the fading red glow, Carlisle allowed himself to slow to a walk. He could not rest, not tonight. Humans were strange creatures with strange reasons. Whatever they were, he could not allow himself to be caught off guard.

She sighed, her wings giving a ruffle, a slight beat. She could feel the wind brushing across her feathers like a knife through the flesh. It was bitterly cold, and despite this, she still pressed onward. The sun was just beginning to set, and the night that Xolotlcoatl was known for pressed onward. The Dawn Star shone brightly above, and with it, the Angeni found herself warmed at her core. Though she wished above all things that she could just… go find her brothers and curl up beside them, to be able to relax and rest before pressing on with her quest to aid those around her, she knew she couldn’t. She had to continue onward, to find them herself and not ask for assistance from those that she aided. No. She had to ensure she did this the right way; to make both herself and her siblings proud.
Xolotlcoatl sighed, shaking some snow from her wings, before pressing onward. Her eyes flickered lightly as she tried to figure out where she was. She was still learning the areas of the Kawani lands; after all, she had only been here for a little over a month. She wasn’t certain what parts were what. She figured that if she went North, perhaps she would find her brother or someone that had seen him. She could remember back when they were all with the family how Cuauhcoatl mentioned North often. So, that was the way she headed. And as she walked, she glanced to the West, seeing the sun slowly sinking below the horizon.
Her ears shot up. The mare heard something. She tilted her head quietly to the side, letting red eyes glance from one tree to the next, until she spotted something moving. Her ears pinning, she moved forward cautiously, letting her body move with a natural grace that she had held for ages. She weaved around a few trees, before finding a meadow, and bolting across it, a stallion. Her eyes flickered, trying to figure out what was going on, working out the differences and the possibilities. He was either running to, or from something. By the way he moved, she assumed from. No one ran that quickly and sporadically when they were running to something. And he seemed to continue to glance backwards.
Now the question was from what? The Angeni tilted her head, looking toward the West, staring for several seconds, before she shook her head, she couldn’t tell. She glanced back at the stallion that was running, her wings shifting lightly against her back. If he was running from something, it could mean his path was going to be contorted and something could go horribly wrong. He could end up harming himself, others, or even possibly going mad from the fear. Frowning, she lifted her head some, letting out a loud whinny. That was what she was here for! To prevent people from feeling as if they had to run from things; to stop them from feeling trapped and confused. Surging forward, she ran, her wings folded tight against her body. She would catch up to that stallion, and she would aid him to the best of her ability!

Rest. His body needed it badly, but Carlisle knew that it would have to wait. The stallion pushed on across the meadow, glancing once more across the meadow.
This time his eye caught something. A very large something. A very large something coming very quickly. His heart began pumping rapidly and his hoofsteps began to pick up once more. Now what was chasing him? Another soquili turned by the humans? To many had he seen loose all will, turned into a four-legged puppet with empty eyes, merely awaiting death. Perhaps it was one of those meat-eating soquili. He had never seen one before, only heard of them in stories. Maybe being eaten wouldn't be so bad, the stallion started to ponder. Then he could stop running and rest. Carlisle inhaled deeply at the thought of peace and his run started to slow.
Then the whinny broke his concentration. It wasn't a threat but a warning. A warning that the moving figure wasn't there to do damage. This threw Carlisle off and he halted to a stop. He turned to face the moving figure, from the fading light he could see orange feathers, gold tipped horns and...wings? Perhaps, the details were fuzzy. Now that he had stopped and could hear the world around him, did he hear bells? Perhaps he was finally loosing it. The stallion could believe it, after all the things he'd been through it was nothing short of a miracle he was still sane. The incoming and continous jingle was almost soothing, he continued to stare at the oncoming figure - now waiting for it to reach him.

Xolotlcoatl blinked, her eyes adjusting to the speed that she ran rather quickly. She dodged around a few trees, allowing her wings to fold tightly against her sides, and along her back. It was harder to run quickly, as she used to when she was human, with the big bulky wings of the species known as Angeni. She paused for just a moment, allowing her breath to catch up to her, eyes staying locked on the stallion. He had run so far already, and she was certain he was getting farther. Perhaps he was panicking? Shaking her head, causing the mane to shift along her shoulders and neck, she reared up for a few seconds, before surging forward again, feeling as though her hooves barely touched the ground below her.
She ran for a few more moments, before seeing him stop. He was still. She smiled at the thought. He was waiting. She could tell. Which meant that she could catch up to him, and be able to see just what it was he was running from. When she got a little closer, she slowed down to a gentle trot, the bells connected to her mask jingling gently. Her body easily maneuvered now that she had slowed, and she was able to move gracefully around the objects surrounding her. Flicking her tail, Xolotlcoatl paused for a moment, before allowing herself to slowly approach the stallion, ears perked up in interest as she moved.
For a moment, the mare wasn’t sure what to say. What did one say to someone who was running so quickly through a dense forest? Frowning in thought, she shook her head, once more causing her mess of teal hair to shift along her body. A half smile moved onto her features then, as she lightly inclined her head, the bells once more jingling in response to the movement. ”Hello there.” She smiled as she greeted him, though suddenly realized just how cliché it was to say such things. Wasn’t that how everyone greeted people they were meeting in passing. She shook her head slightly, letting out a half sigh, before a smile ventured onto her features, and she tilted her head curiously, eyes locking on the stallion.
He was interesting looking, by far. His colors were soft blue grays, and Xolotlcoatl had to admit that it was an extremely lovely and soothing color to her eyes. His mane and tail were shaggy, and had random braids, which the mare found interesting in the least. Who put the braids there? She would wander and question that later. His horns were of interest, not like any the mare had ever seen. And the saddle which adorned his back was of great interest to the mare. Finally the bone mask, which really drew Xolotlcoatl’s attention. She always enjoyed hearing stories, and it was obvious this stallion had one to tell.

4 wings. This was the first trait Carlisle noticed on the mare who stood in front of him. His mind raced to find a connection - where had he seen that before? No not seen, heard. A story from his mother before her murder. Soquili with 4 wings were known as Angeni, angels from the Heaven. This information startled the stallion. Perhaps he was already dead, having died some time ago and just continued running. Perhaps this angeni had been chasing him the whole time, telling him to stop and rest. Oh how badly he wanted rest..but his joints ached from all his running.
There was no pain in death, was there? As the thought crossed his mind, Carlisle's ears flickered downward in a heart-wrenching sorrow before he shook it off. He hoped not, his mother deserved no pain in her afterlife. She had suffered enough when she was living.
Through his thick bang and skull mask, he studied the mare. Deep red eyes, feathers backed by a long, cascading blue mane. Her tail was the same, more feathers mixed with mane. This he had never seen feathers grow from the body in other places other the the wings and it intrigued him. Carlisle was also curious about her gold mask and there hanging from the mask were the jingling bells he had heard just moments before. They were quite soothing.
Again, the stallion shook his head. He had been staring far to long and muttered a quiet apology to the angel mare. He didn't know how to act, what to say. All his life he had run, why did he feel so comfortable with her? What if it was a human trick? Carlisle's body tensed again and he huffed softly, heart starting to beat faster in his chest. He had let his guard down, let rest wash over him for just a brief moment and those humans had almost got him! Carlisle tried to stay focused, ears now alert and checking for human noises, and managed to finally get out a quiet greeting, "...good evening, miss" The stallion bowed his head to her. Just because he was on the run didn't mean he could have bad manners. His mother taught him better.

The Angeni waited patiently. Patience was something she excelled at. She, after all, had to be if she expected anything to come to her as planned. Xolotlcoatl knew that if she wasn’t careful, she could scare everyone away. She was generally a very gentle mare, but if things went south, she could end up very aggressive and angry. The horns on her headdress were rather good at defending herself, if she needed it. That, and the large wings, her sharp hooves, the fact that she was fast and able to fight easily. She had learned while growing up, and though she had to adjust to this different body, she was still good at what she did, and she refused to allow anyone to stop her.
But, she had to pull her thoughts away. She couldn’t just sit and wallow in her feelings and thoughts. She had to adjust to the fact that she couldn’t just think about herself right now. The bells shifted as she shook out her long mane, trying to get it to settle from the run. It fell in small waves along her shoulders and back, and hung down about her legs. Her wings folded easily against her back as she observed the stallion once more. He seemed somewhat distraught, and though she wanted to question it, she didn’t want to press him to talk about it.
She heard the apology, and smiled lightly at him, encouraging. An apology. That was a forward movement. She tilted her head to the side, before shaking her head lightly to dismiss it. There was no real reason to apologize. After all, he didn’t do anything wrong. He was innocent in the fact that, like many others, he had stopped to observe her; to take everything in about her. Many people had stopped to stare at her so that they could see what she was, who she was. If she was dangerous, everything. Everyone wanted to know if she was dangerous. It was easy to understand. Even an Angeni could pose a threat now-a-days. And the mare wasn’t pleased by this. Shaking out her mane again, she sent a smile at him once more.
”Hello to you as well, dear.” She said, her voice gentle and soft. She tilted her head lightly to the side, before inclining her head some with an almost gentle bow. She lifted her head again, ears swiveling to face him with ease. ”What is it you are running from? I do not understand what would put you in fear…” She said, a frown moving onto her features as she shifted to look over her shoulders again. She hadn’t seen anything recently. She hadn’t heard any danger, or felt it for that matter. Generally she had a feeling when something was going wrong, but right now… She frowned some, before turning her attention back on the stallion, staring with curious, and trusting eyes.
